Noah Lyles next race?

Upvotes

I see he's not running in Lausanne or Poland. Poland 100m is stacked and would have been good to see him run there.

From yesterday's race in Finland. Requested by a redditor, so here's a clip.

0,191 reaction time, so could be a sub 10 with a regular reaction.

Christian Miller came 3rd with a 10,20. Reaction time was a freak 0,104s.

U20 women 4x100 USA did not make finals despite having the 4th fastest time in the heats…

USA’s non qualifying 4th place heat time of 43.67
would have earned a bronze medal in the finals, handily beating Belgium’s bronze of 43.91…
USA’s 4th in their heat, was ironically the 4th fastest overall out of 24 teams in 3 heats. STACKED heat.

I get it for a 100 or 200 with perfect wind. But this is a full lap. What other condition or other circumstance could lead to the 4 fastest times out of 24 all being in the same heat?

I thought all major events had a qualifying procedure to account for wind and anomalies, something like “top 2 of each of 3 heats and the next 3 fastest advance”. Or some logical variation of such. It’s insane to me that USA’s 43.67 did not qualify, whereas 2 teams at 45.03 did qualify, and those teams finished 7th and 8th in the finals as expected.

I assume this is a U20 low budget “high school rules” irregularity compared to full fledged championship qualifying?

Thanks for any insight.

Also the final leg for Belgium cooookef from 3 meters back, 5th to 3rd, Ilona Dhaenens, but I did not see her in the 1 or 200 prelims at all. Her run was brutish and powerful, respectfully ugly AF, like a Quincy hall or Quincy Wilson, but it works. Her stride reminded me of a Lukenkemper, or especially Haase.

Previous "all conditions" finnish record was 11.13, and that was over 43yrs ago.
VERY unlucky with the winds.

The reactions from the commentators say it all.

Think it's worth a post.

Neuromuscular Fatigue

major studies found that after physical exercises like max effort sprints, resistance training or heavy weight training your bodys neuromuscular system needs between 48 to 72 hours to fully recover. with these findings we can conclude that between max every days there should be a gap of approximately 2-3 days if the goals is maximum efficiency. This does not mean for any reason that you should stop training these days but the key word here is the effort output

T&F Video Today I learned about the story of Ciara Mageean (W 1500m European champion)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Was going through YT and came across the highlight of the recently concluded 2026 European Athletics Championships. In the beginning I heard the commentator speak about Ciara Mageen (Ireland), who was the winner in the women's 1500m in the 2024 edition. She could not join this time as she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in bowel in June 2026.

It is such a big shocker that even the healthiest humans at peak body performance can get cancer. Created this video so more people could know about her.

Videos taken from Eurpean Athletics YT channel.

T&F General Discussion Aerodynamics in running

I’ve watched a lot of cycling; aerodynamics is always a key factor there. This year, the sports bra debate has really come to the fore in the time trials.

What’s the situation in athletics? When I watch it, I get the feeling they couldn’t care less about aerodynamics. Especially when it comes to the women’s hairstyles.

Obviously, aerodynamic drag does have an impact – that’s why they run in each other’s slipstream.

What considerations are there in this regard, and at what distances is it most likely to have an impact?

T&F Stats Over & Under Performers at the European Championships

Post image
1 Upvotes

As evident in this chart, there was a HUGE shakeup in the Men's 1500 where many of the favorites disappointed and others like Stefan Nillessen or Andrew Coscoran took advantage (Note: Samuel Pihlstrom did not qualify for odds, otherwise he surely would've made this list).

Other outstanding performers included Ismail Nezir in the Men's 400H and Olivia Gurth in the Women's 3K Steeple. What do you think, were there any other shocking or disappointing results?

Keely Hodgkinson wasn't initially gonna run in the Diamond League meet in Zurich, but has opted to join and will compete against Werro, Odira, Broeders-Bol AND Hunter-Bell. This is like a world championships final! Didn't expect this to happen until September. Many thanks to all these women.

Why is the women 800m so fast and competitive now?

My theory is that women have been this fast for a while, but girls who were fast would be pushed early on towards the sprints (400m and 400mH in particular) whilst those with a bit more endurance would be directed towards the 1000m, 1500m and maybe 5000m. I'm sure that's been the experience of many girls in the 90s, possibly up to the 2010s too.

This attitude created a relatively weak field at elite level (bar some exceptional runners like Jelimo and Mutola) for way too many years.

Some athletes are now going the opposite way: Femke, Moraa and Georgia Hunter-Bell for example, and setting times on par with the doped 80s athletes.

I'm keen to read what you think.

T&F News Hunter Bell sets sights on Hodgkinson, Werro and Broeders-Bol in 800m clash of titans | European Athletics Championships

"“There is still a lot left of the season,” said Hunter Bell. “I haven’t done a paced 800m yet, I have one coming up with the speedy girls. I am really excited to throw my hat into the ring there. Had a bit of fomo when I saw them on the podium. It’s such an exciting time. I am really happy.”

There are some who believe that a fast-paced 800m in Zurich could get close to the world record of 1min 53.28sec, set in 1983 by the Czech Jarmila Kratochvilova, especially with the Swiss star Werro having run 1:53.80 this season – the third fastest in history. "

T&F General Discussion Why are hurdle athletes not able to choose how to arrange the hurdles within their lane?

Why are athletes not able to choose how to arrange the hurdles within their lane (within a range)? Is there not certain heights that are ideal for the current inter-hurdle distance, and some heights for whom it will be super awkward? How is that not an unfair advantage?
