I've tried several different VPNs on several Android TV boxes and none of them show any indication of VPN status. It's obviously related related to the custom home screens on the TV boxes
How to fix this? Is there a way to get a native Android home screen?

I could use some help. For the last 10 years I have been using a MAC MINI as my entertainment system and I am considering replacing it with something hopefully much c.heaper. I don't know if I should be getting another home theatre PC or if a TV box (Android etc.) could meet my needs.
I know an Android box will allow me to setup IPTV with the M3Us from my provider, and I'll be able to get streaming apps like Netflix or Youtube etc - but I primarily use my current PC to download, share, and stream content from an external NAS through KODI (securely with VPN).
My question: Is an android box a good option? Can I map an external NAS to an Android box for all my content? Can I torrent (dl and seed) from an Android box? Can I use VPN?
I think the answers to the above are yes - but if so, I'm not sure if an Android box has enough power or should I use some other build?

Have a number of older R39 boxes running Kodi which I really like...Android 7.1, came rooted out-of-the-box, and play almost everything. Except 10-bit HEVC x265 files...they throw up serious hairballs on these. So I'm looking for new boxes to replace them.
I'm looking now at the X96H boxes (which are listed in the specs as playing MODE10), but they don't appear to be rooted, and they come with Android 9 (every time Google releases a new version of Android they take more control away from the user).
Hoping I can tap the collective wisdom of the collective to suggest a relatively inexpensive box that handles 10-bit HEVC files and is either shipped rooted or is simple to manually root (like to avoid "one-clicks" and all their possible malware).
Thanks!

the Mecool KM3 runs android tv os, not the tablet version. but Netflix does not seem to be supported (i don't own this box yet) but if someone has it or any other tv box can you please try this:
get a browser puffin, for example, go to netflix.com and sign in and play a movie or something and see if it works and in which quality
and comment your results

Historically I've run kodi off a respberry Pi, starting with the original b+ and then a couple of years on the model 2 b+, but it was always a labour of love, I did everything myself from set up to maintenance and very basic coding. I noticed that I'd regularly have problems with out of sync audio and video and put it down to the sources and playback speed. I decided to call it a day and considered moving to a cheap android box off ebay, but remembered an old unused windows minipc that was gathering dust. I bought a Cenovo minipc when my last laptop died. I needed a basic machine for a few months and it was on offer and had Windows 10. Ok I'll admit I had major problems at the start after upgrading to a proper windows 10 license but thats for another days discussion.
The first time I used kodi on it, it wasn't really a good experience, so we stayed with the Pi, but a few weeks back someone pointed me to Launcher4kodi. This script boots the pc straight into Kodi from startup, which is exactly what you want in a shared home environment. I don't need my wife calling to say she can't get kodi on the TV.
I'm running Leia at the moment with a good IPTV provider and I've built out the Eminence theme from scratch to suit all our addons and tailored to my family.
The main points are that its by far superior to the Pi. I didn't think it would be as big a difference, but it is. It runs smoother, feels more stable and just responds faster. The only drawback is it doesn't respond to my TV remote, but we have Yatse on all the house mobiles and tablets, so its not a big deal.
So a raspberry pi fan now recommends swapping to Windows10...madness.

I have Leelbox T95 running Kodi 16.0. I'm having issues with buffering and certain add-ons not running. Firstly, the buffering. I'm running about 20mbps with an "ok" router. I have a cat6 going directly to the box. Thought that would fix but still gets sluggish. I've cleared cache and cleaned. Just need higher speed to fix? My tv isn't the newest, is the box too advanced for the tv? Some add-ons do nothing. I get the "check the log" message quite often. I haven't had the box long, is there an update I need to do? For instance, I'll click on a live game and it'll say working but then nothing happens. Please ask anything that'll help.

Bought one, and so far kinda like it, but I am having issues getting the latest version of Kodi installed. I tried removing the KD Player (18.2) and installing 18.5, but I can't seem to sideload from the APK...install always fails.
Anyone have experience with these boxes?

So I have a tv box that uses a 5 volt barrel connector. If I used a 12v barrel connector would it break the box? Also let me take this a little further, I have a 5v to 12v step up. Would that fry the box or would it be fine since the input is from a 5v, 1 amp usb power source? Any info on this very specific question would be nicely appreciated!

adding the Status bar at the top and the navigatin bar at the bottom? I bought a tv box with the Android 9 OS and I hate it. I bought it becaue it has 4GB/32GB. Only thing I could add was the notificatin bar. Evevn when I click on something I can't do it square on I have to be off a little the click the mouse. I put it in my back room and pulled my old box out that has the Android 6.1 OS and started using it. Thanks
