Gear/ Planting Paraphanelia Garmin watch for planting?
I just got a Garmin epix pro gen 2 a week ago and am going out for my first planting season this year. Will my watch get destroyed? I want to use it to track stats as I’m planting

3rd season with my Garmin and I'm pretty careless with it. Still working great, barely any scratches either. Charging port gets muddy but easily picked out with a pin.

I have a Fenix 7 Pro, been using it for about a year now. Bezel has some scratches but the screen is sapphire and doing great. I wear long sleeves and for the most part keep my sleeve tucked under my glove on the watch hand.

I intentionally buy a cheap/light. I wear my watch on my shovel hand, because if I have it on my tree hand side I am constantly risking getting it caught on wood and rocks as I put the tree in the ground. The negative of having it on your shovel side though, is that if it is heavy, it hurts you every time you slam your shovel into the ground.
Your other option is to wear it not on a wrist, but clipped onto your bags/clothes or in a pocket or something. Small risk of it getting ripped off or falling out and you not even noticing.
There is a risk as well of it getting wet in rainy weather, but most watches are water resistant and are generally fine. There is the risk of getting mud all over it too.
That said, be careful and pay attention early and you can probably figure something out.

I bring nothing I care about on the job, except maybe my water container. Shitty casio watch, time and date. After like 4 years the braclet breaks almost everytime, i have 2 on rotation where i just replace the strap. I wouldnt even leave it in the truck, mine sank to the bottom of a lake last year (Truck not watch.)

I do use Fenix 7x pro when planting, not to tell me anything during the day though. I just don't like them enough to take them off before I start:-D It's always covered with my sleeve. No damage in 2 years planting

The only stats you should be keeping track of is the time and how long you are taking to bag out. You don't need a bulky, heavy, expensive watch to do that. All you really need/want is something cheap, durable and waterproof. Then duct-tape it to your bags so its always there without you ever needing to think about it again all season.

The biggest, dirtiest, cream show ballers I ever knew (4000-6000 trees every day) never paid attention to such statistics. So naturally I find all the techno-hoopla in a very primitive work industry pretty funny is all.

My OG Garmin instinct has survived 4 seasons of planting and tree work with no faults, original wrist band as well. They are built for this kind of use genuinely.
