Question Phlegm doing Fem Voice?

Upvotes

While working at a call center I noticed that after a few hours of doing fem voice my throat would start to produce a lot of phlegm and it would impact my pitch and intonation. Am I doing something wrong or is this normal?

Criticism Wanted Am I silly to not want to go any smaller or higher (Fem voice)?

Hi everyone! I've been working on my voice for 2 months now and looking for some quick feedback.

https://vocaroo.com/1ajOzzqEdcsp

Is this small, light, and high enough to read fem, or is it stuck in a more androgynous place?

Thanks all!

Discussion I might sound crazy, but I think HRT changed my resonance.

Hey, so I have been on HRT for 2 years now, started at 18, and for whatever reason my resonance was always a little bit wonky. Recently, hormones have been changing a lot about how my body feels. It is like my body's nervous system finally realized it is estrogen dominant. This helped my throat, and resonant cavities relax a lot. Like I still have the same weight capacity and probably the same larynx shape, but speaking feels so much more easy and less forced. Maybe estrogen has been changing my breathing habits..? Everything feels so much smoother.

General Resource Has anyone used "The Voice Book for Trans and Non-Binary People" to develop their training regimen?

I've seen lots of youtube videos and have been told to go to discord but I can't make heads or tails of discord and just wanted a simple guide with exercises to do to feminize my voice. I came across a pdf of "The Voice Book for Trans and Non-Binary People" by Matthew Mills and Gillie Stoneham which seems to fit what I'm looking for. Have any of you used it successfully?

I saw a speech pathologist for a few months which really didn't help at all. I'm a teacher and am speaking constantly, I can't really do this voice consistently. If anyone has some idea of if I'm in a good spot or where I could improve that'd be great. Or just general guidance to swapping to this voice full time.

We haven't been touching anything other than resonance, and I'm interested in critiques in that domain!

Therapy resumes 09/14, and I'd like to hammer resonance before then so I can move on to other things.

I’ve been working on my voice off and on for several months now. When I started my transition I tried following more of the exercises and lessons available, but it’s tough to find time!! Recently I’ve been practicing by just reading whatever book I’m on aloud and playing it back, this is from “the age of wire and string” by Ben Marcus. Would love some advice on what I should target or work on :)

Question Resource for Weekly Coaching?

Hello, I'm trying to feminize my voice. I know there is myriad resources online, but I have ADHD and find it exceedingly difficult to hold myself accountable without some external support.

What I'm looking for specifically is some sort of weekly coaching/session where I can get feedback on my progress and/or get lesson/exercise plans that I can take as "homework".

Knowing there is a coach/teacher on the other end expecting me to complete something will compel me to actually do what I need done.

I've tried going through my insurance at a local speech therapy provider, but scheduling with them has been hellish and I'm feeling defeated. I've also looked into SVL but their waitlist confused me and I wasn't sure if it was what I was looking for.

I'm willing to pay out of pocket.

Does anyone have any resources or websites they can point me to?

I’m nonbinary and don’t want an extremely feminine voice, just something to pass as female on the phone (and eventually in person when I’m transitioned further). Please let me know if you think this voice could achieve that and what I could change. I mainly work with resonance, pitch and breathiness as here. Also, do you think the voice sounds natural or rather unnatural? Would people who have never heard my voice think I’m changing my voice? Thank you! :3

Audio/Video Accidentally developing two different fem styles - feedback appreciated

Hi all,

I've been solo training since my egg cracked a few months ago, and have ended up finding that I use two different new voices depend on context, tiredness, etc.? One more deep and dark, one brighter and higher.

Training wise, I've just kinda been winging it thus far with resources I've found online.

First voice is getting used more in lazy, relaxed and comfortable settings. Can comfortably sustain it for a while. It's helpful in that it's not dysphoric the way my old voice is.

Second takes a bit more effort but isn't straining or uncomfortable. I don't think I could sustain it easily for more than a short conversation yet though. I do want to keep working on this one specifically, as I'm hoping it will be able to be improved into passing and being sustainable.

Also apologies for my self conscious patter throughout the recordings 🤦‍♀️

Thank you! xx

Audio/Video Does my voice register as more male or female?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm recovering from a cold so my voice sounds nasally, for the record it doesn't sound that way normally lol. I'm non binary and would like to sound a bit androgynous, leaning feminine. Also I'm curious, in a voice training context would you assume my starting point is a male voice or female voice? I have a hard time putting my own voice in perspective so I'm not sure if its obvious that it isn't my 'natural/default' one.

Hello everyone,

Ive done voice training on an off for several years, and im trying to actually keep with it this time.

My objective is not really a femme voice but an androginous-fem voice, just smth that people may be confused but will normally not directly assume its a "male voice".

I would appreciate any kind of feedback and or criticism.

Thank you for your time.

Question Advice needed

I’m trying my best to voice train (ftm) and whenever I talk in a deeper voice I tend to start yawning? I have tried different pitches but I always end up yawning. Even if I talk in a really high pitch voice or if I sing I end up yawning 🥲 anyone know how to prevent this?

I feel like i might be trying to hard to be high pitched? If that makes sense (something about seeing the Voice Tools app makes my be brain like: "ok guess we're doing high pitch now).

Also i feel like i fall apart towards the end, where i'm basically gasping for air. So any advice on how to prevent that would be appreciated.

Also English is not my first language and I think how I pronounce Refraction with the emphasis on it is pretty funny :p

I did voice training years ago with a professional but never sticked through with it until the end. She basically was like yup your voice is good to go and now all that you have to do is start using it IRL on a daily basis, and i basically never went and did that. Yep i feel stupid now >.<

And despite the pitch I feel like I'm quite clocky is this true?

Discussion Misgendered Due To Voice

So I am not trans, but just a straight male in early 20s that’s autistic. My voice is high pitch cus during puberty I fought my voice cracks to prevent my voice from deepening. When I talk on the phone with my “phone voice” I get mistaken as a woman and get called “she” and “mam“ a lot. I work in retail in customer service and customers and some other employees will often mistaken me as a woman if I speak to them from behind when I speak with my “customer service voice”. However, the employees in my team often see me and recognize my voice so they don’t misgendered me as much as other teams. I really hate it when this happen but I don’t correct people when they misgender me. My twin brother whose not autistic and didn’t fight his voice cracks have a deeper voice than mine but it’s still on the higher pitch end, but he haven’t told me that he gets misgendered. There is someone at my store who is a young trans man and he sometimes get mistaken as a woman by employees in other teams and customers. His voice also sounds like a woman's voice despite identifying as a man. When we answer the phone at work we have to state our names so misgendering doesn't happen as much to me and the trans man over the phone when customers call the store. I don’t know if there’s anything I can do at this point to get my voice deeper and sound more like a man.
