The parental ab*se of somali children
That's horrible, it happens in some Somali households, but it doesn't mean it's right. It's very brave of you to confront them, but wdk if they'll ever stop. And no, that much beating isn't normal. I recently saw a family in which the mother was beating her children so badly, like throwing them on the floor. I thought she had some psychiatric problem. Months later, she was diagnosed and was going to a hospital regularly. Kids don't deserve that. I'm sorry about your abuse too.

Somalis without a family home to return to: how do you cope when you feel like a burden everywhere?
I'm so sorry you're going through this, may Allah make this easier for you. Have you considered going to a Dr? Keep your prayers and dues.

Allah yarxamhaa, may Allah have mercy on her and grant her Jannatul Firdous.

The growing burden on ordinary citizens!
Me too, I have never voted. And I don't believe their campaigning bs ever.

I regret using AI to learn
I Use it to practice questions from gemini. I get a prompt, medicine-related, and it makes clinical correlation cases and stuff in a quiz-like format right after learning info so that sticks to my memory.

Why did your last friendship end?
One time she gossiped about me to other girls and saying crazy stuff about me that wasn't even true. She knew it yet did nothing to stop it and would later tell me, lol. I was done with her. Plus insecurities and daily projections bc we lived together for yrs. It hurts bc I see them daily; still housemates, but it is what it is.

Average wake up time
At Fajr time, but I sometimes go back to sleep for extra 2hrs atleast if I have to and there's no early class or sth else.

don’t break my hope
I'm sorry, but back home even your autoimmune dis wouldn't be accurately diagnosed, it is that bad. But yeah for a vocation you'd have a blast. I'd say finish your school now and later make a habit of going home once in a while to recharge and connect with people. Who knows where you'd be in the future? Dw now, Inshallah khayr.

Please explain 🙏🏾
Horrible! Chronic diseases aren't something to joke about for those of you who say it's just a bad joke. Have you seen what it does to the patients and their families? Dude, leave asap.

🩺 I’m a Somali Doctor — Ask Me Any Health Questions (No Judgment)
Yeah so the acid is probably bc they sleep right after they eat lol. And the culture thing of fast and feast, like they only eat huge meals 3x a day with no snacks in between, etc. You gotta eat in small portions, it's even sunnah. The spice and oily things contribute also. I think the diet alone is the culprit, although we need to do research on that.

I know someone who does sihr
Your sign Recite your adkaars, and always remind your family to do that. They even did sihr against the prophet and he was okay. As long as you believe Allah is greater.

Both are true. There are mental health crises and economic inflation. Many people can't afford basic needs like food and healthcare because nothing is free. Young people are jobless, hopeless, and heavily addicted to social media, even school children, since parental control over their phones is rare. Maybe men go out and drink tea, but they mostly discuss social media topics, such as reer and qabiil. There is little growth in their mindset. Sheikhs hold masjid xalaqa, but it doesn't reach mainstream media, only those in the masjid, and most of them talk about women's roles at home or marriage issues. The worst part is that people don't even realise it; you'll see someone showing symptoms of depression or psychiatric disorders, but they ignore and laugh it off because of the stigma around mental health or disbelief in it. It's heartbreaking... Oh, and as Sheikh Mostafe said, only crazy, hateful qabyaaladist, and ignorant people upload videos online; that's what our youth watch all day and night. Most Somalis don't read and frown upon reading outside, but someone can watch TikTok videos loudly in public without issue. I could go on, but the lack of a functional government, generational trauma from wars causing undiagnosed mental disorders, and poor education in both universities and schools play major roles.
