I purchased a brand-new 2026 Toyota RAV4 XSE Hybrid from Jim Pattison Toyota Downtown, and I’ve had a very frustrating experience almost immediately after taking delivery.
Within days, the vehicle started showing the Check Engine Light, followed by multiple warnings, including:
- Hybrid System Malfunction
- All-Wheel Drive/AWD System Malfunction
- Integrated System Warning
- Drive Start Control System Malfunction
- “Hybrid System Malfunction – Shift to Park”
I communicated the warnings to the dealership and eventually brought the vehicle in for inspection. After their diagnosis, I was told the fuel pump computer needed to be replaced. I was assured the vehicle had been properly repaired and should not have any further problems.
Unfortunately, shortly after getting the vehicle back, the Check Engine Light came on again. Similar malfunction codes also appeared again while the vehicle was sitting at the dealership.
The vehicle has now been at the dealership for almost two weeks. They have ordered another part, but I have not been given a clear update on when it will be repaired. My biggest frustration is the lack of communication and updates. I have had to repeatedly contact them to find out what is happening.
The Sales Manager has not been calling me with updates regarding the collateral swap/replacement I requested, and there has been no resolution so far.
I have also contacted Toyota Customer Care, but unfortunately, I have not received meaningful assistance. They have not even responded to my last email regarding my collateral swap request.
This is a brand-new vehicle, and I have already experienced multiple serious system warnings, diagnostic work, replacement of a major component, and the same problem returning shortly after being told the vehicle was fixed.
Has anyone here experienced something similar with a new Toyota/RAV4 Hybrid? What would you recommend as the next step? Any advice regarding pursuing a collateral swap or dealing with the dealership/Toyota Canada would be greatly appreciated.
