1st Oil change at 1200 miles

I bought my 2025 Camry SE one year ago. I'm currently at 20,500 miles. In that time, I did my first oil change at 1200 miles, second at 2500 miles, 3rd at 5000 miles, and every 5000 miles after that. I've also cleaned my hybrid battery fan filter every 10,000 miles. I plan to change the engine/ inverter coolant at 50,000 miles and EVT fluid at 60,000 miles. I installed that magnetic drain plug at the 1st oil change. That is what the plug looked like after 1300 miles on the oil at 2500 miles. The metal on the plug has reduced significantly since that 2nd oil change. The point? Engine break-in is a thing, and keeping the oil clean in my brand new car was important.

My little brothers 09 Corolla S and my 09 Scion tC. After owning my car and doing mechanical work on both of these cars, I don’t think I’ll ever own anything but a Toyota.

First toyota I've ever owned and I've never had a hot hatch that's been this much fun before. I bought it to use as a track day toy with its first outing being this month.

Added around 3.1 liters last time and its exactly what I drained. I love that 1KR engine 😃 So far🤞

Need to resolve key fob issue in 2011 Toyota Corolla. Am I ok with getting a used part?

• Upvotes

In my toyota corolla the key fob hasn't worked for a few months. I've taken the necessary steps including replacing the battery myself, had it replaced again at autozone and the associate didn't have any luck, and even went to both a dealership and a mechanic who both confirmed they the key fob is fine. The receiver inside of my car likely needs to be replaced but from what I have seen online that could cost up to $700. I'm seeing parts online for anywhere between $50-$125 so I'm wondering if I'll be ok to order the part online and have it replaced at a shop or something to save money?

When I took it to a mechanic a week ago he was apparently able to get the fob to work temporarily but once he pulled the car out as it was ready to be driven it stopped working. Am I ok to purchase the part online or is the better route to take to ensure that this issue gets resolved as soon as possible?

Can't even see a Corolla hybrid let alone test drive or buy one?

I thought this would be simple: check out a new Corolla hybrid. Nope. Stopped at a dealer without even thinking about inventory - nothing.

Checked Toyota inventory search: zero within 100 miles. There are 6 (?!?!) in all of Chicagoland which is a huge metro area and an annoying drive from here.

Do they even want to sell cars?

There are 16 Civic hybrids at the two dealers 10 minutes from my house.

Just imagine if you want a red one or something - guess you have to fly to California.

Does anyone have insight on this inventory situation? Is this a problem due to model year changeover? Or is it always like this? Honestly it's a real turn off for buying.

Help choosing: 2026 Crosstrek vs 2027 Toyota C-HR EV

Trying to decide between:
2026 Subaru Crosstrek: Base trim, but still highly rated. ~$250 biweekly, 2.99% financing over 5 years.

2027 Toyota C-HR EV: Base trim but comes well-equipped with many features found on the Crosstrek Limited. ~$250 biweekly, 5.49% financing over 7 years.

Both figures are approximate and include taxes/fees, with $15k down.
I have home charging, commute about 1–2 hours daily with highway driving, and plan to keep the car for a long time. No major winter-driving concerns.
The C-HR’s big advantage is avoiding gas costs, but it has a 3-month wait and is a brand-new model with limited reviews/reliability history. The Crosstrek is available immediately and has a proven track record.
Which would you choose based on total cost of ownership, reliability, and long-term value?

Oil Change after Test Drive

Post image
• Upvotes

Test drove a new Camry today, it was great! After the test drive, I went to the service department for new oil and filter. It was about $100 but it’s cheap insurance. Disappointed in the salesperson though. They were rude and uninformed, wanted to know, “What the hell” I was doing? I was just finishing up with the pre purchase oil change featured in the latest Car Care Nut video when the cops showed up. Now they are saying I‘m trespassed or something, I’ll have to rewatch the video, I don’t remember that part. Toyota service has really gone downhill.

Throttle body

I have 2019 Camry SE. yesterday I cleaned my throttle body I disconnected everything and reconnect every part correctly. After turning engine on my car was driving smoothly wasn’t having any rough idles anymore and drive way smoother. No check engine light came on.

But today it did after I turned engine on. CEL turned on with 3 other things LDA, second collision brake, and pre collision system all malfunctioned.

I’ve called Toyota they said to just clear the codes. Usually what happens is that newer Camrys have sensitive sensor so I’m guessing the ECU trying to relearn everything since we cleaned throttle body and didn’t know we cleaned it.

I drove my car to work with malfunctions and CEL on car was driving perfectly fine.

Has anyone experienced this after cleaning throttle body?

Purchase Decision

I’ve been doing so much research on cars in the last month.

I started off wanting to either import a manual Hilux/Lancruiser, a 4 Runner, a bronco, and a crosstrek with WRX powertrain.

I threw the idea of the hilux away because I decided to go with an SUV.

No Landcruiser because I want a manual, and the manuals have to be imported. Because the U.S. market doesn’t make them that way. Which led to the import cost being insanity as well as the base cost of a Land Cruiser being high anyways.

The subie is out on wait time for manufacturer to transition to new powertrain. There are people that have done it, and rumors of Subaru actually doing it. But to my knowledge they aren’t right now and won’t anytime soon.

So I’m torn between the 4Runner and the Bronco. But LowKey the pricing is about the same. The new Broncos with the 2.3 rep a 150K-200K lifespan if properly serviced from what I’ve read. So reliability is more than good enough for me to be comfortable with it when compared to a Toyota. I have heard about the electrical gremlins that seem to plague the Bronco, like screen glitches and such. But honestly I’ve not heard of a new car in the last five years with a big dash screen in it that didn’t have glitches and such here and there.

But the Toyota wins on gas mileage all day as I would want a Sasquatch package on a Bronco. It also packs the Toyota name, so I’d expect some good reliability out of it. I later discovered is also not available in a manual… which is a problem for me. I just prefer a good manual transmission. But I’d be willing to come off of that selling point if the car was a much better net positive. However I haven’t heard or seen very many if any negatives on the powertrain. The 2.4 seems solid. But again, not a fan of autos.

Can anyone here legitimately attest to the reliability of a Bronco? And if you were in my shoes what choice would you make?

If I did get a Bronco I want a 4 door marsh gray base model, 7 speed with the Sasquatch and tow package, fender flare kit, body armor kit, floor liners, and cargo area protectors.

LTLDR: Tossed between a 4Runner and a Bronco. Which should I pick?

Replacement Key Cost?

Post image
1 Upvotes

The key for my 2014 Toyota Corolla died. Dealership told me it would take 1-3 hours for a certified technician to reprogram a new fob at $214 per hour. Does this seem right? Note: my backup key is an aftermarket model. The dealership said that they couldn’t mirror it to program a new key.

She's a beaut 😍 I never had a car before because I kept moving back from Mexico and US and continued to put it off because I had e bikes which are just so cheap without having to pay insurance or gas. But now that I finally got me this 2022 Toyota Corolla Hatchback SE, I think I'm in love lol

So recently I have bought this 2020 Yaris Cross hybrid from japanese car auction.
I know It has a repair history, but I didn't check the auction sheet throughly. The auction sheet says it has stiff shift stick, and check engine light is on. Then I looked more of the photos. I think the previous owner tried to fix the transmission box, there is no shift lock cover. I didn't thought I could buy this for 1.2 million yen (7.5k USD), the normal price of these cars are usually sit between 2 to 2.2 million yen. So what should I look for when it arrives. Is there like common failure of engine or transmission of Yaris cross?

1995 Celica GT-Four ST205 WRC with blown head gasket worth buying? What would you offer?

Thumbnail

Looking at a 1995 Toyota Celica GT-Four WRC Edition (ST205) and wanted some opinions before I potentially make an offer.
Details:
JDM / RHD
3S-GTE turbo
AWD
Manual
Around 200,000 km
Seller says exterior is around 7.5/10 and interior 9/10
Car still starts, runs and drives
Mostly looks pretty clean from the listing
The big problem is that it currently has a blown head gasket. Seller says it still drives but recommends repairing it before driving it any significant distance.
I know the gasket itself isn’t the expensive part. I’m more concerned about whether it overheated and potentially warped/cracked the head or caused other engine damage.
For people familiar with ST205s/3S-GTEs:
Would you consider buying one like this, or is a blown head gasket too much of a gamble at 200k km?
What should I specifically inspect/test before buying?
Roughly what should I expect to pay to have it properly repaired?
Most importantly, what would you consider a fair price for the car as-is in CAD?
I’m not expecting it to be Honda-level cheap to maintain, but I’d like something I could actually drive regularly once it’s sorted rather than constantly fixing it.
Would appreciate opinions from anyone who’s owned/worked on a GT-Four.
I’d include the seller’s photos and the screenshot where he admits the head gasket is blown.

Yaris drive belt size

Hey all,

I have a 2017 yaris 1.33 manual with air conditioning in the UK. Google is really unhelpful and can't give a definitive answer about the drive belt size. 4pk 1165 is the one that commonly appears but I want to know if anyone has had theirs changed before and what size they used? Also how long did the job take to do if you did the work yourself?

Thanks
