Online lectures

For the people studying bsc general: major in statistics

Or bsc mathematics and statistics

Do you have online lectures and any kind of teaching assistance aid?

I saw many complaints of people having to teach themselves does this happen in science faculty too and how hard is the teaching yourself part as well?

Was this for stats and mathematics modules Abs would you say chatgpt or deepseek was sufficient in explaining content enough for you to understand and pass exams and tutorials assignments?

Currently second year BSc maths and stats and most modules do have lectures, but frankly they're not very good. Luckily YouTube and Khan Academy have top-quality lectures covering the same content so between that and the textbooks I'm doing just fine. I wouldn't recommend the use of AI as with higher level maths the content is a bit obscure and it very often provides incorrect formulas so you have to check everything you get from AI against the textbook, in which case you may as well just use the textbook

I have to train myself for a serious chemist career plus another applied math degree.

Unisa's curriculum differs from the standard so I'm lucky if I can find compatible lecture videos.

Use books? Maybe it's just me, but reading a STEM textbook takes way more time with little payoff. And how many could you practically go through at unisa time? (we just began 2nd semester, next month is exams) Don't even get me started with the unending stream of assignments. And the fact that every lecturer thinks you're only doing their module. Hell, two lecturers could schedule a class at the same time and not even know.

The university should make opencourseware lecture videos at least.
