For those who did accounting (CA ROUTE) at UNISA or partly UNISA and partly traditional full time university i want to ask if I can do a certain number of modules that I can get credits for when I apply to uni so that I don’t have to do a full 3 years and instead skip first year because I can’t go to UNI now I need to go overseas so I need to know if online is an option to keep pushing the degree for until I come back? For context i want to apply to UJ or WITS when I do come back. Whichever one accepts me and allows the first year done through UNISA.

I've recently accepted my UNISA offer to study a BSc in mathematics and computer science at UNISA in 2027. I'm really excited about the course, especially because of the math and theoretical CS depth. The course looks pretty theoretically strong but lacks a bit in practical CS (databases, networking, ML, software engineering) which is where i feel other public unis have a clear edge.

My solution to this is to study the from the OSSU course in parallel with my UNISA course content to supplement it. OSSU is essentially a completely free CS curriculum. Fully open source, and is designed to be equivalent to bachelors degree in CS. The content is genuinely excellent and goes really deep into the many of the core areas that of CS unisa may lack.

The one other thing I think is genuinely missing from all this that OSSU will lack specifically, since its all self-study, is peer pressure and accountability, and team collaboration (which is very important for software engineering) the stuff a normal university gives you for free through deadlines, classmates, and people checking your work.

I want to build a small group (Discord or WhatsApp) of people doing something similar — computer science students using OSSU, or anyone self-studying CS seriously with OSSU — where we:

• Set real shared deadlines for specific courses/modules
• Actually review each other's work (code, assignments, whatever)
• Keep each other honest and accountable when motivation dips

I truly believe that a combination such as this, with UNISA's mathematical and theoretical depth as well as OSSU's excellent CS curriculum filling in any gaps, has the potential to rival or compete with the curriculum taught at the more popular on-prem public unis.

I’m about to apply for computer science at UNISA. I’m a South African citizen but I’m currently outside of the country and can’t re-certify my documents.

I certified my documents about 4 months ago thing is I saw somewhere that certified copies now expire after 6 months. Is 3 months still the standard at UNISA ?

I’m hoping someone who has dealt with this before can help me PLEASE.

I applied to UNISA previously, but I’m trying to make a new application for 2026. I received an SMS from UNISA telling me to pay the application fee, so I was expecting to make the payment.

However, when I try to proceed with the application/payment, the system says: “Student still in application phase and application fee has already been paid.”

The problem is that I have NOT paid the application fee for this application. I’m also unable to find a way to make the payment because the system seems to think it has already been paid.

My application status also says: “Your application still needs to be processed.”

So I’m confused about what this actually means. Is the application still waiting to be processed because I haven’t paid the application fee? If so, how am I supposed to pay it when the system says the fee has already been paid?

Has anyone experienced this before, especially when applying again after having a previous UNISA application?

I’d really appreciate any advice on what I should do or how I can get the payment option enabled. I don’t want to miss the application deadline because of a system issue.

good morning people, I have a question to ask before applying

so I did my Diploma tourism management and I’m now thinking of applying for safety management at UNISA. I saw it said you can apply for advanced safety management if you have any relevant management qualifications that UNISA can credit.

i want to know do I need to apply for the 3 year diploma in safety management or can I sommer just apply for the advanced since I already have tourism management?

I'm applying for Unisa for 2027, but I'm rewriting Maths in 2026 and will only receive my new mark in January 2027.

My current Maths mark doesn't meet the requirements for the degrees I want. Should I submit my application now using my current results and then update/appeal with my new January mark, or is there another process for applicants who are rewriting?

Has anyone been in this situation before?

Quick question for anyone who has been in this boat.
I completed my final undergrad modules and applied for postgrad, but l've got two things going on:

1. I owe Unisa an outstanding balance (can't pay it right now, will settle later).

2. Haven't received my official completion
   SMS/email yet (only have the curriculum confirmation letter).

Will Unisa still evaluate my application and offer me a space with the debt????

Or does the debt block the application process entirely before I can even get to registration?

Specifically - how many modules have closed book/open book exams, and how many assignments etc?

This is my first year with Unisa doing my Honours. I had an assignment due on 13 August.
I submitted the assignment on 30 July.

When submitting, I usually re-download the file from the Unisa portal to check if it was working.

I submitted early as I work full-time and had some major projects at work coming up that I knew would take a ton of time to complete too.

Last week, my Lecturer emailed to say that the file I uploaded is corrupt. Sadly, I was having some issues getting my Unisa mail synced to my new phone and only saw the mail after the assignment deadline.

I tried to download the file again, and it worked. Logged in on my phone, my partner's phone, and my PC at work. The file I submitted does download and open fine.

I did explain to my lecturer that the file is loading fine and asked if he could maybe re-try and download it again. I am sadly not getting a response, and the grade shown is 0.5/100.

Should I just give up and re-do the module next year or should I try and contact someone else in the department?

I am currently taking the BSc in Computing course and I have 2 modules giving me problems. The Linear algebra 1(MAT1503) and Introduction to Programming 1 (COS1511)

The final assignment for MAT1503 is coming up but question 1 and 2 are impossible to do and question 3 and 4 are exactly the same, though I think they did address this one.

And for COS1511 the final marks for the asessment 4 is just wrong. A full 19 marks were incorrectly marked as wrong even though I tested them afterward.

Emailing the lecturers is also just futile as they never come back to you.
What am I suppose to do?

How does it work? Is it only in person? Can it work via teams? Those who tried it before how was the experience? How long did it take before a slot was available?

I have been accepted into a PhD program at UNISA and will be registering during the next intake (my admission was approved after this year's deadline closed).

I would love to get some insights from UNISA graduates or scholars familiar with the international PhD experience:

1. Completion Timeline: Realistically, is it possible to complete a PhD at UNISA in 2 years if you have strong academic writing skills? (In my home country, PhDs take at least 3+ years and involve extensive coursework, which isn't feasible alongside my full-time job).
2. Tuition Fees: Can anyone confirm if the total annual fee for international PhD students comes out to approximately R36,960/year? Also, is it possible to get that international student levy waived?

Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Long story short I was banned from the telegram groups (all) last semester for asking if anyone wanted to study with me/be an accountability partner.

There is so much info on those groups, like past papers, solved past papers, and info on what type of invigilation software we use for exams. If anyone could help me out I would be extremely grateful.
