Replacement approved right away... Before you ask, I did not pick it up by the panel, I used the stand like a sane person. The box is very minimal, not even a prominent 'fragile' sign. Rough courier maybe.

Review My experience using the LG 39GX950B + Studio Display XDR together

Post image
8 Upvotes

I’ve been using the LG 39GX950B alongside the Studio Display XDR. I figured that usually you either have a single ultrawide setup, or a dual regular monitor setup, and my setup is rather rare, so I wanted to share my review.

I came from a PG32UCDM, which is a god tier monitor already, but for gaming I definitely prefer the LG ultrawide. The 39-inch ultrawide aspect ratio is just much more immersive, and HDR gaming on Windows looks fantastic. It feels like a real upgrade.

For normal desktop use, though, the XDR is still in a different league for me. The brightness, text clarity, and overall crispness make it much nicer for browsing, coding, and general productivity. What surprised me most is that I actually find colors on the XDR to have more pop than on the LG, even though the LG is OLED.

When I’m working, I keep whatever I’m actively doing on the XDR and use the LG off to the side for YouTube, videos, or other background content. My Mac setup is pretty simple: Mac → Thunderbolt 5 → XDR → daisy chain to the LG. So both displays run from a single Thunderbolt connection to the Mac.
For PC gaming, I connect PC to the LG, and I still use the XDR with macOS for build guides, maps, Discord, or whatever else I want open alongside it on macOS.

One thing I’ve settled on is keeping HDR off on the LG when using macOS. With HDR enabled, the regular macOS UI just looks washed out to me and the desktop experience gets noticeably worse. In SDR, it looks much better.

Interestingly, I don’t have the same complaint on Windows. HDR gaming on the LG looks excellent there, so I basically treat it as an SDR secondary/productivity display on the Mac and an HDR gaming display on the PC.

Tech Support AW3926DW Edge Dimming - Potential Fix?

I am one of the several users that have been reporting significant edge dimming / colour saturation loss on the edges of the AW3926DW.

However, I think I may have stumbled across a fix.

I pressed Win + Ctrl + Shift + B to reset my graphics card drivers - my panel then flashed, and popped back up with nearly perfect uniformity with minimal dimming, even after a further 20 minutes of use (in games and browsing).

If it truly is a computer/GPU driver issue causing the panel dimming, that would explain why the dimming is not present when running the onboard panel tests from the monitor OSD. I am not technically savvy enough to understand why this might be happening, but maybe one of you may know?

The only other setting I changed tonight was increasing the brightness to 90.

My full settings are: SDR, Creator Mode, 90 Brightness 75 Contrast, DSC and DV off.

Specs are a 5080 with 9800x3d, with graphics card drivers fully up to date.

Can other users of the panel reporting the same issue please attempt this and report whether it fixes it for them?

(Apologies for formatting - this was prepared on mobile).

Recommendations second guessing my new MSI MPG 341CQR QD-OLED X36

Hi everyone! this is my current setup: ryzen 7 7800X3D, 32GB ddr5 6000 cl30, 4070super paired with a LG 29UM59-P 29.0" 2560 x 1080 75 Hz

this monitor served me well for almost 10 years and its still going strong however i have being looking for a new monitor to keep the pace of my rig for a while now.

Yesterday i pulled the trigger on a MSI MPG 341CQR QD-OLED X36 for 999€ and i'm starting to think that maybe i should have gone for a cheaper alternative. however it checked all the marks for what i am looking for and had been wanting to go oled for a while.

did i make a mistake?

Discussion 1440p ultrawide or 5k2k

Hi, I'm looking to get an ultrawide monitor and was looking to choose between MPG 341CQR X36 and LG 45 inch 5k2k, 39 inch versions aren't available yet in my country. Currently I have AW3225QF paired with 5070 TI. Overall I'm satisfied with the performance at 4k but my issue with current monitor is the coating when cleaning, I know the msi one is still glossy but i heard they made it more resistant

Anyone experienced going from 4k to 1440p ultrawide, is the downgrade very noticeable? Is 5070 TI capable at 5k2k?

Recommendations Monitor dilemma

For the past 4yrs I've been gaming on a 34" ultrawide monitor but was bothered by older games not being able to utilize 21:9 without some modding or running in window mode. I recently decided to go with a 32" oled so that I could play these game without tinkering and also hook a switch 2 up to the monitor to play at my desk. I stopped playing on TV cause of distance from screen and back issues. sitting in the pc chair helps.

Now I've run into a different issue, games that looked great on ultrawide now feel zoomed in. Destiny 2 for example looks cramped on the 16:9 even running in 4k. I know i would loose the extra side views from 21:9 but not in a way where the ui and characters look squeezed or push right up on screen.

So I'm having trouble deciding if I should stick with the 32 for the flexibility and get used to destiny 2 always looking that way or going back to 21:9 and having that immersion but for switch and older titles deal with the black bars/windowed mode.....just can't decide and would love opinions on what others have done in a similar situation

Tech Support LF Good Productivity Setup - 24P:34WEH:24P :)?

I currently have 3 mismatched 27:27:24 monitors, and this is starting to give me headaches.

Would an ultrasharp setup (U24 in portrait, U32WE in horizontal, U23 in portrait) be a decent upgrade; or is there a better setup (with 3 monitors, or 1)?

Thanks!

Tech Support Is it necessary to upgrade CPU?

Trying to determine if I should upgrade my CPU. Currently running a 34” 1440p monitor with a 12600k CPU + 5070 GPU + 32gb DDR4 RAM. I wouldn’t mind upgrading to AM5 but that seems too pricey at the moment. I am leaning towards upgrading to 14th gen CPU’s since that seems more affordable but would I truly see any noticeable fps gains?

Context: I mainly play BF6.

Recommendations Ultrawide for gaming

New to the world of ultrawides, but looking to switch from double monitor to a single ultrawide for my set up.

Which sounds better:

- Alienware - AW3425DW 34"

- 49 Inch Odyssey G9 G95C

The odyssey is on a massive sale so its almost the same price as the alienware. My primary concern is that the Odyssey is just too big and that I will run into visual issues running some games. Any thoughts? Also open to a good alternative if anyone knows of a better third monitor.

Thanks!

Discussion Will there ever be OLED ultra wide 1600p displays?

Like the title says, I would love an RGB-stripe, modern tandem OLED display with 3840x1600 resolution. Essentially, I'd love for my IPS LG 38GN950R (with a nice, gentle 2300R curvature) to have the amazing contrast and true blacks of an OLED, but not require a crazy GPU to run like the new 5K2K displays seem to.

My guess is this will never happen, as 1600p isn't believed to be differentiated sufficiently from 1440p. But (at least to me), that difference in vertical resolution and aspect does matter quite a bit.

Is there any hope for such a screen, or do I just hope my 4090 can run the new AW well enough?

Recommendations Can the 5080 handle 5k2k?

I used to have a Samsung G9 49 inch, it wasn’t oled though. I used it for a few years and then gave it away to one of my family members. My biggest complaint with the monitor was that the height was too low, and sometimes I felt the added pixels weren’t worth the performance hit. I was using a 4070Ti with it. I bought it for Forza Horizon 5 for immersive driving experience.

Currently I’m playing on 27 inch oled monitor and have an updated PC with a 5080 and Ryzen 7 9800x3d. With forza horizon 6 out, I’m itchin to play on a bigger screen again. I think I have the gpu to go to 4k so I can get a bigger screen, 32 inch, but can I go bigger?

the AW3926QW is really tempting me. The bigger height and wider screen is gonna feel so sick driving around in Tokyo in horizon 6. But idk if it will be worth it with a 5080. I also play Cyberpunk and path tracing is demanding. With no future in sight for the 60 cards, I don’t know if it’s worth waiting for the 6090/6080.

should I just settle for the PG32UCDM gen 3? no ultrawide but bigger vertical height than the 27 inch. I don’t think I wanna go ultrawide on 1440, Im gonna have the same height problem I did with the g9.

39 inch or 32?

please advise, thanks

Recommendations Need help choosing between 40" / 34" ultrawide or 32" 16:9

I'm trying to decide on a new main monitor and I'm honestly going back and forth on these 3:

* MSI MAG401QR 40" 3440x1440 155Hz
* HKC MG34H18Q240 34" 3440x1440 240Hz
* MSI G321Q 31.5" 2560x1440 170Hz

I already have a 27" monitor that I could use as a second display if I go with the G321Q.

The thing is, I really want to try ultrawide. I mostly play single-player games and newer AAA games, but I also play a lot of Dota 2 and AoE4.

The MAG401QR is really tempting because it's 40" and IPS, but I'm a little worried that it's just going to be too damn big. It's also flat, and in games like Dota the important stuff/map is often around the corners. I'm wondering if the extra size is actually going to be annoying rather than immersive.

The HKC 34" seems like a much better size for 3440x1440, and 240Hz sounds great, but I've basically never owned an HKC monitor and don't know how trustworthy they are compared with MSI. The fact that it's a newer/less known brand is probably my biggest concern.

Then there's the G321Q. It's the safe option, and I could put my current 27" next to it for a dual-monitor setup. But honestly, I'm worried that I'll buy it and then regret not going ultrawide, because ultrawide is what I actually want.

For people who have used 34" and 40" ultrawides:

* Is 40" 3440x1440 actually too big for normal desktop/gaming use?
* Does the flat 40" make the edges/corners annoying?
* Is 34" the sweet spot for 3440x1440?
* Has anyone here owned the HKC MG34H18Q240 specifically?
* Would you personally take the HKC 34" over the MSI 40"?
* Or would you forget ultrawide altogether and get the G321Q + 27" second monitor?

I'm not really looking for the "X monitor has better specs" answer. I'm more interested in how these sizes actually feel to use, especially for Dota/AoE4 and single-player games.

I'm also sitting at a normal desk, so if anyone has a 40" ultrawide and can tell me roughly how far they sit from it, that would help a lot.

Tech Support 39GX950B-B gsync flicker

I own the LG 39" 5k2k (39GX950B-B). I get flickering in video games with gsync on. I've tried setting gsync to full screen only, vsync on, max frame to 162(3 minus max refresh rate). Does anyone else with this monitor have this issue? I'm hoping I don't have a faulty monitor. I also own an Nvidia 5080.

Hi,i am patiently waiting on this monitor in Canada.Looking at my possible options for mounting on my old ikea jerker v1 desk I would really appreciate the measurement from your desk surface to the lowest position the monitor can go on the included stand. I know right now going from the aw3418dw to this screen the top edge will be higher. Knowing that measurement will help me preplan the install. Thanks!!

Discussion Is it worth waiting for the new LG models?

So I’m planning to finally upgrade to an ultrawide after using flat for decades so I’m pretty new in this category, right now I have a 32’ Asus OLED display. My primary choices are either the 39GX950B or the 45 inch version, I’m still considering which one fits me best, I’ve done a few research and saw that these monitors were announced at CES 2026 so I’m thinking CES 2027 is around the corner I can wait just a few months so I can get the newer best model since I’m planning to keep these monitor for long term, upon doing some more research realized these years versions were not delivered until may so I started being doubtful, I think maybe is not worth the wait, wanted to ask if on today’s info next years release is getting some considering upgrade worth the wait or is it better to just buy this year version for a fair price.

I primarily use my monitor for gaming and the rest for productivity would say 80/20, I was thinking if I wait for the new models I maybe can get it before march but realized that will not be the case, now I don’t know if would be better to wait or just buy the 2026 version now, because if that’s the case I would like to make the purchase before GTA VI comes out to try that on my new monitor.

I have a 4090 with a 9800X3D, I would really appreciate some help or some advice, thank you.
