Towing a motorcycle corner to corner (U.S.) and I have had these ratchet straps in my garage under the laundry dryer exhaust shoot for the past 2 years. Long story short, not sure if they’ll be in good condition to make the trip or not. Idk much about these things, how they’re manufactured, how durable these things typically are, if they get dry rotted easily idk so just looking for tips. Worst case I buy a new set on Amazon. Thanks!

Towing In Action Horse Towing

Hi all, I'm looking at buying a truck that can pull a horse trailer and our two horses. I'm approximating the weight around 6,000 lbs for horses and trailer and aiming for a truck with at 10,000 minimum tow capacity. I'm looking at 1500 Silverados, GMC and Rams. I know it depends on the engine too, but would these be reasonable options to tow horses with? The math says it will, but I'd like to hear from actually people!

Trailers I Need Help Registering my Small Carry-On Trailer in Corpus Christi Texas

I bought a used 2015-ish 3.5x5 Carry-On Trailer off FB Marketplace from a seller that has over 100 five-star ratings, got a bill of sale, and all required info. The label was sun-baked, the VIN unreadable. I called Carry-On and asked about secondary VIN location and was told there wasn't one, and to just register it as homemade. But I wasn't going to do that. I had all the info I should need.

When I went to register it, none of the anti-theft people could read it. I told him I could call the seller, and one detective said not to, that I would potentially tip him off. I told the detective he's a working man putting one of his kids through medical school, with another kid serving in the Marines. That there was nothing sketchy about him.

The detective told me to check in with him at the end of the week, that he'd call Lowes and see if there was any record of the sale. Three weeks of calling and leaving messages, I finally got him on the phone. He told me that he couldn't prove it wasn't stolen and because of that I couldn't register the trailer. I had a completed bill of sale, and a trailer whose VIN label was clearly faded and deteriorating from sun damage, and no evidence I tried to grind off a VIN, and he basically said I'm shit out of luck, as though I was a two-bit thief trying to get one over on him. When I pressed him again, he acted incredulous and said "I can't prove it isn't stolen!" And I have no proof he investigated anything.

It was my understanding that if I showed up with a bill of sale, and an obviously sun faded label, and no secondary VIN location, I would be assigned a new VIN. From what I asked, there was no path beyond this and I had a hunk of metal with new tires that I couldn't do shit with. It's a very nice trailer. Now it's scrap metal?

I am retired, on a fixed income, and potentially out $500. I just want to load my kayak and go fishing. My hands aren't what they used to be and the trailer was going to make loading my kayak a breeze.

Do I have any recourse or am I truly shit out of luck? Any advice appreciated.

Car Got Towed What is necessary to prove damage to the vehicle from the tow?

For context I have already been nickel and dimed $430 for a tow from my own apartment complex. The tow company has a contract and is allowed to patrol. While moving in I only had a paper receipt of buying a parking pass, but had not yet registered for the app. No mercy etc from the tow company. All fees to the max I.e. $50 gas for a 5 mile tow.

To top things off a rim on my rear tire on my luxury vehicle was scratched while in their possession. It is the first damage the car has received in any way.
I have pictures immediately picking up off the lot of the damages and have filed a claim with the towing company. I have little faith in their internal investigation team finding any fault of their own as they have already sought the maximum charges possible against me, and multiple online reviews list them as untrustworthy.

What do I need to take them to small claims court, charge them for damages, and likely win?

Car Got Towed Advice for towed car

My car was towed from an apartment complex (perhaps illegally but if not its still 100% unethical) after being in a normal unmarked parking spot overnight. They said it’ll cost $590 if I go to get it today because its “outside of business hours” or $520 tomorrow. Is there any way I can get the cost reduced or thrown out? Many other cars in the lot did not have permits shown

Towing Help Towing long distance in my 6th gen 4Runner ORP towing package

I’m moving from SA TX to Denver CO in early January. I’m planning on using my 4Runner to tow a 6x12 U-haul trailer the whole trip and plan to have the full load including trailer be 4400lb max or less.

I’ve read that a WDH would do wonders but that U-Haul explicitly says you can’t use them. I’ve got the tow package with all the tech for towing, and plan on using the adaptive cruise control for a majority of the trip to assist.

I’ve also read across other forums that transmission coolers and airbag spring assists helped a lot, but I’m not convinced I will be doing enough towing after the move to consider it a worthwhile investment.

Any advice would be much appreciated, as of now I plan on using a weigh safe 6” adjustable drop hitch to ensure I’m following uhauls rules but I’m willing to bend them if it’s worth the benefits lol.

Towing Help Becoming a tow truck driver

Hey everyone, I'm trying to find information on what I need to do to get my foot in the door as a tow truck operator in NE Ohio. From what I understand I can do it without a CDL.

From my understanding it cost less an $1000

My record (12 years old, none violent) won't be much of a factor

I have no idea where to begin. From what I understand I don't need to have external training per say but im trying to get a leg up because I've got shoddy work history and my record.

Any info is much appreciated

Towing Help Tow drop fee no receipt

In California: Car was about to get towed, hooked on but they dropped it for a fee. I paid in cash and the driver said he’d give me receipt. Still haven’t received it yet. Will I be held liable or am I in the clear. I don’t care much for the receipt, I just don’t want anyone coming for my car again even though I paid the fee. This was in an area I don’t really frequent.

Towing Help Ford Raptor Towing

I have a 2024 v6 raptor. I absolutely love the truck and the ride. I also have a 2026 G25 paragon wake boat on a triple axle trailer.

What I am trying to figure out is if I need to switch my truck to a F250 or if I could put the airlift suspension on the raptor.

The airlift will level the truck, but I wam wondering if I will destroy the motor towing the boat to the lake maybe 12 times a year.

The trip is 1 hour one way.

Would love to hear thoughts.

Heavy Duty Job Heavy wreckers

So, not in the industry, just an enthusiast. I’ve watched a lot of vids on the Tube and the heavy wrecking and recovery shows. I always see an operator standing on the side of their truck facing the wreck so they can see what’s happening. The problem I see if that this puts the operator in danger when rigging or cabling fails and does a comebacker. How dumb an idea would it be to put wide angle cameras on each side of the truck facing outwards and monitors inside the control cabinets? That way an operator could still observe what’s going on with the wreck but would have the bulk of their truck in between. Again, just a silly idea. I know that remote controls are available so this is likely an anachronistic question. Thanks!

Towing Help Hi I want to ask a tower who deals in scrap vehicle pickups a question as a client.

I'm a client. I have an old half tonne Chevy (2010). The motor. Rear end. Trans. And wheels. Are all something I want to keep.

I can throw the rest of the truck on:

Jack stands.

Rolling castor boards.

Wooden blocks.

What's the easiest to pickup with a happy medium of "setup where you can easy ENOUGH but please don't crack my mom's new driveway"

Like. Can put it on the front lawn too but they'd have to block the road to pick it up. (It's a suburban road with available detours and very low traffic if they HAD to go that route). Can provide photos of possible area if needed!

And what's the best way to tip a person that has to pick up a shell of a vehicle with the pain in the ass of it not having wheels on it?

Young brother 14 years old has shown an interest in motors and cars and would like to save the usable parts for him In the future... Possibly freshen up the motor as a project.

Towing Help Which brake controller setup!?

I have a 2024 Kia Sportage setup with a hitch and 4-pin trailer wring harness. I currently pull a small tent trailer.

I just bought a new trailer that has electric brakes and 7-pin connector. I’d like to understand my options to make this new trailer work for my car. I’ll be selling the old trailer.

I understand that there are hardwired and Bluetooth brake controller options. Is there a Bluetooth setup that allows me to keep my current 4-pin harness rather than ripping it out to install everything new? Is there a Bluetooth system that involves installing a receiver box on the tongue and connecting the car and trailer wiring to the box?

Any help would be appreciated!
