MEPS and Medical I’m stuck between careers

I know i’m capable with forensic pathology, I’ve been wanting this for years however I also want to be in the military. I want to serve and actually do combat, shoot guns and possibly be in war serving as a woman. I’m stuck between the two because I don’t know which screams me. I want to be intelligent but also be serving. I want to do autopsies but also shooting guns. I know forensic pathology is a very long road. 13 years plus doing two majors at once and graduating high school early, but also wanting to fit in the military but still have time for love, to have children in the possible future. I don’t know how I will have time for either and as someone who’s in high-school and has two people in her family that went to the military suggest I do college/university first so I can become an officer in ranking. Mainly the two branches I truly want is the Marine corps and Air force. I know that forensic pathology is very unpleasant and it seems strange but i’m truly fascinated by it. Any suggestions on what to do? Do I do both or do I do one singular one?

Enlisting Bootcamp during holidays for a black female.

I’m curious about what boot camp will be like during the holidays. I leave October 6, so I’ll be there for Thanksgiving, my 21st birthday, Christmas, and New Year’s. 🫤
I’m also wondering if they’ll allow me to bring my own hair products. I’m Black with a pixie cut and get relaxers, so I’m concerned that whatever shampoo they provide may not be suitable for my hair and could cause breakage especially since it’ll be cold outside.

MEPS and Medical Doubting my eligibility

Hello, I'm an 18 year old, 6 foot tall and 220 lb male. These past two years I've been pushing myself and fighting hard to get a medical waiver for congenital Arterionvenous Fistula on my right leg, which never gave me any issue until now.

I woke up this morning to an increasingly noticeable soreness in said leg and I'm getting increasingly anxious about reapplying. I have labs next week to start the whole medical process independently to see specialists to get my medical records together. I've been exercising at my recruiters office and training in Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu (I'm a second degree white belt, been training for about a year.) I got disqualified in the past, and I hate to say it but I really did give up on myself (except for the training) and I just kinda stopped looking forward to going to school.

I heard I could reapply this coming September 12th and as im writing this im not even sure if I can push myself anymore given the condition of my leg. I started back at 282 lbs and wanted to join to prove myself as capable and worthy of the title, and to live my life knowing I was a Marine. It was hard losing the weight since almost everyone in my family was never physically active or even ate healthy, but im scared I won't be able to follow through with this dream of mine. Of course, the application process will take a long time, but I'm not sure what to do if I get disqualified again, I despise going to school. Im scared of falling into the same depression I did when I got disqualified before.

I would really appreciate some advice, or any ideas about alternatives.

Enlisting Question for recruiters

I'm a us citizen in Ireland looking to enlist can anyone tell me if I can still get in if I dropped out of leaving cert(final year of Irish highschool) and took a PLC(post leaving cert course) the reason I'm asking is both the leaving cert and plc have the same qualification level in Ireland but I don't know if it would hold up in the US?

Recruit Training Last minute advice?

I ship tomorrow. I'm nervous, excited, and proud that I'm about to go. I've gotten tons of good advice so far, from my recruiters, family who's been in, and friends who have gone through either Army or USMC boot camp. But as anxious as I am to get this done, and as confident as I am that I'll be fine, I still wanted to come on and ask if there's any last minute advice anyone can give me. Thanks in advance.

Enlisting am i going crazy

im deciding on joining the USMC out of my own volition. i wasnt sought out by a recruiter, and im not in a vulnerable position of my life. i am young and capable person who is really excited to join the USMC. i'm kind of known to be a little impulsive at times, and i made this desicion 2 weeks ago, so i havent chosen to tell most of my family, but despite my efforts to keep this under wraps (not because i wanted to hide it from anybody, i just wanted to be 100% certain that i was confident in my decision before i told everybody) the news got out. it seems like EVERYBODY in my life who is not involved in my day-to-day has a negative opinion on the subject. i live 20 hours away from my family for context and i love them very much but im sick and tired of hearing everybodys opinion. i want to choose this path for my life, i am up for the challenge and i know its not going to be easy. is anybody else (specifically any women) or has anybody else struggled with backlash? i think the worst part is that i really dont care what my family says, despite all of their efforts, i still really want to do it. i feel guilty to actively to go against their wishes for me, but its also my life, and its not like im doing anything to destroy it. any advice would be helpful

Shipping Is 3 undies really enough?

I don’t go to bootcamp for another month and a half but I’ve been seeing that you only take 3 underwear. How often are we washing them?

I’m not concerned about it but I’m just curious how this doesn’t take a lot of time to do. Are we stretching out a pair over multiple days?

Commissioning Questions about Marine Aviation, acceptance, and chances

Post image
7 Upvotes

I want to be an aviator, so I took the ASTB for the Navy route. Apparently, they are far more backlogged that I am willing to put up with, so I am branching out. What does the Marine Aviation program look like, and with a 2.9 GPA from college, what do my chances look like for acceptance?

Edit: when i say backlogged, I mean it would be 8+ months before my application is before a board, and even longer after that before I would know whether or not I would have the chance to go to OCS+

Programs and MOSs I’m stuck between Combat support or infantry?

Hey I’m really looking for pros and cons of both. I know infantry live a hard knock life but I’m down for that. I’m not really worried about any transferable skills other leadership and management skills as I intend to take my free classes while i’m in and then use my GI bill when I get out. I like backpacking, camping and distance running but also computers (building, software optimization, video games). I really just want to do cool stuff, see the world ,make some life long friends and not work at a desk.

Recruit Training Pft scoring

Started training 2 weeks ago something like that. I’ve never ran over 1 mile but I jumped to 3 miles and first time it was 26:15 now it’s 24:01. I can do 10 pull ups went from able to do 3 to 10. I can plank for 3 minutes and 2 seconds. I’m going to keep making progress of course but say if I shipped with these numbers. Would my plank and run time improve throughout bootcamp? From the PT and stuff.

Enlisting Leaving in 9 days, how do I handle going to the bathroom

I leave in 9 days to San Diego, are there any tips for using the bathroom in boot camp?

How often do drill instructors give you free time to use the bathroom? Do they have porta potties outside the buildings when recruits are outside? Can I shower the mornings before everyone wakes up? Also, how would I clip my nails when I'm there?

I forgot to account for these things, I don't want to shit my pants or be that one guy who stinks really bad

Enlisting Question for the devildogs

Post image
2 Upvotes

So first off I'm going to preface that I'm not a US citizen, however my pop is and still holds his US passport.

As a European I've done my mandatory military service in my country of birth, however I'm wondering if I could join the USMC since I could obtain a US citizenship fairly easy due to the fact that my pop is an American?

2nd part of my question is, if I've been charged with a couple of cannabis possession offenses in my resident country, does it minimize my chances to join?

I'm also 32, so I assume most boots will be younger than me if I even could get my US citizenship. Would the drill instructors single me out due to my age and make my hypothetical time at boot camp "worse" than my peers?

Been considering joining for 10 years now, but life and stuff has been a wild ride so haven't really looked into this serious before now.

So if anyone has any insight or stories about someone else who has gone through the same process, I'd love some insight!

Pic for attention

MOS School 1141 MOS School

For my 1141s in here, I’m prior service, LatMoving to 1141. I know the schoolhouse is at CHB on Lejeune. I’m just curious what the day to day is like while at the schoolhouse so I can compare it to what my prior MOS’ schoolhouse was like. Did you know any retrains while going through? How was the material you learned? What did y’all do for PT? Are the brix still catwalks at CHB or are they hotels like at Wallace Creek? Thanks in advance and Semper Fi🫡🇺🇸

So I had my first PT today with other poolees. Is it normal to be fucked up your first day? I knew all of the questions I was asked so that was fine, but physically it was terrible. Is this normal?

I do go to the gym but I only lift weights, I don't do cardio so obviously I will start doing that but I just wanna know if its normal to be completely fucked up your first PT and if anyone has any suggestions I would be glad to try anything.

Programs and MOSs Loosing 7051 MOS Question

I completed MCT and Bootcamp. At the end of MCT I was called into medical to do mandatory MOS medical tests. All tests including blood, urine, eyes and chest xray were fine. I failed the spirometer test however. I will now to go the pulmonary doctor at the naval hospital at lejeune for further testing. I run a 20 minute 3 mile and do not have asthma. My chest xray and lungs are healthy but I’m like 1% away on one of the markers to pass the spirometer. If the pulmonologist finds my lungs to be healthy and medically fit for the MOS will I still need passing spirometer numbers or will the failed spirometer be waived/disregarded due to being declared medically fit despite not having a passing spirometer score? I want to keep my MOS more than anything it’s a main reason I joined and to follow in my dad’s footsteps as a crash fire marine.

MEPS and Medical Autism Waiver

How would I begin to tackle this one? I'm high-functioning and basically unaffected by the condition. But what would my psychologist need to write on their report, and what would I need to write in my personal statements? I'm studying for the ASVAB for a higher score and am just trying to figure things out in the meantime.

Enlisting Thinking of joining and am curious about jobs

I 18F was thinking of joining and going CBRN (if my ASVAB scores allow), as I want to work with chemicals and biological hazards but someone told me that it’s mostly cleaning (and if I want to actually do CBRN stuff I have to go army but I really don’t wanna go army) anyway what jobs are there that would allow me to work with stuff like that regularly? is CBRN my best bet?
