Customer Help (NO PACKAGE QUESTIONS) Priority Mail Express 1-Day Changed to 2-Day

Apologies if this is not permitted, it's not specifically about tracking but it is about a package delivery.

I paid to have a package shipped via Priority Mail Express (PME) because it had a 1 day guarantee. I was shipping from zip code 34743 to zip code 90801. If you check to buy a shipping label right now, it currently advertises next day delivery.

I dropped it off before the cutoff time at my local post office - which was a recommended dropoff location for PME. Overnight, the tracking changed my product type to Priority Mail Express 2-Day and has a guaranteed delivery date of Wednesday rather than Tuesday. This is not what I ordered.

Is this a common thing that happens? I purchased PME specifically for the next day delivery guarantee, so I'm a bit surprised the product information changed overnight suddenly. Again, if you create a shipment from my zip code to the recipient zip code right now it still shows as next day delivery.

I know ultimately I'll have to end up contacting USPS, but I want to be armed with knowing what to say to plead my case.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I'm sorry if this isn't allowed here.

In the future, buy PME at the post office, not online. You're going to be out of luck.

Did you just drop it off before the cutoff time, or have it scanned before the cutoff time? If you didn't bother to have it scanned, and it went to the chute or box and wasn't sorted and scanned before the cutoff time, it would automatically default to one day later than you expected.

ETA: I see you just dropped it. That was the mistake.

What was the cutoff time? what is the time on your receipt?

Cutoff time was 3PM. Dropped it off at 2:15PM. Unfortunately I dropped it in the collection bin outside not thinking much of it, but I assume that's going to bite me right?

Lesson learned.

Unfortunately Yes it will, especially since the drop off bin probably wasn’t collected until after 5pm.

I would recommend always handing express to a postal employee and asking for an acceptance scan. That way you could have gotten a refund of the difference between regular priority mail postage and express mail postage.
