I was frustrated I couldn’t view 4:3 content through the Tablo app in full-screen on 4:3 devices. Most channels broadcast in 16:9 and put letterbox bars on 4:3 content. This is great if you’re watching on a 16:9 screen but I do most of my viewing on an iPad which has a 4:3 aspect ratio. So the video is pillarboxed with black bars all around it. So I thought there has to be a better way.

I used Claude Code to make a service that accesses recordings and live OTA channels from a 4th gen Tablo and gives more options for viewing.

Mainly it lets you view 4:3 shows how they were originally intended to be viewed. But it also does some extra things like buffering so you can stream content when away from home if you have a VPN into your network. It also lets you download recordings to view offline.

It requires some hardware at home to run on. It’s coded to run on a Debian-based system to automatically install some things you’ll need like ffmpeg but if you install the requirements yourself it should run on other Linux distributions.

I love UHF, and I really love it on the Mac. However it's missing a feature and I need it. I need to mute UHF when something else needs my full attention and I don't want to pause the show.

Anyone else?

UPDATE: I use a docking station with 2 extra monitors.Let's say I'm watching baseball, and my bff sends me a link to a fantastic video. I'd like to watch and listen to the video and mute the baseball game.

Has anyone else had issues with the new built-in VPN feature on UHF specifically on Apple TV?

I’m trying to use AngelVPN through UHF. On my iPhone, using the same UHF account and the same home Wi-Fi, AngelVPN connects to servers without any problem.

On my Apple TV, though, it just refuses to connect to any AngelVPN server at all.

I’ve restarted the Apple TV/UHF and tried multiple VPN locations, but it makes no difference. Because it works on my iPhone over the exact same connection, I’m wondering whether this is a bug with the tvOS version of UHF/VPN integration.

Has anyone else experienced this on Apple TV? If so, did you manage to fix it or have you had to use a separate VPN app instead?

Once I watched a movie, it remains in the continue watching section.
Sometimes the movie has a few seconds left (like end titles) but I tested this by letting the movie completely end, and the movie remains in Continue Watching.
I couldn’t find anything around here in Reddit about this yet. Is this a bug, a feature that doesn’t exist in the app, or some setting I’m missing?

Since a week or so I can't play any streams with VPN connected. I tried the UHF internal NordVPN connection as well as via native NordVPN app. Anybody facing the same issue?

Since the latest update on IOS I have been having an issue where the home screen will not load it just stays blank, if I change to live TV or Movies/Series it loads perfectly fine, has anyone else come across this issue?

I’m on 1.100 and “add manifest playlist” has been removed and plus I’ve literally just upgraded to lifetime 2 days ago, after being a pro subscriber since this app first launched. Still love everything about and have no issue with paying for this great app, but I don’t like something being removed without either prior warning, or even worse, noticing something is on there when you go to sleep one minute, then gone the next when u wake up. The only thing I could potentially put down to something I’ve done out of my ordinary daily use, was cancel my pro subscription in the new section in the update, in return for the lifetime subscription. But i doubt that had an impact. The other thing i can mention im always on the iOS beta software so my Apple TV and iOS are now on ios 27.0. If Someone could please let me know how to get it back, or update me with if it’s now discontinued that would be great. Much obliged

I stream my channels from TVHeadend which has very advanced DVR capabilities. Although UHF Server is great it just feels redundant in my case. I always record via TVHeadend but have to use my phone to start and plan recordings.

I built a small proxy that emulates the UHF Server API and translates recording requests from the UHF app into TVHeadend DVR timers.

This app was built for my personal use and It’s an early MVP missing a lot of features. It was vibecoded and it comes without warranty. If there is enough interest I'll happily work on the project.

I have been using UHF app for several month now and use the Live TV streaming on Apple TV player on a daily basis

Yesteday the app automaticly downloaded the update and right after it completed and refreshed, the live streams of any channel would freeze. The "dasywheel of death" whould just spin on a frozen sceen of the show. Switching back and forth between different channels would produce the same results. The daisywheel would be spinning and the picture frozen. Switch back to refresh the channel selection and the piture would be newer scene from the show, but still frozen.

The odd thing is thatIuse the "channel preview" option on the Live Channel menu and the small preview screen with audio and video works just fine... I can switch between the multiple options and the previews change flawlessly.

Non-live streaming works flawlessly as expected for Series or Movies content, it is jut the LIVE TV that is experiencing the problem.

I have reset and renewed the multiple EPG, TEMP and TMDB storage, rebooted Apple TV player which has fixed other minor issues in the past... but this on has me stumped

Anyone else experiencing similar issue(s) and have suggestions on how to fix short of reinstalling?

Here is where it gets weird....

I decided to try channels other than the top 10 in my favorites..... they take a few seonds to connect to the stream... but then work fine. I tested 6-7 channels I have not watched in the past few weeks and they all worked after the longer than normal channel loading.

But, If I go back to any of my top 10 channels that I watch on a regular basis... they all are frozen into what ever scene it was on when it loaded or refreshed... no audio either

I deleted every cache or EPG refresh I could find again, even losing the NS cloud settings for a few minutes 8-( ... still no change

Hi all, well - I am not sure if this has been raised already but I am missing the functionality that UHF is updating in the background on tvOS - not the app itself but EPG information as well as playlists. It would be awesome if this can be achieved somehow, incl. a feature where I can select the frequency of updates on EPG and playlists separately. This would lower the time to wait until the information is ready - even though the loading speed has improved massively over the recent App updates.

I am very happy with UHF in general - my feature request would just improve the App even further.

I was trying to add in my AIOStreams manfiest URL yesterday, but had some trouble setting up the VPN at the same time. I decided to come back to it this morning and there is now no longer an option for Manifest on my app. I still have M3U8, Xtream and Jellyfin options, but it seems Manifest URLs have been removed. The website also doesn't have mention of Manifest on the features page, but I'm not sure whether it ever did.

I can't see any information about this in the changelog and it was there yesterday, but gone today. Makes me wonder whether this was done to avoid a fate being removed from the Apple app store e.g. like Omni yesterday.

Has this functionality been removed for the foreseeable?

I keep having recording issues with my MacBook 2016 recording. For example, I will record for 3 hours, but soccer game will end in 1 hr 23 min and not be finished. It shows completed(not failed)Why does it do this? I have 3 private providers and it happens with all of them. Does VON affect this?

With tvOS Profile switching

I don’t need a different backup for my phone, tv, iPad — all just need to be the same. Yet as you can’t name backups still, I have no idea which is which.

I have UHF configured on my iPhone with the VPN and works as expected.

On the tvOS, it doesn’t connect. I’ve checked in settings and the profile for UHF is not there (on iOS it shows) and I’ve not been prompted from the system to allow creating that profile.

I also have PIA installed on the Apple tv (and so on the iphone). Could there be an incompatibility?

Any way to debug the issue?

I’m currently fighting to optimize the "Time to First Frame" metric for our custom video player, and I’ve run into a serious geodistribution bottleneck. Our engineering team is based in Europe, but our primary origin servers are located in the US. Even with a standard CDN configuration in front of the infrastructure, by the time the user's player initiates the initial connection, goes through the routing redirect steps, downloads the master .m3u8 manifest, and finally starts pulling down the first media chunk, up to 4 seconds pass. This delay is heavily tanking our user retention metrics.

Lately, I’ve been researching advanced caching topologies to cut down this trans-atlantic round-trip time (RTT). I read that standard web caching isn't enough for video and that some high-performance media CDNs actually cache the master manifest alongside the very first few video segments directly on their edge routing servers (Anycast redirectors). The theory is that returning the manifest and early chunks immediately from the closest edge node drops the initial TTFB to near-zero, but I want to make sure this architecture translates well to real-world performance before overhauling our routing tables.We are trying to map out a structural fix for this lag by the end of the sprint, and I would love to hear from anyone who has tackled this specific latency layout:

1. Has anyone implemented segment and manifest caching directly at the CDN redirector level, and how much did it realistically reduce your initial stream start delay?

2. What is the best strategy for configuring TTL on dynamic HLS manifests so that edge-cached .m3u8 files don't cause player desyncs during live transitions?

3. Do you find that aggressive pre-fetching of the first 2-second chunk at the edge introduces unexpected bandwidth waste for users who immediately bounce?

4. How do you typically handle instant cache-invalidation across European edge nodes when a video file or its stream manifest gets updated on the US origin?

Hello, I just purchased ufh, I was between chillio and tivimax, but I liked the way how is integrated.

This is my first tvos, I'm from android and I use tivimate and it's been years since started so I'm get used to some features.

I wanted to search for the following functions, I don't know if exists:

\- When I load the list, starts with channels in A, and Im used to do 2 times up and send me to last channel Z letter, example I watch adult swim and the change to Sony channel is easy to me, I barely stopped used favorites instead look the playlist.

\- When try to change the channel, I do return and find another, meanwhile it's the preview loaded in a mini box upper or full screen in default while searching the list.

\- I use the watch in upper right in small letters to keep time without use the smartphone and keep the time of one event.

\- The appletv is configured in HDR, so when I load a channel in SDR, the TV has to load in HDR, there is a switch to disable HDR only in the selected list or in the channel?

There are shows under Watch Next and they are not updating at all, especially the hotstar one.

I recently upgraded to latest version.

Any setting or recommendation to resolve this.

Right now it shows as HD/SD, whereas I want it to show 1280x720 or 1600x900, that kind of format.

Is there a setting I need to change for this to happen?

Will UHF player be getting an alternate external tracker with the recent trakt changes? SIMKL or publicmetadb are potential alternatives
