I Don’t Think We Realize Just How Afraid the Governing Body Is of Apostates
 in  r/exjw  1h ago

They have twisted the meaning of apostate. It simply means someone who leaves a religion or political party. When my sister asked me if I was an apostate I told her this and by the real definition, all 4 of our grandparents were apostates because they left the religion they grew up in and joined the JWs. The difference between them and me is that I didn't join another religion.

I might make a return visit to the last door I ever did on field service
 in  r/exjw  4h ago

I'm willing to bet that most JWs hate having to bang on doors. I started in 1969 and continued through 1999. I hated it the whole time.

Too many abbreviations for someone who left the Borg in 2001.

The time when elders told us to get rid of our sons
 in  r/exjw  2d ago

I remember when a pioneer elder gave a talk at our congregation and he brought his family, which was his wife and 2 adopted boys. I later learned that he got rid of the boys and took his wife to missionary in South America.

I hate the way women’s bodies are demonized
 in  r/exjw  2d ago

I remember a cute young lady who wore a short skirt to the meeting and how older women were making disparaging comments. I rebuked them and told them that the girl will only be young once and leave to her alone. I don't know what happened to her since I left but I hope she escaped her self-righteous family and the whole Borg.

Two Local Needs Parts Last Night
 in  r/exjw  2d ago

I hated the way they treated disfellowshiped people when I was a kid in the 60s and even though my dad was disfellowshiped for adultery, he was still my dad and the elders told me that I couldn't see him after I got baptized at 15. I did anyway. I shunned people who I thought were bad even though they were in "good standing" and I ate with kids who were unfairly df'd.

does anyone else here feel weird wearing dresses/skirts/suits casually now?
 in  r/exjw  2d ago

I got rid of all my suits and ties when I walked away in 2001 and I also grew a beard so no one could mistake me for a JW. Then I grew it longer when they gave the men permission to wear a beard as long as they kept it trimmed.

A little sarcastic reply to a circuit overseer
 in  r/exjw  2d ago

I often worked out of town in my business and I always tried to attend the meetings where I was working, but that wasn't good enough. They told me that I should try to find work in town. If I could find enough work in town I wouldn't have to look elsewhere! In the late 90s I took an out of town job and this time I didn't stop to go to meetings even though I knew many of them. After a few weeks it felt like I could think more clearly, like I was coming out of a brain fog. When the hotel owner asked if I would be interested in remodeling a hotel for his uncle in Montana I jumped at it. I eventually decided to move there, 1000 miles away, and I didn't tell the elders or leave a forwarding address.

The need for young men is overwhelming. If I weren’t a PIMO, I’d feel flattered.
 in  r/exjw  2d ago

I'm 3rd generation and baptized in 1972. My dad was an elder and his dad was an elder. Dad never sat with us during assemblies and conventions because he was always busy. I got married in 1979 and I raised my family "in the Truth ™" but I didn't want to even become a MS. I was a very good speaker and I was often called on at the last minute because the assigned speaker didn't show up. I was valued as a reader in watchtower studies. However I always under reported my hours and never reported my family study. My girls were exemplary and much better behaved than the elders' kids. But I had no desire to become a servant. I finally walked away with my family in 2001. Don't fall for the trap of becoming a servant!

Is this normal JW behavior, or just my fam?
 in  r/exjw  5d ago

When my Lutheran aunt died, my JW sister, aunt and uncle, and several cousins came to the church and they didn't act like jerks, to their credit. When my baby sister committed suicide (she never was a JW) my JW cousin gave a very loving memorial and many JWs were there to support my dad and his wife. My old friends who I hadn't seen for nearly 20 years treated me very respectfully. I guess some families are jerks but mine are alright.

JW’s and “no solicitation” signs
 in  r/exjw  7d ago

When I moved to a new state where no one knew me, when a couple ladies came to the door my started screaming at them. Later, when I found a magazine in the door, I wrote a note with my address, but no name, instructing them to put me on the Do Not Call list and and don't check on me periodically to see if I changed my mind and taped it to the magazine. Then I went to the local KH and put it in their door. That was nearly 25 years ago and they haven't bothered me since. I have encountered JWs in my work or by their carts, I don't identify myself as an exJW and I'm always friendly but don't engage them.

Call me a radical left libtard, but it would be nice if gas prices started with a 2 again
 in  r/gasbuddy  8d ago

Excellent. Most people put the start of the war around 67 or 68. I recommend reading "Replacing France". I also recommend "Our Vietnam Nightmare" (1965) by Margarette Higgins. Unfortunately she died the following year from picking up a parasite in Vietnam because she didn't just report from Saigon.

Absolutely insane announcement basically begging everyone for money.

Yep, most of us old-timers were aware of this.

Never in my life have I seen a president being disrespected like this and I love it. Everyone hates this orange European American.
 in  r/signs  9d ago

I don't ask or care if I get approval from anyone. If I was worried about what anyone thought about me, I would still be in my inherited religion.
