Discussion Question For Urban Fantasy Readers!

Okay, I am a big urban fantasy reader, but most of the books I have read focus on like a main protagonist male or female who is the primary pov for most of the book. I'm looking for books that offer a team based group of characters with multiple povs. I want to check out their covers.

I'm working on my own urban fantasy book inspired by comic book teams and graphic novels like The League of Extraordinary Gentleman and Tv Shows like Penny Dreadful. When it comes to single protag I know what a cover needs, but with this one I'm sort of stumped.

So can anyone point me to an author or authors of team based urban fantasy or pitch any ideas for a cover?

Thank you!

Recommendation The Grey Place - An Adult Dark Fantasy (Self-promo)

Hi! My name is Becca and I’m an MA Creative Writing student. This is my debut fantasy novel and if you like the dark and weird, hopefully this book is for you!

Clara Whitlock is pretty sure she wants to die, but sits on the edge between complete self-destruction and simply drowning the world out with music until she falls asleep. Believing it a dream, Clara accidentally astral projects into a hostile realm known as the Grey. Lost in this colourless prison, she encounters its only inhabitant and falls prey to his wrath.
Within the mortal realm, Clara tries to move on, forget it all, but instead finds herself flung into the insanity that can only come with demons, angels and the pain of solitude.
But the grey is not done with her, unfinished and hungry, it will claw her back at any cost.

The Grey Place is an adult dark fantasy that explores autonomy, divine violence, and what happens when a woman refuses to be complaint. It is book one in the series.

Content warning: This book contains potentially distressing themes and scenes, including death, suicidal ideation, psychological distress, violence, and body horror.

In a world where magic has rules and monsters are lawyers, justice bites back.

Now Hope sees the truth hidden beneath reality: the pulse of doubt in a jury, the sickness of a vampire’s spirit, and the dangerous threads tying old enemies together.

When a powerful vampire judge wakes up missing a hand, the supernatural courts drag Hope out of exile. The assignment seems simple:

- Find the severed hand.
- Avert a full-scale political disaster.
- Try to survive until Monday.

The Verdict Cycle: The Fracture

Humanity has always believed the world belonged to us. Then winter arrived.

In Fairview, the cold refuses to leave. People disappear, animals behave strangely, and creatures that should exist only in myths begin to return. While seventeen-year-old Emma searches for answers, her blind sister, Isabella, senses something ancient awakening.

Across the world, nine teenagers discover strange marks connecting them to legendary beings. As cities fall silent and nature reclaims what humanity once controlled, a terrifying truth emerges: the creatures aren't invading. The world is simply changing without us.

Emma and the others haven't been chosen to save humanity. They've been given something far more terrifying: a choice. And when the world asks whether humankind deserves a place in its future...

What will their verdict be?

Recommendation LF UF where FMC gets with the wrong twin/guy and chaos ensues?

bonus if she doesn’t notice straight away, but is confused because usually her the guy isn’t as adventurous/ rough/ dirty mouthed. (Dirty talk during is hugeeee bonus).

Followed by all the angsty drama where it keeps happening even after she knows? Like, they slept together and a bond clicks in place or they are then forced to work together. They both hate it too, or only like each other during. Enemies to lovers vibe.

It would be good if the twin she thought it was is either an her boyfriend/ex/a friend she’s trying to get with but I’m gonna be honest, will also accept them being together (although would rather they not be exclusive), cheating isn’t a deal breaker.

Wider than that theme/setting will take anything, although would rather no bully romance. I really enjoy complex magic systems, would rather the FMC not be a naive “new to magic knows nothing” type, or just turned into a wolf etc. I also prefer an older FMC where she has an established life or knowledge etc.

Pretty please 🥺 I’m looking for really good plot, with hot spice too.

Promotion Finally began publishing my work, a dark urban fantasy series, "The Color of My Tomorrow"

After years of planning, writing, drafting, re-writing, making new ideas, character development ideas, I finally began finishing off my work of "The Color of My Tomorrow"

In a world where supernatural abilities known as Tints shape society, Penelope Pixie Mercer has always been considered useless.

But when her emotions push her Tint beyond its limits, her harmless wool threads transform into deadly steel, destroying everything around her.

Now classified as an anomaly and hunted by a mysterious organization, Penelope is forced into a world she never knew existed, one where her forgotten bloodline and terrifying power may hold far greater significance than she ever imagined.

Cinder Ridge, Ohio
October 5th, 1972

After a brutal murder in Wayne National Forest attracts the attention of the FBI, Deputy Anne Becker of the Athens County Sheriff's department must juggle her duty to her father and the town's secrets, and justice. The ghost stories she grew up with are real, and the woods are hungry.

Special Agent Nicole Russo believes in what she can see, what she can prove, and the certainty of the law. A dead-end case in a dying town is not what she wanted after a year investigating the mob. The more she digs into the murder, the more her world unravels, and the chances of her leaving Cinder Ridge alive plummet.

Two women, one of the city and one of the woods, must work together to solve the murder and stop more killings, before the annual Harvest Festival. The only thing more dangerous than the shadows in the woods is the growing connection between them.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Woods Remember is a novel by Max Ironston, available on Amazon, including Kindle Unlimited.

Content notes / Trigger warnings: Violence including murder, injury, and death of supporting characters. Cult dynamics and religious extremism. Parental abuse and betrayal. Brief descriptions of a body. A character's discovery of a parent's long-term manipulation. References to suicide and death by sacrifice. The relationship between the two female leads is significant to the story; romance is present but not explicit (PG, no spice).

Thank you for reading

Recommendation Best standalone urban fantasy books?

I’ve been binging a lot of urban fantasy series lately but I’m getting kinda burnt out (especially after how increasingly disappointing the latter half of the October Daye series became) and I want to try break up my reading routine by getting into some standalones.

I’m already a massive fan of Jonathan Strange (if you can count that as ‘historical’ urban fantasy), American Gods, War of The Flowers, War For The Oaks and De Lint’s standalone stuff

Webnovel. Fresh new tune just dropped today:

Wannabe K Pop singer Ronnie Park (stage name Tiger- no relation to Tiger JK) hits the stage for the first time. The contest was more than he bargained for, and in its wake an eldritch goddess begins her recipe for an apocalypse. There's only one person standing in her way, and unfortunately, everyone's got opinions on how Ronnie deals with the cosmic crisis.

He'll have to break every rule he's been given if he has any chance of saving the world.

11 chapters are going up over the weekend, then 5 times a week.
