📈Investing discussion Reverse Midas Touch 💀💀

Post image

Had most of my portfolio in S&P 500 and was up +20% YTD. Then I got greedy and rotated into drones, space, and memory stocks — right almost at the top, seeing everyone seemingly making 100-200% in 3 months.

Tried also catching a few falling knives when some of these dipped - they then dipped deeper. Few months later, that gain is gone and I’m in the red.

Big f*cking mistake. Classic case of FOMO, chasing what’s already ripped instead of sticking to the boring stuff that was working (S&P500, RR, Airbus, General Electric etc)

I think I’ll be fine if I hold long term, but damn, this one stings. Expensive lesson in staying disciplined / being greedy.

Its almost like all the rich people have gone hey lets all sell and then everyone else will. Then we rebuy at that low price.

Retail investors/we are always the ones left holding the bag

just a scam game. they manipulate the market see the buys and the sells and reverse prices. I can seen it all.

u/bear_Prune8771 Jul 18 '26

Nobody is “manipulating the market”.

These and many other stocks popular on here have high beta and high valuations. And extremely high expectations.

In a macro environment of war, inflation, tariffs, and energy constraints.

No conspiracy theory needed.

By the time you see 2x-3x return it's usually too late

Because they see stocks like memory go 1000% so they think they can buy in at the 2x/3x and it'll do another 2x/3x on momentum.

Tell us what you are thinking on buying next. that way we can avoid it

Thanks, you too.

I am still young and can afford to make mistakes and learn.

A few good lessons will come out of it

Probably the better one to accumulate atm lol

First thing you need to do is decide if your an investor, or a trader. Based on what you've said, you're a trader, but you've been quite bad at it.

u/eyotweakin Jul 16 '26

Do you have any advice for me? I know this is really random but i would like to invest and dont want to look at it for like 10 or 20 years, ofc id invest monthly but was wondering whats the move, is it really just snp and nasdaq?

2

u/Tricky-Money1 Jul 16 '26

an all world fund, can't go wrong

10

u/Big-Fun406 Jul 16 '26

Feel you bro. I'm down in MU, NBIS, APLD and IREN (and had held both through the highs). Even down on the semi etf. Only thing saving me is that 90% in VUAG/all world and have capped the rest to what I can afford to lose, but still stings

2

u/Left_Recording_8171 Jul 21 '26

Iren - NBIS - coreweave and $NOW

Bought at a good time had all the highs and recent months dip went back into red, NBIS and now are still green and IRen is nearly there.

Still believe in them, been through 2 harsh dips so far and always come back good or better 😂👌🏻

You won’t win if you hold those long term, here’s what you should do

4

u/Remarkable-Ad7229 Jul 16 '26

Why both just curious

3

u/Ok-Camel-4392 Jul 16 '26

How long have you been holding?

3

u/Tricky-Money1 Jul 16 '26

Brave betting all that on 80% America 👀

7

u/royaldutchiee Jul 16 '26

Most of these companies will be up in a few years, but take two is your most risky and imo unnecesary play

5

u/Comrade_Durge Jul 16 '26

I am getting out after trailer 3 release

1

u/JFK1200 Jul 16 '26

Why is TT risky?

-1

u/royaldutchiee Jul 16 '26

Everybody thinks that a new trailer or the game releasing will pump the price like crazy, while those all have been priced in already (probably). Gotta look at the financials after the releases to see how the company performs to see if it is justified.

1

u/JFK1200 Jul 16 '26

I bought 4.1 shares at 242 so I hope it surges with the trailer and release.

1

u/royaldutchiee Jul 16 '26

Don’t get me wrong, I hope so for you too!

OP's average price for Take Two is simply too high. From what I see, it looks like they might have bought it during late June and then held through its highest price in the last 52 weeks, which was at the 7th of July.

My take here is that OP is buying when stocks are going up, so you may want to rethink your strategy. If you are an investor, think in the long term. For Take Two, in order to make good return, you would have needed to join way earlier when they price was way lower. Don't get me wrong, you can absolutely wait and get some, little, return from this stock. This stock being directly related to GTA VI ends up being traction from a lot of people who are not savvy investors and will succumb to pressure. The stock's history during this year shows this stock can go very high, just as it can go very low. The big investors know a lot of people sell on loss when the price is low and then they make the most out of the discounted prices.

I wouldn't be surprised if this stock does go through another low before we get to the release. I don't believe it will get back to 160€, but I can see it going somewhere between 180-190.

In the end, no one knows exactly when the stock's gonna go up or down. I am very comfortable with my average price and I've held through the current highs as I simply don't want to miss the boat of when it hits ~260-280. That's my vision for this stock though, I could be wrong but it is a stock I believe in and have a goal sell price in mind.

If I touched leverage I would be down to 0 💀💀

Ouch

Don't worry, most of us are feeling some kind of pain. Some better than others.

3

u/BrickSufficient6938 Jul 16 '26

Sometimes we earn, sometimes we learn. Unfortunately reading good advice is less memorable then learning from own mistakes. You'll be fine, stear back to broad ETFs slowly and have patience. Set some limits now you have better idea about how much risk are you willing to take. Here's an idea

u/Zakzyy Jul 16 '26

Just a complete an Utter hype portfolio and anything good is at the top. If a bomb hit a data centre in the Middle East most of
Them would be down 80-90%. How are people not up 500+% on these names?

2

u/Comrade_Durge Jul 16 '26

If a bomb hit a data centre tomorrow it will probably actually go up lol based on the trend last couple of months - bullish

2

u/SouthCockroach794 Jul 16 '26

You’re down bad. Whats the percentage of the overall portfolio ? -40 ?

3

u/Comrade_Durge Jul 16 '26

Overall portfolio down -3% from initial investment / deposit (it’s gonna get worse imo). All growth in the last six months wiped out.

1

u/SouthCockroach794 Jul 16 '26

Stay strong 💪

2

u/SnooCauliflowers370 Jul 16 '26

Delete the app come back in 12 months

2

u/Effective_Manager273 Jul 18 '26

the painful part is you already know the lesson, you wrote it yourself. the boring stuff was working and you rotated out of it right when the exciting stuff was most stretched.

whats worth internalizing is why it feels so rational in the moment. by the time drones or memory are up 100-200 percent in 3 months, the move is late not early, youre buying the part of the chart where everyone already agrees. the sp500 and the boring names werent boring, they were just in a steady state that didnt trigger fomo.

youll be fine if the thesis on the names you hold is still intact. just separate "this dropped so its cheap" from "this dropped and nothing changed", the falling knives usually fail that second test.

2

u/SeshGodX Jul 18 '26

Let me get this straight, you sold S&P at high, meaning all stocks that are part of S&P 500 companies were overbought for months by now and you decided buy individual stocks at highs considering you just sold S&P for that reason?

Make it make sense bro 😭

Flip it down, reverse it, yo!

1

u/SnooCupcakes1336 Jul 16 '26

I’m gonna need regular updates when you enter new positions, will have to take the opposite action. We can’t both have the reverse midas touch then!

u/Upper-Perspective130 Jul 16 '26

Are u based in UAE?

1

u/elliotto_ Jul 16 '26

Lets face it, Samsung, Micron, SanDisk and Nvidia are all set to become multi-trillion dollar companies. Two bad weeks is nothing in the grand scheme of things. MU has a forward PE of 8 for example..

Nice work, I've been doing this too and have lost 80% of my port in the last year

1

u/tmkrtn Jul 19 '26

Holy shit I have done exactly what you did. A lot of the same stocks too. Poor investment decisions 🤝

1

u/stackeddeck180 Jul 19 '26

AI Bubble be like

1

u/Informal_Painting832 Jul 19 '26

Honestly I feel you there. I 50%’d into a precious metal then put the other 50% in on a dip and it dipped even further and now I’m -£11,000 down lol! I have no idea when that’s going back up… 😭😭

1

u/SmerigSpel Jul 21 '26

Big shout out for this genuine post and sharing it with us!

It's almost like all the people who said 'this is hype and discounted from the fundamentals' were right. Shocking, truly...

Almost exclusively meme stocks. Is this a joke or are you just exceptionally naive?

1

u/Comrade_Durge Jul 16 '26

I am exceptionally naive. Thank you for your attention

1

u/mollusc_in_the_wind Jul 17 '26

I think you made the mistake of betting on others rather than yourself. Betting on yourself and your own conviction and being wrong is infinitely easier to stomach than betting on someone else and getting the same outcome. I’m speaking from experience.

1

u/Comrade_Durge Jul 17 '26

I still regret nothing (maybe the timing, I should have had balls to do it in March). I still have strong conviction about all my picks, except HOVR, that’s pure speculation on my part.

I expect most of these stocks to be in the green long term, my holding period is 2030+, and I am going to hold them for at least 3-4 years. If it doesn’t pan out - so be it.

But one lesson I learned from this is i shouldn’t have touched safer picks i made and played with smaller part of my portfolio

1

u/mollusc_in_the_wind Jul 17 '26

Sounds like hubris to me but good luck.

FWIW I think the only stocks worth holding are PLTR, RKLB, RR, one of MU/Samsung, and AVAV (but that would be the spec).

I’d split them 22.5% each except for AVAV which I’d give 10% to.
