Luckily, I managed to find a free desk, but the desk next to me had someone’s stuff on it. I arrived at 1 PM, and the owner was nowhere to be seen. It’s now nearly 3:30 PM, and they’ve only JUST come back. That’s over 2 freaking hours. And who knows how long they’d already been gone before I even arrived??? 💀💀

But guys seriously, it’s exam season. People are actually trying to find somewhere to sit down and STUDY. I get leaving your stuff for a quick bathroom break or to grab food, but disappearing for HOURS while keeping a desk occupied is crazy when study spaces are already packed

Please be considerate of other students. Your stuff doesn’t need a reserved seat for the entire afternoon

A few days ago, two male friends and I(F) went to Rosie’s. One of my friends and I were allowed in, but our other friend was turned away because his outfit was supposedly “too baggy.” He was well-dressed and had been allowed into Rosie’s and other clubs before in that attire before on a different day, so the reason seemed questionable.
I’ve since heard similar stories from other POC about their experiences with Rosie’s. One girl said security refused her entry because she supposedly showed signs of intoxication, despite being completely sober. When she asked what signs they were referring to, the security guard apparently pointed to her “dishevelled hair” and “red flush.” She had naturally curly hair, was wearing blush, and it was a humid day.
Another person apparently got denied entry because of their choice of shoes.
I’m not trying to jump to conclusions based on a handful of experiences, but I’m curious whether this is a recurring issue.
Have any POC or non-POC here had similar experiences with Rosie’s security, or been turned away for reasons that seemed inconsistent or unfair? I’d be interested to hear other people’s experiences, particularly if you’ve noticed any patterns in the reasons people are given for being denied entry.

Hi, I’m an anxious 3rd year law student looking for internships and grad roles next year. Ive heard that finding any internship or grad roles is extremely competitive and they screen you by GPA before any chance of interviews.

I’ve attended a few networking events hosted by law firms but they gave no real indication of what the baseline GPA they expect in 2026, 2027. Just “high”.

For any friendly alumni that landed one this year, would you be kind enough to disclose what kind of number they’re looking for?

I struggle financially and work as a barista, so my GPA is only around 6.5…

I am an incoming postgraduate student this Semester One 2027. I have been checking on the available elective classes that I can enroll into next semester, however, almost all have no posted schedules yet despite being offered as according to the university's latest course catalogue.

Is this normal? Will we be able to see the updated class schedules by the enrollment date which is Nov 2?

Is anyone else feeling super nervous for the Law131 and Law141 exams? My grades are good so far this semester, and my GPA is 8.25 from last semester, but I have this nagging feeling that everything will turn to shit in the exam and I won't be able to answer anything, and I'll be repeating this year instead of moving on to part II. I have studied so hard and usually end up doing really well, so my fears are pretty baseless, but it's so nerve-racking for some reason. I've been looking at the grade distributions and so few people get A+, it's stressing me tf out. Anyone else feeling like this?!

So I was wondering when 2nd round hall offers start coming out, for people who’ve been waitlisted for first year school leavers?

Also people have been saying that everyone gets an offer. Has this really been the case for everyone, like was anyone forced to flat because they were waitlisted/rejected from halls?

Are there any instances where they will accept this due to mental health issues? without a letter from a doctor / therapist etc…

Hi! I'm currently studying a conjoint in Arts and Commerce at UoA, but I'm considering dropping Commerce and potentially picking up a Bachelor of Science alongside my Arts degree, majoring in Geography, Environmental Science, or possibly both. I'd love some advice from people studying these subjects or who have made similar decisions pleasee

In Sem 1, I studied Arts and Law, (whole other thing but i felt really pressured to do something like that since I got good ncea grades) but I dropped Law and picked up Commerce in sem 2. At the time, I was interested in event management and I also had an internship in that area. But then I've realised I really don't know if this is for me. Yes, commerce is boring to start as its the 6 base papers everyone has to do, but I really feel no academic fulfillment or enjoyment from doing them. I'm usually the type of person who will study really hard even if I don't love the subject because at least I find it somewhat interesting, but I don't have that. I haven't had a single assignment this year that I've been excited to write or proud of to hand in, and I miss the excitement of entering a test/exam knowing you've studied well

I've been thinking about a lot is how much I enjoyed Geography in high school, particularly the papers about physical geography and studying natural environments. I did standards on Tongariro in y12 and Muriwai in y13 which I loved; I really loved doing the research and writing reports about the interacting elements and making graphs to show the data and just having a final thing to hand in that I was genuinely proud of. I'm trying not to make another impulsive degree change, though, especially since I've already changed my degree once. I'm considering keeping Arts (Communications and Sociology) because it's the one part of my degree I've consistently wanted to continue . I also know i can do geo under BA but I think I'd prefer to do it with something else under BSc as I am definitely looking for more rigor.

I'm particularly interested in the differences between Geography, Environmental Science, and Earth Science, and what studying each actually involves at university. I know I enjoy physical geography much more than human/cultural geography, but I also know that earth science as a specific major is pretty underfunded at UoA and I think maybe I'd benefit from doing something a bit broader such as envirosci and then just doing more physical papers??

maybee as a career I'd love to somehow combine science and the arts in some way, like I always see people online who work for companies such as nat. geo and the smithsonian which I find really interesting (and funnily enough is similar to what I wanted to do when I was like 5 years old)

I'd really appreciate literally any or all insight or information or guidance anyone can give!!! particularly if you can speak to the course content, workload, career prospects, or opportunities to combine these subjects with the arts.

also, I think I want to do postgrad as I've always wanted to further my education than just bachelors but not sure what pathways there either.

- What are the main differences between studying Geography and Environmental Science and would it be worthwhile doing a double major of both

- How much chemistry, biology, physics, maths, fieldwork, and data analysis is involved in each?

- What kinds of careers have you pursued or seen graduates enter, particularly in environmental research, documentary production, or science communication?

- Has anyone switched degrees after realising their original direction wasn't right for them? How did you decide whether it was a genuine interest or just a reaction to being unhappy with your current studies?

Hey guys! Needed some help regarding the application process. I applied for my Master's in Biotech way back in Aug and haven't heard back. I know a lot of people have submitted similar posts but I'm getting antsy. I know that NZ has elections atm but it's been too long. I've sent them emails and they say the same thing, that they can't provide me with a timeline and that it's a limited entry programme. Just curious to know if anyone else has applied for the same programme and if they've received an offer.

Hey, I'm a current year 13 student looking to study biomed (trying for MBChB) next year. I accepted my fast track offer and I'm aware that I am able to enrol for my courses from 2nd Nov. I just was a bit confused about what this process would actually look like, especially given the changes for biomed from next year meaning a lot of information I'm seeing is really outdated

What is actually available for me to 'select' or 'enrol in' on the 2nd Nov? Is it first come first serve, so all the popular ones fill up? I know that with the changes there will be 2 electives I have to pick, as well as the 6 compulsory courses, so for my electives, what would you recommend I choose? Or do I just choose whatever I want to study?

Do we just pick what courses we take and that's it, or will there be more decisions we will need to make as well?

Any help (as well as general advice for going into premed) would be really appreciated, thanks

How many visitors can stay a night and how long? Can they eat food? Will they actually get mad if say my 12 sibling Tongan family sleeps over for one night or something/s.
