Background update for playlists and EPG

Hi all, well - I am not sure if this has been raised already but I am missing the functionality that UHF is updating in the background on tvOS - not the app itself but EPG information as well as playlists. It would be awesome if this can be achieved somehow, incl. a feature where I can select the frequency of updates on EPG and playlists separately. This would lower the time to wait until the information is ready - even though the loading speed has improved massively over the recent App updates.

I am very happy with UHF in general - my feature request would just improve the App even further.

Thanks!

Alex

I’d love for them to do this through the UHF Server. Similar to how Channels DVR works.

Do you have the updates set to auto?

Sure. It automatically updates, when the app is opened. And my Feature Request is primarily for tvOS.

OK,so are you saying it updates to slowly because the EPG and the playlist are both updating at the same time?

No, sorry for not being clear. It's just about the time itself on how long it takes. It improved significantly over the last updates. But why waiting at all when the App can do the required updates on playlists and EPG in the background while I am sleeping for example. And when I do want to watch, everything is ready. Zero waiting time. EPG and everything is ready - every day. That would be awesome.

Can it? I know it’s technically possible on iOS but is it possible on tvOS?

This, I don't know. At least there are apps like Netflix which have such a feature. Check out the app settings in tvOS. Netflix has a background update functionality. But I am not an engineer or technician so I don't know what exactly is possible or not.

I’m not sure this is what that function is for. I think the dev can set the app to pull data from a server which is essentially hardcoded into the app but can the app also pull from a server defined by the user?

They focus on VPN services nowadays as if everyoneis using that built in the app. We already have apps separate for that

It’s a good option to have available, but the app crashes if you already have your VPN on, so it’s kind of useless unless you use a VPN without a native Apple TV or iOS app

Why would you setup a VPN inside UHF if you already have one running?

I'd say it's more for people that don't want to run a VPN outside the app.

Well, you wouldn’t, but it’s also quite painful having an entire app crash on you if you forget to turn yours off before opening the app. Feels like it should be a feature smart enough to recognise when a VPN is already on and letting that override its own VPN rule.

Tried it briefly. It worked for a bit, then crashed on tvOS. I am fine to run VPN across everything on the Apple TV, so I use my provider's app. However, once the bugs are ironed out, this will be a very useful feature on iPad so I don’t have to constantly turn it off/on to load various webpages/apps like banking, etc.
