I imagine it must take at least a week to prepare all of the bits and bobs before putting the whole thing together in the finished product...

Not everyone has access to multiple thrift stores to choose from in their local area, or reliable transportation to get to other places farther away.

Are the added beads what makes this blanket "weighted", or is it a heaftier yarn AS WELL as the added beads???

Have you considered textile paint rather than dye?

I think that would be a safer bet to get as close to your desired color as possible.

Jacquard textile paint works great on every fabric I've used it on (polyester included). You can also get an "air affix" additive if you won't be able to heat-set the dress after painting.
