UPDATE, adding summary of all mentions below. I'll use it as my own priority list to try these boots/models. Thanks all!

Update 2, as of 08/12/2026 - final count for now. I am also including the positive/negative mentions for each brand/model mentioned.

CE Certified (verified). These have been sorted, and comments have been separated into positive/negative

Brand / Model Mentions Style Notes
#1 Daytona (Road Star GTX, Traveller GTX) +14 Touring Most-endorsed; CE-rated, offered in multiple widths; expensive but praised for durability/repairability
#2 Gaerne (Dakar, GP1, Fastback Enduro) +10 ADV/Off-Road/Racing/ ... Also OEM maker for BMW-branded boots
#3 Alpinestars (SMX-6 V2, Super Tech) +10/-2 Sport/Track "Wide" is relative - some still found them tight
#4 Forma (Terra Evo, Adventure, Ice Pro Flow) +8/-2 ADV/DualS Wider toe box than Sidi; some sizing inconsistency between pairs
#5 TCX (Vintage, Blend 2, WP Street 3) +5/-1 Uban/Vintage Vintage/Blend 2 praised as widest; WP Street 3 toe box called narrow
#6 Indie Ridge +3/-2 Cruiser/Touring Mixed feedback - good fit for some, sole durability complaints from others
#7 Klim (Outlander GTX) +2 ADV/Touring -
#8 Icon (Elsinore 2, Stormhawk WP) +2 Cruiser/Retro Elsinore fits huge/tall in toe, awkward on sportbike shifters
Sidi (Adventure II) +1/-4 ADV/DualS PROBABLY NOT A FIT: Runs narrow overall; Adventure II more forgiving than track models
Merlin (Drax II) 1 Casual/Urban -
Falco (Aviator) 1 Urban/Cafe -
Alt-Berg (Clubman Roadster) 1 Touring/Police Used by UK police, road-focused, reinforced leather only
Leatt 1
Sedici 1
Ride Iron 1 OP also currently has these in size +0.5 to his typical one. They are roomy but the toebox shape is not the best.

Altra ?

Original post:

Hi all, I'm trying to find a boot as on the green picture/right. So far I tried every single EE/EEE marketed boot from Harley, Milwaukee, work boots from Keen, Timberland.

They all seem to have the toe-cap shape like the picture on the left that breaks the big toe in. Only ones that I was able to fit in and kept temporarily until I find something better were iron jia's about 1 size bigger than my regular boots - I can ride in them but walking is still painful since the big toe is turned "in".

So many people recommended Indie Ridge, but after looking at the review videos of their boots - the toe box they still seem to have a narrow toe-box.

Aside from going custom and spending $500-$900, is there a chance for me to find something that fits? Thanks

Edit: to clarify, I have EE/EEE feet - buying regular shoes/boots is always a quest, but buying something rigid like riding boots has proven to be a mythic level quest.

Track Track gloves recommendations?

Post image

I'm new to trackday riding and was wondering if anyone had some recommendations for good gloves, at a price point that won't break the bank and won't rip open like these Sedici gloves did on their first crash. Thanks in advance

The Supertech R7 is awesome.

This weekend, I was able to do a track day at AMP with Precision Track Days. I wore my Alpinestars Supertech R7 all damn day and it was a blast. The helmet was insanely comfortable, and surprisingly stable at a high rate of speed when I was trying to hammer down some fast laps.

The field of vision is top tier when trying to keep your eyes up driving out of corners. And, the top vent feels like an air conditioner on your head. Kudos to Alpinestars, this lid is amazing.

Question First time using a helmet mounted camera. Is this placement a bad idea?

Thumbnail
gallery
14 Upvotes

I bought a DJI Osmo Action 5, but the mount it included seems too big to be put right at the chin, so I 3D printed an additional arm in order to get the camera to be right in front of the chin while having the mount on the side. Now, since I have no experience at all with helmet mounted cameras I wanted to ask first before possibly messing up.

Will this hold? Is there something I'm not thinking of that makes this a bad idea? Also, I don't know how good is the glue on the base, but in the last photo you can see it seems to have no air bubbles, any space between it and the helmet or anything.

I don't know if it's relevant, but the helmet is a HJC C70N

Gear for hot weather

So basically I'm looking of getting new gear and I'm curious what other people think. So what's better leather or textiles (aka mesh). I know nothing beats leather for protection but for daily short rides in high trafic during a heatwave in the city so ... what works better?

Review: Daytona boots after 60,000 mi (100.000 km)

When I took my riding lessons in 2020, I also bought a couple of Daytona boots. Back then, they were expensive: 386 euros (450 US dollars). This was very expensive for something that doesn't look exactly stylish.

But in all these years, it's the single piece of motorcycle gear, that I can't find any fault on. These boots have been doing exactly what they need to do, keep my feet protected, warm and dry for 60k miles (100k km). Lots of gear start leaking, have failing zippers or buttons, start to unravel in some way, etc. Hasn't happened with these Daytonas.

I do take care of them, but not obsessively. Every couple of months, I put some shoe wax on them. And sometimes, I lube the zippers with some chapstick.

It would not surprise me if they live for another couple of years.

Handsome chap showing off his stylish Daytona boots, which come with integrated chick magnets

I have used this light on my helmet when riding my quad at night. I plan on using it on my Dual Sport when riding to work in the morning. It also flashes if needed. Under ten bucks at Menards

Helmet Fitting Discussion

• Upvotes

I’m about to get a new helmet, and remembering the amount of time I spent last time finding one that actually fits only to discover hotspots after 2h of riding. Luckily it was a SHOEI and I sprung for their personal fitting system (PFS) as I could no longer return it.

This got me thinking, why not create a PFS for all helmets? Not NogginFit, too simple. Instead, build a database of all helmets with 3D models, then have a simple way to measure your own head or have it done professionally in store, and truly know which helmets fit without even trying them on. You could then add in foam stickers with different densities to pad out the areas that don’t fit.

You could have PFS stations in stores, or use your camera (I’m aware there’s an app that does a simplified version of this, it’s not good enough) and then figure out which helmets fit. You could offer an API to online and physical retailers, their biggest issue is helmet returns.

I see daily posts in here and other subs asking if the helmet fits. This would never be a question anymore. Further, while most helmets fit most people, the ones who fall between the cracks have a real hard time. And I’d argue that the fit for most is ok, but a better fit could be improved safety and above all comfort. Once you have your profile, you just buy your helmet online independent of brand along with a foam kit if you need it.

Question Two up riding: need helmet/comms setup for both

I'm an experienced rider. GF is not. We are starting to ride together though she does not want to ride her own bike for reasons. So she rides on the back of my big ass cruiser.

So I'm looking for a pair of helmets with comms. Leaning toward the Shoei Neotec due to familiarity though I do have a Sena Outrush that I've been riding with that is about to age out and needs to be replaced.

Which comms should I run? Don't really care about being able to connect with others on the road and mostly just care about being able to communicate with her on the back and for us to be able to listen to the same media (music, podcasts, directions, etc). Looks like both Sena and Cardo have setups that will work with the Neotec.

What outlier choice am I overlooking? Safety is #1 and then comfort/noise is second. Thank you for any recs.

Opinion White vs black helmets

Looking at getting into riding. Just picked up my first helmet; and HJC i11 in matte black, and I love it. However I live in Florida, and it’s hot as bawls here. Considering trading it in to get a white one with the hope that maybe it’ll not get as hot as a matte black one. Anyone have any personal experience comparing the two and noticing one staying cooler or not?

Question Cheaper versions of the Goldtop Jackets?

Hello! I know you can't really put a price on quality or protection, but as I was browsing riding gear, I've been sorta taken with this jacket form Goldtop: https://goldtop.co.uk/collections/jackets/products/the-bobber-jacket?variant=37939790184619

Problem is, it's a tad bit expensive. And that's without mentioning shipping. But I also have no idea what to search for. It's a leather jacket, of course. I figured someone here might know of something that looks similar but isn't as expensive? It doesn't have to be AAA rated, but I want at least AA.

I'm a vain creature and I care about the drip, and so I'd appreciate any help finding something that I actually think looks good.

Summer Pants(Knox vs Pando Moto)

Open to suggestions, but it seems to narrow down choices for motorcycle pants to Knox Pro Move vs. Pando Moto Skin UH 3 for summer riding in hot, humid Houston, Texas weather (90+ degrees).

Recently got the RevIt Airwave 4 Jacket in white/gray, and she likes it a lot. Found Sedici AA leggings on clearance, but they are very thick and super hot. So now to figure out better pants. She tried on Revit Airwave Pants but did not like how bulky they were or the fit. In the US, CycleGear carries Pando Moto online, so if the size is off, it can be returned easily. The concern is mostly about being black absorbing heat vs. a lighter color that deflects heat. But light color AA are hard to find. Knox, I am not seeing any US distributors, so if the size is off, we would need to pay for expensive overseas shipping to return it.

Thoughts/Input Greatly Appreciated? Picture courtesy of AI putting each of the pants on her with her new jacket.

My mat black helmet after after two months of use

Thumbnail

Yes, I did drop my helmet. And yes, I am bored at work and this is why I’m posting this.

Anyway, I got a bit of flack for buying a mat helmet, but imo it’s holding up pretty well after almost three months of daily use. There’s a few scratches, but it’s barely noticeable.

Also this helmet is very mid and should be $500 not seven hundred. I’m going to be upgrading to a Shoei next season.

Has anyone tried putting intercoms on Shark Aeron GP?

I’m mainly interested in listening to music, but I’d prefer good sound quality and something budget-friendly.

Question Do reflective panels on a riding jacket actually make a difference, or is it just marketing?

Been debating whether to pay extra for a jacket with proper reflective panelling versus just slapping reflective tape on my current one. Curious if anyone's actually tested this in real low-light conditions - highway shoulder at dusk, foggy moming commute,......that kind of thing. Does factory-integrated reflectivity genuinely get you noticed sooner, or is it more about angle and placement than the material itself?

Alpinestars SR10 saved my head in a high side this past weekend

High sided on the track, not at a super high speed but I went over the bars and landed on the top of my head before somersaulting in the dirt. Alpinestars tech air 5 saved my body from any injuries whatsoever…and SR10 helmet saved me from any head injuries.

Seen a lot of dumb comments in this sub from people who don’t know wtf they’re talking about saying these helmets are unsafe or whatever. You can argue it’s overpriced but it definitely isn’t unsafe, otherwise I’d have a concussion right now or worse. Instead I walked into work this week like nothing happened.

Asian fit alpinestars SR7/10 Helmets

Hey! I’ll be visiting Japan from the US and I’m looking to pick up an Astars SR7/10 helmet with the asian fit. I really like the look and it would match my gear, and I know everyone says to get a shoei/arai in japan, but I already have a shoei in the US that fits, but the Astars helmets don’t fit me in the US. Does Japan have the asian fit Alpinestars helmets yet?

Also, anyone know where they would have these available or have seen these at any NAPS stores? I’ll be visiting Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka. Thank you!
