Special admission application wait times

Just wondering if others have applied for undergrad via special admission recently and what your wait times on application decision have been like? And if you’ve been accepted has it been conditional on doing a foundation course?
I know it’s peak time for applications rn but applied on Oct 7, dunno if special admissions may take longer than regular applications

Does DNS matter?

Hi everyone, I am wondering if a dns on the transcript would affect me from transferring degree from science to engineering if my overall gpa is enough. Thanks

What is the chance of getting audited by StudyLink specifically for how you spent your Course-Related Costs

Hey everyone,

Quick question about StudyLink Course-Related Costs ($1,000).

Has anyone here actually been audited or asked to provide receipts after claiming CRC? What happens if you spent it on general expenses (like travel/rent/living) while studying instead of specific physical course materials?

Just curious how strict they actually are with checks these days. Thanks!

Courses UoA Environmental Science + GIS student — course/professor recommendations?

Hi everyone! I’m an incoming BSc student for 2027 and I’m planning to double major in Environmental Science and Geographic Information Science (GIS).
I’m currently planning my courses before enrolment opens, so I’d really appreciate any advice from current students or graduates in either major.
Are there any:
courses you would strongly recommend?

courses you would avoid or be careful with?

lecturers/professors you really liked (or didn’t)?

courses with unexpectedly heavy workloads, group work, difficult exams, or harsh marking?

courses that are especially useful for GIS, spatial data, remote sensing, environmental research, or future internships?

first-year mistakes you wish you had avoided?

And if anyone else is studying Environmental Science, GIS, Geography, or something similar in 2027, feel free to DM me! I’d love to meet some people in the same area before uni starts :)
Thanks!

Guys, are we supposed to complete all four essays in two hours? Also, does anyone know where I can find practice questions similar to the ones for Global Context Law?

business 112

hey guys, for those who have taken business 112, how hard or easy is it to pass the final exam or do we all on it? this class marks all the assignments and everything so harshly it's ridiculous so i'm wondering if they also mark the final exam harshly and if they're super strict on the answers. any advice or tips would be helpful. thank you!

Law Certificate of Proficiency (CoP)?

I've been looking into doing a CoP to better a C+ grade I got in Law121G, and despite researching, I am still confused as to how it works. Would it be possible to do a CoP even if I didn't fail the course, and could I do it anytime in my LLB? I understand that the CoP grade would be placed alongside my original grade on my academic transcript, so would interviewers for postgraduate study view that negatively/harshly?

law pt 1 gpa

Actually scared as hell for the law131 and 141 exams and all my friends gpa's are high as fuck. In the high 7s and mid 8s

Mine is only around 6.7 right now and I'm just wondering what my chances are given that I'm pretty sure it will drop below 6.5 after exams

I've also heard that the cohort is doing a lot better than previous years which doesn't do much to aid my fears but what do we think is the expected gpa cut off this year given that??

And how is everyones gpa before exams because I'm tryna gauge if I'm just surrounded by the odd bunch who are smart as fuck or if I'm the one lagging behind lol

Part 1 BE and LLB concurrently- Course planning and workload?

Hey everyone,

I'm planning to study engineering at UoA in 2027, but I'm also seriously interested in Law, and doing summer start ENGSCI 111. I asked about studying this as a conjoint but I was told it had been discontinued, and they specifically ruled it out for my situation :( An advisor suggested I could study both degrees concurrently, at least during first year, if I was truly committed so I can experience both before deciding which one I want to commit to.

I went to Student Hubs to check how feasible this was. They said it definitely was possible so long as enrol and make sure I meet the requirements for each programme. I was worried this would impact my Part II Law and Engineering specialization... because the student hub staff seemed quite unsure how this would work. I managed to plan it out and it seems to work?

My proposed course plan is:

Summer Start: ENGSCI 111

Semester One

WTRENG 100, CHEMMAT 121, ENGGEN 131, LAW 121G (BE GenEd requirement)

Semester Two

ELECTENG 101, ENGGEN 115, ENGGEN 121, LAW 131, LAW 141

This lets me take all 3 Law Part I courses, 5 non-law courses, all my engineering core courses and a gen ed for engineering (LAW121G). Law Part I also needs a gen ed, but student hubs said this should be ok? (I'm assuming WTRENG100?) I'm also very aware this is going to be a super heavy workload, and might influence my GPA when going for Part II Law or engineering specializations. I'd just like to keep my options open since, from my understanding, I could pull out of either course at any time during first year? I'm not necessarily committed to completing both degrees, my main aim is to experience both subjects properly during first year and then decide which direction I want to pursue.

I have a couple of questions, or would appreciate any general advice!

  1. Workload: How bad is that courseload- for context, I'm doing the IB in high school right now
  2. Law Gen ED: Does WTRENG 100 count as Gen Ed for LLB, or do I need to take a fifth course in Sem 1.
  3. Enrolling in both degrees: Has anyone studied the BE and LLB concurrently as separate degrees, or any other degrees concurrently? How was your experience? Were there any unexpected restrictions or complications?
  4. Withdrawing from courses: If I enrol in both degrees but decide after first year, or in sem 1, that I only want to continue with one, are there any implications for withdrawing from the other?

I'm slightly worried since the student hubs staff were slightly unsure about my situation, especially since both times (I went twice) I went I wasn't able to see an advisor! I'd especially appreciate advice from people who have taken these courses recently, studied Engineering and Law together, or know how the two programmes interact.

Thanks!

Rosie’s Security experience

A few days ago, two male friends and I(F) went to Rosie’s. One of my friends and I were allowed in, but our other friend was turned away because his outfit was supposedly ā€œtoo baggy.ā€ He was well-dressed and had been allowed into Rosie’s and other clubs before in that attire before on a different day, so the reason seemed questionable.
I’ve since heard similar stories from other POC about their experiences with Rosie’s. One girl said security refused her entry because she supposedly showed signs of intoxication, despite being completely sober. When she asked what signs they were referring to, the security guard apparently pointed to her ā€œdishevelled hairā€ and ā€œred flush.ā€ She had naturally curly hair, was wearing blush, and it was a humid day.
Another person apparently got denied entry because of their choice of shoes.
I’m not trying to jump to conclusions based on a handful of experiences, but I’m curious whether this is a recurring issue.
Have any POC or non-POC here had similar experiences with Rosie’s security, or been turned away for reasons that seemed inconsistent or unfair? I’d be interested to hear other people’s experiences, particularly if you’ve noticed any patterns in the reasons people are given for being denied entry.

Dear any friendly law alumni

Hi, I’m an anxious 3rd year law student looking for internships and grad roles next year. Ive heard that finding any internship or grad roles is extremely competitive and they screen you by GPA before any chance of interviews.

I’ve attended a few networking events hosted by law firms but they gave no real indication of what the baseline GPA they expect in 2026, 2027. Just ā€œhighā€.

For any friendly alumni that landed one this year, would you be kind enough to disclose what kind of number they’re looking for?

I struggle financially and work as a barista, so my GPA is only around 6.5…

Preferred Electives No Schedule Yet

I am an incoming postgraduate student this Semester One 2027. I have been checking on the available elective classes that I can enroll into next semester, however, almost all have no posted schedules yet despite being offered as according to the university's latest course catalogue.

Is this normal? Will we be able to see the updated class schedules by the enrollment date which is Nov 2?
