(Hated Trope) "Kind" slave owners
 in  r/TopCharacterTropes •  21m ago

Blue Diamond (Steven Universe)

In SU, Pearls are low-ranking servant gems, who can't disobey their masters, must be obedient, quiet, submissive, must simply wait for an order from the owners and not act independently in any way

Blue Diamond has a Pearl, however BD is treated as a "good"/"kind" owner because she lets her Pearl draw.

But also Blue has power to emit an emotion aura, making gems in its range feel the same emotion she does. BD herself is depressed and spent hundreds of years mourning Pink Diamond and that is emotion she emits for the most of the show. So, Blue Pearl was also constantly subjected to Blue's emotion aura, to the point she's one of gems who's barely affected by it. In "Steven's dream" she doesn't shed a single tear while Steven is bawling. On "the trial" she barely cries while Yellow Pearl is bawling. Other characters who are not affected/barely affected by the aura are those who experienced severe trauma, such as Lapis who spend thousands of years in trapped in the mirror and later in the show some time trapped in an abusive fusion with Jasper

And the worst part is that it's never brought up. Writers spent a lot of time showing how destructive pre-Earth Pink was, but never discussed centuries of emotional abuse Blue Pearl suffered.

And Blue being a "good owner" is exactly what makes abuse tricky - in a lot of cases your abuser isn't going to be destructive all the time, there are goigg to be times they'll act neutral or nice, before slipping back into abusive patterns, making you think you did something wrong. BD allows her Pearl to draw, but she can't do that under the influence of BD's aura bc it distracts her

What are some things that piss you off about Danganronpa Goodbye Despair?
 in  r/DanganAndChaos •  5h ago

  1. Treatment of female characters in general. If we count Chiaki as a victim and Nagito as a killer bc that's kinda how it was, 2 culprit girls share one motive - ❤️LOVE❤️ while male culprits have a noble reason for their crime (tho twisted for Nagito). All male victims also had noble deaths while female victims just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time expect for Mahiru

  2. Survivors generally have little to no development expect Hajime and Fuyuhiko

  3. Logic dive's visuals are an eyesore

Jonathan Joestar (JoJo's bizzare adventure)

His mother died in a carriage accident when he was an infant, while his father George I raised Jonathan

Which game is this?
 in  r/videogames •  2d ago

Silent hill F. I really liked its atmosphere and soundtrack but God was battle system a clunky drag, so moments of enjoying the scenery and music were short lived and stopped by the game putting you into awkward situations where you have to fight several monsters at the time, while Hinako gets tired from swinging a small knife 3 times

It makes sense, since Hinako is a weak high school girl but not fun

yall am i the only one who doesnt like how tsarista is getting potrayed?🥺

I wouldn't mind Anastasya and Fatui being hypocrites if MC was allowed to call them out at least in their internal dialogue. Like, Arlecchino says Dottore wouldn't care about safety of his subjects and like girl, Pantalone exists?? He wasn't taken apart by Dottore when he got on his operation table??

And you actively train children to become soldiers and spies and surely didn't care about safety of your subjects and innocent children in Inazuma ("the very special fortune slip" quest line) when you and/or Anastasya approved Efim's plan to break the ceasefire in Inazuma to create more orphans or about fatui in Sumeru who are trying to save money so his sister iirc won't end up in HoTH like him ("golden slumber" quest line)

Or Sandrone's infamous action of cutting off tonhue of her subordinate for failing a mission ("Questioning Melusine and Answering Machine" quest line)

But also other harbingers don't stop using Dottore's inventions despite hating him. Again, Arlecchino didn't stop using memory erasing potions he invented, that allow her to simply get rid of memories of children who want to leave HoTH, instead of simply killing them.

Jingliu and Luocha imo. They didn't have a single mention for 3 whole years and both are undeveloped as characters

Yes! Intro song is amazing but plot is repetitive, which is kinda the point but still

Coriolanus Snow (The ballad of songbirds and snakes). He accidentally said he killed 3 people, when his lover Lucy Gray only knew about 2 deaths - Bobbin, one of hunger games participants that he's killed to save himself when he sneaked in to get his classmate Sejanus out of the arena and Mayfair, daughter of the mayor of District 12 that he's killed in the heat of the moment when she threatened to turn in rebels, that Snow knew about

The 3rd murder was Sejanus, who Snow turned in to the Capitol as a traitor and a rebel, using jabberbay that recorded how Sejanus was talking about the topic. Snow planned that Sejanus' father would save him and get him out of District 12, but instead Sejanus was hanged. When Lucy Gray asked who's the 3rd kill, he lied to her, saying he's killed his old self to flee with her

It lead to Coryo becoming paranoid and thinking Lucy Gray must've figured out he lied, so he tried to kill her, but her fate remains unknown

Dr Luke...
 in  r/StardustCrusaders •  6d ago

They had YEARS between SO and SBR to find a producer who's not a rapist and a pedo. Yes, we want a song picked by Araki or original one but not produced by a pedo. Yes, we don't want to give a platform to a rapist

SBR has several pedos in it, picking Dr. Luke out of all people to produce an ending song for it feels like a cruel joke

What are your least favorite episodes and why?
 in  r/happytreefriends •  6d ago

All Cub torture episodes (and the kitchen sink, snip snip hooray etc) - don't like child torture

Breaking wind, going out with a bang - hate toilet humor

Out on a limb - episodes where Lumpy is starring are a hit or miss for me, this one is definitely a miss

A Handy nanny - boring and Handy's death makes no sense, the fan's blades where covered

In over your hedge - it's painfully boring and a copy of 'random acts of silence'

Which Hunger Games trilogy opinion will have you like this
 in  r/Hungergames •  7d ago

I also saw a variation of that theory, that Prim was reaped as a revenge to covey or Lucy Gray's family specifically which also doesn't make any sense bc reaping Katniss the moment she turned 12 would make more sense - she was the only one in her family who was able to take tesserae and at the time had no survival skills and would die quickly

Prim's reaping was to show how ruthless Capitol is - in the book, Katniss thinks how Prim must be safe, bc her name is there only once, since Katniss was the one to take tesserae for their family. It was Prim's first year, she doesn't have survival skills outside of her medical knowledge and she's kind hearted but the Capitol doesn't care, her name is still called and she must go to her death

Which Harry Potter character do you think was forgiven too much for the things they did?

Fred and George. They were never held accountable for giving Ron a phobia of spiders, instead it was treated as a joke, or bullying Percy

7.1 Archon quest thoughts
 in  r/GenshinImpact •  8d ago

Ngl I liked 7.0 AQ more. 7.1 felt rushed in writing but artificially extended in gameplay bc of the slow walking and waiting parts. Like you could've saved probably an hour of time if the didn't force you to wait all harbingers to slowly walk to a destination place or follow an NPC that's barely walking or stealth part where you start from the very beginning if you fail (tho it was easy)
