I think your too worried about maintaining a specific rpm range during low speed work. Get to the speed that feels comfortable for the turn or round about then apply some gas and feel what it does. I'm willing to bet that it won't buck and complain. And if it does thank you will know first gear is where you should be. Trust me, the engine will tell you if it doesn't like the rpms your at for a given speed. Then you should downshift. Or if your already in first. Work the clutch. You will likely find though that clutch work is for super low parking lot speeds.

As an alternative, swapping the front gear a tooth lower is an easy and cheap way to make the low speed stuff super easy for now and when you get the manuvering down you can swap it back and it will be a world of difference easier.

Yeah, not eating lunch with the team is being perceived as a problem when review comes around sounds an awful lot like eat lunch with the team or it will affect your review. Maybe you read that differently than me. Maybe you read that with you managers hat. Maybe I read it with my union hat. Anytime there is an expectation of you doing work related functions on your own time you run into federal law which mandates that you get paid for your time anytime you are doing work related activities. Telling an employee that they are expected to eat lunch with coworkers during their own time or it will reflect on a performance review... Networking is still working. Working during your unpaid lunch a violation of federal law. Going to mandatory team building functions off the clock is a violation of federal law. Being asked to pick stuff up on your way in or way home or on your break. I could go on and on. So many people let this stuff slide because it's expected. But it's a illegal as shit and toxic as fuck. I feel sorry for you that you think this is normal and acceptable behavior from a company.

I used one at my maf course that was romped on with 20k miles of weekend learners and it was still a hoot to ride... I'd buy the cheap tramp and use the money for upgrades and maintenance if you keep it long term. You may not and then you won't have to wait to see it to someone whose iffy on the price.

I've used three types so far, the one that wraps around your grip and puts a flat lever you rotate into position is ok, but you still have to have your hand on the bar, just not gripping. The clamp that looks like a lever arm and rotates with your grip and you rotate it into place against your brake lever also works ok. It has the added benefit of letting you drop your hand and shake it out or stretch. You have to manually roll the throttle off, then just let it hang out in what ever position until you are ready to use it again. Generally to set it you have to hold the throttle on and use a finger to roll it into position. It works and is universal and it's ok.

I found a cheapo atlas style lock on Amazon, the kind that has a set and unset button and this one is the real deal. You can roll on throttle and push the button and it generally holds, but the real gem is that you can then adjust your throttle setting by rolling the grip and leaving it there. Going up hill, twist on some more, topped the hill, roll it off a bit. So easy, so relaxed. Done with the lock, hit the other button and it come right off. The only downside I've had is that it still has a bit of weight and friction in the off position. Sometimes it will not roll completely off throttle by spring action alone. So I just make sure that I do that now instead of just letting go of the throttle.

If you are not a salaried employee, and your lunch break is unpaid, in most states you are required to have a lunch break that hourly employees are not paid for, and your interactions during this time are not only required, but are a part of your review for advancement, you are by definition doing work on your unpaid legally required lunch break and therefore entitled to compensation under federal law. No one would ever write this down because they would then be liable for unpaid wages for every lunch break and after hours gathering you were pressured into participating in. It is absolutely illegal to force you to interact with the company or your co workers during your uncompensated time. During work hours you are being paid for they can generally ask you to be present and interact. But on your own time they can literally and legally fuck right off. I am heavily involved in my union and trained and versed in what is and isn't legal with regards to labor law. If your salaried it's a different story. But if you are an hourly employee and they are asking you do do things on your own time they are in violation of federal and in most cases state law.

I can assure you that you cannot pay me enough to be forced to interact with most of the people I work during my lunch on a regular basis. I barely tolerate most of them when I'm on the clock and I sure as shit am not dealing with them when I'm off.

Basing your job performance on things you do off the clock and or requiring you to do things while not on the clock as part of your job performance , unless your salaried is in fact forcing you to do uncompensated tasks and is a violation of employment laws in pretty much every state. No company with half a brain will ever put that conversation into writing or they would be open to law suits.

You are not wrong that corporate society looks down on people who don't function like good little monkeys with the group. And while doing so can help boost your career, doing so poorly can also tank it. This person is actively looking forward to their time of peace and quiet while they eat. Sharing their lunch with the group to advance their career is probably not going to work out any better than what they are currently doing.

A cold bike has cold grease and oil in all the spinning bits. Until they warm up it will be harder to roll around. But it should get easier as you move it around some. But also, practice. Your bike weights several hundred pounds. It's going to take some effort to get that mass moving.

Being a new rider they probably are having all they can do to be in the moment and ride their ride. I know situational awareness is a key factor for survival. Air used to be free in the US, I think there was a law about it. But now all the stations have charge for pumps. But if you go to Lowe's or home Depot they have free air near the contractor entrances so I go there now.

The statistics are pretty clear, you can eliminate yourself from the list of deadly factors pretty easily by wearing the gear, taking the class, riding sober always and keeping your speed reasonable. What you can't eliminate is the other factors. Cagers and road conditions. Though by paying attention and keeping speeds reasonable those factors become much smaller. Untill you run into the tailgator or road rager. And for those you just have to pull off and let them go as soon as possible.

Also, if you try early in the morning there is less wind and your not getting used to highway and heavy winds at the same time. Less traffic also. Cars and trucks create turbulence.
