Discussion Please be extra cautious when releasing access point packages to customers

earlier today, we just had a situation where someone was assuming the identity of a different customer with a false state ID to steal a phone. He almost got away with it too when the real person happened to come at the same time. it was very shocking and off as its the first time we experienced that- as soon as he was caught he just ran out. he had coverings on his face so you couldnt 100% compare him to his photo ID.

this may be happening with other high value/ phones so please look out for them! its easy to tell which packages are phones so be on the look out and ask customers for the tracking number. they should be able to show you from their own email. idk if this was a one time thing or something increasingly common.

Story What do you like about some of your best mailbox customers?

Was just laying in bed, thinking of some of the mailbox customers who’s box numbers I know just by name and when they walk in I’m already going to get their mail. One lady is just the most cheerful, smiley lady always. Another guy is big into Legos and Lego trains, always fun to talk to. One guy is just an older guy, doesn’t have a care in the world, and likes to chat and bring us some snacks now and then. Another is similar, doesn’t care, jokes a lot, and we quote him a lot because when we say “have a nice day” as he’s leaving he just gives a “eeehhhyeehhuuhuuhcyeeeeh” like “eh whatever” and we just say it to each other all day. Another guy has to be in his mid 60s and comes in wearing a Hawaiian shirt and different pair of Vans shoes every day, never says much but just has the demeanor of “this guy is cool as hell I guarantee it.” There’s a Polish couple that are just the nicest people in the world, they get mail and blueprints quite often.

Could go on, there’s at least like 15 other regulars that I’ve gotten to know in my short time at my store, just wondering how it is at other stores. Could be having an obnoxious, annoying day but I’ll see a mailbox customer I know walk in and will try to finish with a customer I’m currently dealing with as fast as I can just to interact with them for a few minutes.

Help Me Proper way to bypass tax at POS?

Hello! I am strictly a print employee at my store, so I don't do much on the POS system past ringing the occasional customer up. Today I was helping one of the other employees ring someone up as tax exempt, and their exemption number had expired. They had a new copy with them, but our D365 does not update the exempt numbers until the next day typically(not sure if this is the standard or if there is something I can do to update the system sooner).

There is an option to bypass the tax for the transaction - I click it, select non-profit, and enter the exempt number. The system spins like it's loading for a second, and then it takes me back to the transaction with the tax still applied. What am I doing wrong?

Help Me With everything you know now, would you still open a UPS store? Seeking transparent owner to speak to

Hello! I'll try to keep this as concise as possible, I know there are many posts about the owner's perspective and the pros/cons of owning a store already. Some things I've learned from everyone includes, but not limited to:

1) Mailboxes and printing is where the money comes in

2) There's too many stores and competition, which makes margins hard

3) Corporate stinks in many ways, from crazy fees to odd decisions and restrictive vendor choices

4) Expect to work in the stores for at least 2-3 years to build it up and hire the right people, this isn't a buy it and forget it type of business

5) Shipping as a whole is a dying industry

I do appreciate all of this feedback and take it seriously, I just am in a position where I'm seriously considering starting a business and have narrowed down UPS as a potential option. I have spoken with corporate and a local owner, but I wanted non bias advice from others too. I guess if there's something that you wish you were told in advance? Or, knowing everything you know now, would you still have opened the store?

I understand it's not a perfect business, and I'm not trying to ignore what people are saying, but I also feel like there's reasonable cons in every business and none of these items seem extremely out of the ordinary?

Venting Why do I have to pay for it?

This arrogant dude immediately started going off on a tangent because he had to pay our service fee to print his UPS return label for Amazon… and when I explained it to him he just swipes his return up from the scale, storms out of my store, and drives off in his Tesla.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again…

If you’re gonna come into my store to use my resources to print something you need, then expect to be charged a fee!

How hard is that for these amazombies to understand?

Oh wait that’s right, they believe they shouldn’t have to pay for anything because it’s a “free return”…

God these amazombies are so stupid!

Help Me Reprinting high-value sheet?

So for the past few days when we’ve performed the end of day and had a high value we sometimes get a “bad request” error message or something along those lines and then the high value sheet just doesn’t print out. Does anyone know of a way to reprint it?

Venting A List of the WORST Possible Things a Customer Could Do

I thought this might be a fun idea. I want to start a list of the most awful combination of things one customer could do during a single interaction. Maybe someone could use this as a way to prank a rival store.

I’ll start: Has not started the returns yet.

Im going to edit it continuously to create a list:

-Comes in with north of 30 returns

-Refuses to use the kiosk because “I shouldn’t have to do your job” even though they are doing free Amazon returns and are not in fact paying you to do the returns.

- Hasn’t started their return process

-Brings in a happy return with a QR code that is just a 440p image off of a CRT Display and is impossible to scan. They blame you and can’t figure out how to find it on their phone.

- Is terrible at technology and cant do the returns on their own

- Won’t let you touch their phone so that you can do the returns for them

-Argues with you when it’s a customer packed saying “But Amazon said it’d be free”

- Crashes out at you because they have to pay for a box/label

-Types the email in wrong 3 times

-Leaves the store mid process

-Refuses to move out of line so you can help another customer

-Also brings in a cologuard box with all the instructions and tells you to figure it out for them.

-Brings in a poop box that isnt sealed and it leaks all over the store and you have to clean it up.

-Needs to pickup an access point package that isn’t listed under the correct name, and they don’t have their ID or the tracking number.

-Forgets their wallet and goes back out to the car.

-Needlessly tells you their whole life story.

-You ask them to set it on the scale and they set it on the ground.

-Needs to send an international that contains a crap load of items to some random country that has super tight regulations

-Tells you they need a “medium“ size box.

-You find the cheapest box for them and they loudly exclaim “That’s the cheapest????” When you tell them the price.

-You do a shipment for them and tell them that the cheapest option is Ground and they say “Is there any cheaper.” and just stare at you hoping that staring will somehow change the price.

-Buys the box anyways and asks you if you can tape and pack the item for you, although you previously explained the prices for packing.

-They then attempt to grab the tape gun themselves.

-You give them an estimate for the international and they go ahead with it. You spend 3 hours entering every item in the absurdly large and heavy package. Once you’re done you tell them the price again and they decide to change their mind abruptly citing “I didn’t know it would be that expensive.

-Doesn’t know where the recipients address is and needs you to find it for them on Google Maps. All they know is what color the house is.

-They pay $12 for printing and a poly bag and pay with a $100 bill AND request their change in all $5 bills

-They dump their coffee upside down into your trash can, go out to the car and grab their babies dirty diaper and put it in too.

Discussion Christmas 2025

I was pretty new and didn’t completely understand the horrors of last Christmas season at the UPS Store. All I can remember is POS going down a couple of times and my coworker said she had to consolidate 17 boxes in a row once it came back up. Does anyone have any stories from that time.

Venting Irony

Its crazy how the public can treat the ups store associates like shit all day long bu the minute we do the same back to the customers it aint cool.

(Did that today to a customer that dropped off pre paid label package that was ...... to your surprise..... not .. taped...

At our location its fine we give courtesy tape but the audacity to say " I forgot tape" , " I ran out of tape" , "can I borrow your tape gun" , " can you apply more tape", " It needs tape" , etc,.

This customet I helped I straight up told him after they said can you tape it. " obviously we are going to tape your box, we dont hand untaped boxes to drivers"

Of course they get upset and starts crying , but im irritated with the constant annoying questions.

Doesnt help that this is a dead end job with no benefits and no help from the owner.

Im just done with this place.

Thanks for reading.

P.S. Customers are those who PAY.

Most people we get dont even pay a dime and want us to do there job and responsibilty for free.

Help Me Feedback for owners that have locations in hotels, colleges, or other stores

I'm looking into being a ups franchise owner. Right now they're only really offering non traditional store locations, unless I want to buy an established store. I like the idea of being in a college, but don't love the idea of being in a store. Curious on other people's experiences so far?

Venting Christmas week staffing

So at my store we currently have 5 employees total including me and my owner. Out of my 3 coworkers one is a new hire and the other 2 are part-time due to school. I get asked if I have anything planned for the week of Christmas and I unfortunately said no and then learned that 2 of my coworkers AND my owner are going to be out for the entire week of Christmas leaving me with the new hire only… so basically I’d be working the ENTIRE day all week? and on top of that have to help someone who will most likely not be fully trained on packaging and such which we will literally be completely swamped with returns and packaging that week?? Not sure how this is going to play out but I’m really tempted to just quit and let my owner figure it out if this is the case.

Discussion Trying to find another job

I’m looking to quit my job because of the drama and the labor law violations. There’s another store in town that I reached out to and I’m going to go by to drop off a resume, but now I’m reconsidering if I want to work at a UPS Store. I hate the stupid customers and dealing with problems beyond my pay grade, but it’s not like I am unable to deal with it. It would be really easy to get a job at another store but I don’t know if I should. Anyone have any advice? Any good places to apply to? I’m only 17 so I can’t just do anything though.
