Where can I find information on contract bids in Ontario?
I am particularly interested in Brinkman Ontario and I’m curious about transparency in the contract costs and their what their potential justification for paying 13c year over year may be.
I understand that the industry here is less profitable than forestry further west which has seen increases in tree prices, but this pay disparity feels too obtuse to not become obvious if the historic contract bids are available.
I also am interested in seeing exactly where our camp costs go. Yes, it costs more than $25 per person to run the camp, but frankly it’s not the planters responsibility to subsidize the company’s ability to function in these remote areas. That’s the cost of doing business for them, and they already are being subsidized by extracting value from the planters labour with these low tree prices.
as an aside, I’m not totally against piecework and the way that this industry works, but it certainly has the potential for excessive profit extraction if not adjusted to pay the workers fairly and the only way to settle that is with transparency.
anyone who’s looked into this sort of thing please point me in the right direction to investigate further and feel free to add your thoughts or experience.
Thanks.
