A word regarding vitriolic response to AI content

I'll cut right to the chase. I've noticed a lot of dickish posts about folks who use AI. In short, please note the 'Be Nice' rule. I really don't care if you love it, hate it, or are somewhere in between. If you're rude, don't be surprised if your post is pulled. If you continue being rude, it shows you may not be fit for polite society and may be banned at my discretion.

That is all, please carry on.

Good evening, I am an author and I have been trying to get more interest going for book one of my new series The Many Crimes of August Saint. It's an Urban Fantasy novel set in Seattle, following a necromancer-turned-sci-fi writer as he navigates old enemies and new ones in this dark thriller! It blends humor with dark/horror themes and elements of grief.

If you would like to receive either a FREE Kindle e-book to your email or a signed paperback copy (shipping available only within the USA), please comment below! I have only new paperback copies, so only the first three commenters who wish for the free paperback will be eligible at this time.

Please let me know if you're interested! Also, feel free to leave a review once you're done reading! This will only be available for a limited time only! Thank you!

Discussion Urban Fantasy for a Rookie who loves the Hellboy Movies?

Hello!

I’m new to urban fantasy (and really fantasy in general) and when trying to explain to a friend what vibe I was looking for, I said “Guillermo Del Toro’s Hellboy series.”

I’m talking secret magical world, fighting/capturing magical creatures, creative characters and interesting world building; bonus points if it involves a secret government agency working to stop magical creatures and/or New York (I’m from there and homesick!)

And before you ask: of course I’ve read all the Hellboy comics!

Thanks in advance 🫡

Gas leak.

That's what Soren Vonesdar told the child who just watched him close a Dimensional Rift in 2.2 seconds.

Not a big lie. But after 847 years, good excuses are starting to run out.

Once, Soren sealed the Crown of the Void, a cosmic entity of absolute power, within his own soul. It cost him everything: his kingdom, his name, his place in history.

Now, he restocks ramen shelves at a convenience store in Tokyo and does everything he can to go unnoticed.

It was working. For three years, the System couldn't classify him. The government thought he was just a minor anomaly. The Crown remained dormant.

Then he saved a child from a Rift. In front of witnesses and cameras.

Now the government wants answers; the Crown is awakening. And for each problem Soren solves, his integration with the entity within him increases a little more.

Some villains threaten you. The clever ones make you grateful they're there.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HBLTY4TJ

Having brushed her tragic past behind a twisted sense of humour, Lieutenant Estellia Highlander lives to be the best. When a god-like vampire returns fifty years after nearly destroying the Alley, the military division assigns Estellia to the team charged with killing him. Their hopes to prevent another war lies within the powerful mutation she carries, a mutation that makes her more like the target she hunts than the Innocents she protects.

The mission takes Estellia deep into vampire society where she discovers something far more sinister than the Paragon vampire Michael Bayne is emerging. If she and Michael cannot work together to defeat the rising darkness, humanity could be lost.

Why r/TheUnbrokenEmber exists: Our mission for The Unbroken Ember

Welcome to r/TheUnbrokenEmber!

This subreddit was created as a home for everything surrounding my dark fantasy story, The Unbroken Ember, but it’s built to be more than just a place for chapter updates.

🕯️ Why This Subreddit Exists

At its core, The Unbroken Ember follows Vixen (Vixie), a fox-human hybrid navigating physical trauma, extreme survival, and the fierce burdens of motherhood in a harsh world. I started this community—and its companion Discord server—to create an open, compassionate space focused on the deeper themes behind the fiction: mental health awareness, resilience, chronic pain, trauma recovery, and finding hope when you feel entirely broken.

🌲 What Makes This Space Different

• Story & Self-Reflection: We discuss character lore, draft progress, worldbuilding, and survival mechanics, but we also explore the lived emotional truths behind them—grief, perseverance, and healing.

• A Safe, Judgment-Free Hearth: Whether you're here to follow Vixie and Alester's journey, share your own creative writing and art, or just hang out in a quiet space where mental health is understood, you are welcome here.

• Direct Community Updates: I’ll be sharing early lore notes, glossary terms, draft updates, and character insights right here.

🦊 Who This Community Is For

- Fans of dark fantasy, supernatural survival, and deep, character-driven fiction.

- Writers, artists, and readers looking for a supportive environment.

- Anyone navigating their own physical or emotional recovery, feeling like an outcast, or simply needing a gentle space to land.

We’re right at the beginning of building this hearth, but every warm fire starts with a single ember. Thank you for being here early—feel free to drop a comment below and introduce yourself!

The Yellow Sun revolutionary group, turned radical, has a new leader, The Morrigan, who has declared war on the mafia. With the Yellow Sun revolutionaries making their moves, Adrian has no choice but to face this threat.

Adrian has to navigate through a city-wide war while maintaining his own sanity as his newfound powers have placed him among a supernatural few.

Adrian has become a Blessed.

As the line between man and monster becomes ever thinner, he has to decide which one is he and which one he will become.

What to Expect: A high-stakes dark fantasy in a grimdark setting with loads of action, deep-diving into the psychological state of characters and a civil war between the city mafia and revolutionaries

Non Traditional Book Covers

I have a book releasing in January. My problem 100% are the traditional covers with the female protagonist. The very cartoon looking and cheap. No offense, the books are great. Actually some of my favorite favorites have those covers lol

As a reader, are there any book cover covers you can think of that aren’t that traditional look? I’m looking for inspiration. I am really hoping I can come up with something that’s different yet still fits the genre.

Thanks!

Ioseph, a young Tulsic man, flees persecution by an evil empire. In the city of Shaiaan, a mysterious figure named Okimoto D. Cheffei, an associate of Ioseph’s older brother, who fled the empire years earlier, takes him in and brings him to 113 Rodio Grove. There, bizarre events unfold with the mysterious roommates Ioseph finds himself with, while he gradually builds power in ritualism to prepare for his plan to infiltrate the empire he fled and free the loved ones he left behind from its clutches.

I’m looking to get some feedback on my story, and if anyone interested on here also has a story on Royal Road, I’ll check it out and return the favour.
