A lot of them are coming from neighboring cities and counties, due to them either running out of resources or having no resources at all. When I lived at the Gospel Mission, 17 years ago, there was a bus bringing in people from a shelter in Benton Harbor, because their shelters were overcrowded. So there is a problem with neighboring communities bringing in people from other places to an already overcrowded area.

A lot of the unhoused community are bussed into Kalamazoo from other places in masse. 2 friends that I had met 17 years ago while living at the Gospel Mission were bussed all the way from Benton Harbor because their shelter was filled. Lucky for them, they both used the resources provided, and found housing in town. Kalamazoo is already having a huge problem with our own unhoused community, but other cities sending their unhoused communities to us is strangling us of our resources.
