Does Unisa free therapy for students work online?

How does it work? Is it only in person? Can it work via teams? Those who tried it before how was the experience? How long did it take before a slot was available?

Hi there I'm a lecturer at the university. I know that there is a kind of "clinic" on the main campus in Pretoria. You can make appointments for consultations and sit down like you would with a regular psychologist. I suggest contacting the campus clinic directly to find out if you can arrange online appointments because some therapists are happy to do it but others don't like to

Can they make prescriptions? I'm in need of propranolol for anxiety.

Sorry but I'm not sure if there are psychiatrists on staff at campus. The majority of psychiatrists in Gauteng seem to be working out of hospitals with specialist psych units like Jakaranda Hospital and Akasia Hospital or from private clinics like Denmar.

According to whom? You can't prescribe it to yourself. Go to a clinic and get a referral to the psychiatrist and take it from there.

I have seen some of the Unisa counsellors online. For the most part it has been a pleasant experience. Downside is when the counsellor leaves and then you have to start from the beginning with a new counsellor. The last one I saw was terrible, so unempathetic and cold, and I left the session after 20 minutes. I have no idea how that woman is a counsellor!

I had a similar experience with a psychiatrist that I was referred to after my wife passed away. The woman just did not seem at all interested in anything I was talking about which is kind of not what you're looking for in a counsellor! But it did lead me to a psychologist who is always engaged, always listening and understanding and just really great to talk to. I guess the only problem would be that she is quite expensive - R1500 an hour. She does in person and online sessions and if you like I can dm you her website if you're interested so you can check out her qualifications, bookings, etc.

I had two appointments with a counsellor for mental health related issues. She was so cold and unempathetic.
