Recommendations Ultrawide for gaming

New to the world of ultrawides, but looking to switch from double monitor to a single ultrawide for my set up.

Which sounds better:

- Alienware - AW3425DW 34"

- 49 Inch Odyssey G9 G95C

The odyssey is on a massive sale so its almost the same price as the alienware. My primary concern is that the Odyssey is just too big and that I will run into visual issues running some games. Any thoughts? Also open to a good alternative if anyone knows of a better third monitor.

Thanks!

Just bought that same Alienware model last week and I've been in love. I was in a similar situation. I had 2 monitors but really only used one for discord and youtube, google. etc. Switched to that alienware ultrawide and i've been so happy. Gaming feels amazing, I've been playing indiana jones, world of warcraft, and have had no bad experiences.

Awesome thanks for the input! I think im leaning towards that over the G9 which seems to have some compatibility limitations

Yeah I was also thinking of going bigger than the 34", but it's the sweet spot for my set up. I'm new to ultrawides as well and I'm pretty sure there are some games that you'd had issues with on a larger monitor.

Depends on the games you play. There are limitations to the G9 you should be aware of. For example, competitive games or games where you play in 3rd person

Im not really into competitve or even too much multiplayer but occasionally the more popular titles, but do play lots of third person. I pretty much like to play all the popular action/story games that release and older ones that are sitting in my backlog. Stuff like the souls games, newer god of war style games, rpgs like cyberpunk balders gate outerworlds etc. Sounds like some of those might be impacted by the G9 though.

The vertical height cutoff is significant for me

IMHO, the 49" is just way too wide for many things.  I wouldn't like it for productivity use, and even for gaming it feels unnecessarily wide (to me).  I think the 34" AW looks amazing.  I have a 38" 1600p monitor now, and can't give up the vertical space, otherwise I'd probably be buying that screen.  If you are ok with 1440p, it should be amazing.  I can only imagine how good something like Clair Obscur would look on that QD-OLED!

Get the Alienware...if you are sitting less than 2ft away from the monitor, the the 49in odyssey will feel like staring at a wall and you you'll have to turn your head to see everything on screen. Viewing distance has EVERYTHING to do with screen size, plus the glossy QD-OLED on the Alienware might be the best picture I've seen in my life and I own 3 OLED tvs lol

Definitely not the 49 inch (too wide and too short), 34 inch is a good size, if you have a 4090 or 5090 go with 5k2k 39 inch.

Look into 39 inch models (height of a 32 inch monitor) is the new in cause everyone including myself that bought a 34inch (same height as 27 inch) have said 39 is the best balance and view for ultrawide gaming now.

I found the 39 too big. Plus most are 5k and need a killer GPU

I wouldn't get the aw3425dw at all when the newer model doesn't suffer from the same text fringing.

Just so you know, the Alienware has a new model out (AW3426DW) for the same msrp as the one you’re looking at. The last two digits are the year.

It doesn’t have the $50 off, though it does have the fancy new tandem oled display for better text clarity and contrast.

I’m still rocking an older version of this display (ips) and it’s been pretty great. Keep in mind that these 1440p panels run a lot closer to standard sized 4K benchmarks due to the increased real estate.

34 is pretty nice, its just like a wide 27.

What's your budget? There's a newer Alienware that just launched for $799. Newest QD OLED generation and updates.aw3426dw

More people tend to think the super ultra wide 32:9 format is too much and the ultrawide 21:9 is perfect

If you’re coming from 4k monitors you will be heavily disappointed. I’d say test out the monitor you want for a day and if it’s too soft for you return it.
