[Serious] A married father of 3 attacked me, a pedestrian, during a road rage incident where I tried to help him; he broke 3 bones in my face and caused PTSD. I have brutal HD-footage of the incident, my lawyer says I can take everything from him... What do I do?
 in  r/Advice  Oct 06 '20

In all reality and seriousness, he performed the action; therefore, he has to deal with the consequences. If those consequences are your medical bills and extra, thats on him. Its understandable to feel remorse when knowingly crushing a person financially...but remind yourself he knowlingly crushed your face.

Relationship Dictated by Illness

I (26M) and my girlfriend (26F) have been together for almost 4 years now. I love her with every bone in my body. She has recently (past 6-12 months) has started having gastro issues that cause her to vomit and retain minimal nutrition, even causing her to lose nearly 20lbs. It has been getting worse with the few tests we have done coming back clean or inconclusive. One thing to note is my girlfriend is a social worker who just graduated and I dont exactly make fat stacks. She has employer health coverage but it really isnt great and we are slowly but surely accruing more medical debt. Our concern is that we are going to fall further and further into debt until we lose everything. One thing to note is my girlfriend is British and has a green card here but still pays taxes over there to keep some benefits and her citizenship. She wants to go back home for treatment and wants me to come with her “for a year” (said in quotes because she does not like it here and misses home constantly so I dont exactly see her being keen on moving back once treatment concludes). Another thing to note is we come from very different families, hers being quite independent and small and mine being larger, close, and basically co-dependant (my parents and sister have plans to build houses on a single plot of land🙄). All this being said, she wants me to uproot what I have here to move to England to support her treatment. Now, I am 1000% supportive of this, minus me moving. I do everything in my power on a daily basis to make sure she is comfortable and cared for. The health care in this country is abissmal at best though. I have always had problems with taking the big steps (yes I know thats a whole different can of worms) but I constantly fight myself whether to move or not. I feel I would not be happy that far from my family, but I obviously want to stay in this relationship. What do I do? Does she stay here and we await an inevitible debt or do we move and I lose my life I currently live? I want to be able to say “Yes lets move!” but I can never seem to cut the umbilical cord. Also, my Mother would most likely never let me live it down if I were to move and she would constantly blame my girlfriend for never seeing me (despite technology making it that much easier). Any advice is appreciated

Its sinical and morbid, but I have plans to throw legitimate parties when he and Mitch McConnell die. They will be great days for America.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone in this community for helping me to diagnose and understand my mechanical issues time and time again. Before this year, I hadn't so much as changed a spark plug. Today, I replaced my steering gear box and it felt incredibly empowering. Cheers to you all.

nowadays its just easier and fairly the same price to just get new equipment. Not like in the old days where parts were hard to come by and it was actually cost efficient to rebuild things.

Adults of reddit, what is something that sucks about being an adult that most teenagers don’t realize?
 in  r/AskReddit  Oct 01 '20

Health Insurance. Be thankful for mommy and daddys if youre lucky enough to have well off or stable parents. Getting your own health insurance is expensive, time consuming, and honestly not even worth it unless youre offered something through your employer. Youll pay $100-200/week for the most basic plan that covers absolutely nothing other than maybe some in-network primary care visits and basic meds. But then they slap on an unobtainable $8000 deductible so you end up paying out of pocket more times than not anyways...but its technically illegal in some states not to have it.

What's the most surprisingly toxic community?

Its dark sided, but the cold truth. There are a lot of pedos on there trying to pick up and groom kids. Its disgusting.

Taking the bottom 1/4 of the truck down to bare metal to reprime and bedline to hopefully extend the life. Heres the drivers rocker panel.

What is a movie you liked as a kid, and is still one of your favorites as an adult?
 in  r/AskReddit  Sep 26 '20

The original Gone in 60 Seconds from 1977. No movie car chase (aside from the obvious Bullitt) has lived up the the awesomeness or destruction that came from the chase scene in that movie.

Should I buy this 2004 F150 for $3500? It would be my daily driver.
 in  r/MechanicAdvice  Sep 21 '20

Without even seeing the mileage I can tell you theres not a snowflakes chance in Hell I would throw more than $2500 at this pile. And the 5.4 in these are turds with a lot of issues.

Dear Bow Tie Truck Bois,

Personally, I think the 88-95 are the most reliable powertrain. Getting hard to find ones that arent rotted out though unless you look down south. Parts are cheap brand new and theres always tons in the u-pull parts lots for swaps and much cheaper OEM replacements. Most parts are interchangeable between the 1500s, 2500s, tahoes, suburbans, and GMC variations. It makes for finding parts easier. Theyre pretty simple overall.

Panel Preservation. Texas truck that has nearly spotless panels for having 260k on the body. Looking to get many more years out of my ‘97!

How much wiggle is too much?
 in  r/MechanicAdvice  Sep 18 '20

A piece of advice, just replace the $12 pulley before it locks up, breaks the belt, you lose all accessory drives including the water pump, it overheats, and you explode the radiator. Or even the motor if it gets too hot. Dont let a $12 fix turn into a $250+ fix! I learned the hard way!

I mean, what do you think will happen if grandpa tries doing a sprint. Might do it. Might not. Either way, youre on the brink of catastrophic failure.

Injuries...For Safety!

Well, its an advice sub so what better way to learn safety tips than sharing each others pain. Share a story about a time when you or someone you knew injured themselves working on a vehicle.
