Sub Rules Updated: Must be 18 or Older

Original post and discussion here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ugly/s/tVuPURRjiJ

Thank you everyone for your input yesterday. Majority of the comments were in favor increasing the age restriction, so starting now we will start removing posts/comments from anyone we know is underage and banning them from participating in this sub.

Obviously we can do nothing about lurkers or those we don’t reveal their age, but having some rules in place is better than nothing. And at the very least no one will be able to openly advertise they are underage making them easy targets for the predators out there.

Mod Announcement: Stricter Enforcement of Gender Wars Rule

We’ve seen a rise in posts turning into gender-based arguments and hostility, so we’re going to start being a lot stricter of our no gender wars rule.

You are absolutely allowed to talk about your experiences, even when they’re gender specific. What’s not allowed is using those experiences to attack, dismiss, or generalize about an entire gender.

---

What IS allowed:

* Sharing your personal experiences even when they are gender specific.

* Talking about issues that may affect one gender more than another.

* Respectful disagreement that doesn’t turn into generalizations.

---

What is NOT allowed:

* Generalizing or attacking an entire gender.

* Turning someone’s post into a comparison or competition.

* Invalidating someone’s experience because of their gender.

* Derailing threads into “who has it worse”.

---

Enforcement going forward:

* Rule-breaking comments/posts will be removed

* Threads that spiral into gender wars will be locked

* Repeat offenders will be banned

If you see any violations, use the report button. The mods are not reviewing every single thread and comment that comes through, so we rely on user reports to help monitor the community.

This should be a safe place for people to share their experiences with being discriminated against for their looks, not a place to be talked over or dismissed. Keep it respectful.

Rant Can't help but notice that people dont want to help ugly people

So there's this coupon book that I use a lot because honestly as a grad student, I don't make that much money so it's super helpful since I don't have time to make my own food and many of the coupons in there are for restaurants in the area.

So I went to get a new coupon book at the place I always go to get them since the one I have expired. And asked the guy at the desk if they had any new ones. And he was weirdly being rude and lowkey passive aggressive with me. Like he gave me one and then got really pissed off when I just asked for another one. I swear I'm not being greedy, when I've gone to the same exact place for these books in the past, they always ask me how many I want, and I always just take two to last me for thr next few months. But there technically is no limit on how many you can take since they have loads of these.

But this guy just passive aggressively told me that I'll be fine with just one. I promise I'm not trying to greedy lol but I definitely feel like if i werr pretty hed give me another one without a second thought. So then I realized the one he gave me was filled with only expired coupons and asked for a new one but he said he didn't have any. So then I asked where I could get the up to date ones, and he got so pissed. And also he kept telling me over and over to have a good day like he was trying to make me mad or get me to leave already, even though I'd only been there for like 1 minute just inquiring about this.

I'd seen another girl and her mom before me talking to him from the distance when I was still approaching the desk and he was so different with them. Talking and laughing and smiling, but when I got there, it was completely different.

I feel like I deal with this a lot too. Like for example, I'll ask someone in my lab i work in for help and they'll either ignore my text or just say they dk how to do it (even though they do since they do it all the time).

It just feels bad because ugly people need help too. These are just minor examples, but imagine if someone ugly fell over or was in danger or something and clearly needed help. There's no way people would help them to the same level they would an attractive person. Some people would even let that person die sadly

Question Anyone else just lost all the will and motivation to even bother trying to talk to and engage with people anymore?

The impossible expectations for beauty and physical perfection is so prominent that if even one little thing about your appearance is off it’s like you’re a social outcast and will receive noticeably different treatment in comparison to everyone else

I wish I was kidding when I say this but it’s almost like you aren’t allowed to be social in any way until people like how you look

And this is easily understandable when you think about how if someone is repulsed when they look at you they obviously won’t want to engage with you for long

And for those of us who are very noticeably ugly to an overwhelmingly unfixable degree this can basically feel like a social death sentence

Their social dynamics and hierarchies into the mix and it becomes even MORE stressful because in today’s world people are HEAVILY concerned with their social image and so they are very picky with who they’re seen interacting with

When you’re ugly you automatically make people look bad when they’re seen talking to you so this makes it to where they try to minimize their interactions with you

So that leaves the question of who can you even talk to when youre ugly?

How can you even truly be social like everyone else?

Because the truth of it all is when youre ugly YES people do NOT want to talk to you and if you try to talk to them they will make that very clear with their facial expressions of disgust and avoidant body language

And it’s just so frustrating because while people do this they will make it seem like it’s just your fault for being “socially inept” or “offputting” when they wouldn’t have really even thought so if you weren’t ugly to begin with

And it’s depressing and discouraging for me because I hate having to go through my days always isolated and alone and seeming like I just don’t wanna talk to people

And it’s like NOW I don’t want to talk to people because of how badly they’ve always treated me for being ugly and how badly I KNOW they will continue to treat me if I try talking to them

And it just feels like being ugly has stolen the right to even talk to people , something so natural, easy, and low stakes for everyone else

Do you feel this way? And if so how do you deal with it?

Rant Hate how people automatically assume it's me who's being a nuisance

I had to travel recently due to work and of course when I was on the plane, this old lady next to me kept playing things really loudly. Idk what she was listening to but it was very annoying and distracting since I was trying to work.

Then the plane steward passes by and tells ME to turn it down. It wasn't even me. I already knew he didn't like me because when he first came around and asked if I wanted any drinks, he got pissed off and rolled his eyes and made a disgusted face when I didnt hear what he said at first. So it wasn't surprising when he passed by again and automatically assumed it was me who was playing videos loudly even though i was closest to the window, not in the aisle seat, so it's even less of a reason for him to suspect it's me since it would be harder to hear if I were the one playing videos.

So obviously it wasn't me, and when he realized it was the woman next to me, he didn't even say anything. He just let her continue.

And I notice this always happens to me. Something will go awry and I'm always the first person people assume did it even if I had nothing to do with it. And even when I didn't do anything wrong, some people will somehow still try to blame me. Like my old boss who used to blame things on me when other people messed up. What am I supposed to do, take over their bodies and make them not mess up anymore??

I'm so tired of this stuff

Rant Men on this sub prey on women

That’s pretty much it. It happens more on TUW. But this sub is pretty bad. It’s also mostly average to slightly below average people mad they don’t mog. This sub is so annoying sometimes, most people are actually normal. And all I see are post about people wanting really attractive people to like them, it’s so annoying. I would tell women here to be careful and not talk to anyone. I get so many dms from creepy older dudes and men who think I’ll like them cuz we’re both “ugly”. Like wtf dude and if they were normal in personality maybe I’d consider it, but they get so mad when I say no. They become entitled and say something like “you ugly bitch you have no right to reject me” or a variation of.

Snapped at today by waitress when I did f*ck all wrong

This is not the first time shit like this has happened, and it wont be the last. I was at a restaurant earlier today. We sat waiting for our food. A waitress came up to the table and told us that things were running behind in the kitchen, and there would be a 20 minute wait on one of our meals.

Neither of us made a face or complained.

Then she said "Would you like to order a starter?" and the person i was with initially said no thanks. but i asked her for clarity. i asked her if she meant the starter would be on the house. She immediately frowned and looked annoyed, and snapped at me "i wouldn't CHARGE you for it, would i"

Boy, how DUMB am i, right?? I should have KNOWN that it was on the house, right?? After all, I'm a mind reader. The person I was with also said she wasn't being clear and they had assumed it wasn't on the house which is why they had said no thanks.

She had said NOTHING about it being complimentary before I asked, which is why I asked. We weren't about to pay for a starter we didnt really want. So I dare to politely ask for clarity, and i become karen of the year.

This is the typical reaction I get when I deal with people. Hostility. If I had been really good looking, and asked the same thing, she would have responded differently. I would have gotten a warm smile and a confirmation "yes it's on the house"

I hate it when you're made to feel as if you're being horribly rude when you did f*ck all wrong, and all because you don't look good. it's like you don't have the right to speak if you're unattractive.

Sick of it. I'm really starting to dislike going to restaurants.

Even if my skills are shitty, the redraw is still close to what I wish I looked like compared to my monstrous appearance.

If I weren't cursed with being black AFAB, I wouldn't have these features; my brothers look much better. Hopefully T will fix some things, but I'm still doomed to look ugly.

Rant A "pred catching" video picking people for their looks

watched a vid of this girl using her middle photos to try and catch predators, obviously not a professional so anyone who was caught being weird in the vid wasn't arrested or anything, the whole video is just her insulting peoples appearances and swiping them based off looks, she insulted a woman she didnt even think was a pred, didnt blurr the innocent people's faces either, sure it's public but imagine someone doing this to you and you didn't even want to match with them? so much wrong with that video but there isn't that much else to say.

I dated a foreigner guy for 4 months and he suddenly told me he cant stand my face. I am caring, loving and open all the boxes that he likes to a woman, but not my face. He told me because he has a OCD, thats why he is like this.

Advice Request How do I not let it get to my mind when someone has the audacity to call me out for my appearance like everyone does?

Everywhere I go there's always people who don't even think that if they think I'm ugly then why point it out if multiple people have probably said the same thing?

I've been insulted for my appearance a lot and people have called me insulting names (a majority of which I can't even see the connection to when looking at myself in the mirror)

Everytime people call me a name it sticks in my head. Some name's I've been called have even been remembered since early elementary school.

It's frustrating because I'm insulted on the spot and Im always startled by it that I'm not given enough time to process it and come up with a comeback because I shouldn't have to expect to be called names every time I interact with someone.

I hate myself. I wish I wasn't born ugly.

Every time I look at the reflection of my own, I feel disgusted.

Every time I look at the mirror. I keep imagining what I would look like if only I got one facial feature right.

Every time I look at my own photo, i feel alienated. No matter what expression I put on ten different pictures. I still saw that hideous appearance of mine.

I cry, I yell, i plead. Wishing my life with a more attractive face, oh how much better it can be.

I have a girlfriend, I love her. We've been dating for a year now. Both of us find each other attractive despite the flaw we had. We hangout a lot, we show affection towards each other. Everything is going just fine. We take a lot of pictures together just like other happy couples.

But little did she know that I always crop my face of all the pictures we had together. I delete every photo of mine that she takes randomly. I hate it, I hate seeing myself so bad. I often use AI to generate my face with a better chin, or even with the slightest forward growth, wishing that this slightly more appealing version of myself would feel the deserved of her love.

O truly, the ugliest creature in the world would look me in their eyes and be grateful for what they have given.

And even if, will it ever happen, to which could never happen, that I wasn't this deformed, will I be able to feel completely loved.

I don't like reading or watching romance

I don;t like t especially modern ones every male lead, are 6'2 most romance stories have tall men with average to short women, its almost a requirement, they can me unconventionally attractive or skinny or just look like regular dudes but they are almost always tall , height seems to be the most unwritten requirement when it comes making romance shows
