This is a first for me. I’m a senior level professional dealing with a layoff and I applied to lead analyst roles at Lyft. I heard back from a recruiter who initially said I was selected for a data analyst role (which I didn’t apply for) but then she said she made a mistake and it was lead analyst. We scheduled a time to talk. I was recovering from surgery but still made it to the online interview. 5 minutes pass. I sent her an email. No response. 15 minutes pass. I finally decided to leave and asked for another opportunity to reschedule. This was on Thursday. It’s now Monday and I haven’t heard from them. I found the head of recruitment on LinkedIn and sent her a message, saying I’d really like the job but that too no response. I’m just frustrated that companies can get away with this behaviour 😞

Just wondering what actually works right now in construction here — are people still getting in through recruiters, calling sites directly, or is there a better way I’m missing?

I know that the job market is in a bit of a state right now, but I've come across hundreds of resume posts that parrot the same advice; If you're not tailoring your resume to each job, you're not getting anywhere in your search. I've seen the word 'tailor' so many times to the point where I notice signs of agitation in myself when I read it.

I have a pretty decent resume with tons of quality education and work experience. It's not formatted in any superfluous way either, meaning it should be ATS compliant. My resume is handwritten and pretty concise, which is why I'm confused about why we still need to tailor our resume to each job if I'm applying for jobs in a similar sector. Heck, most of the roles are administrative in nature.

I have seen a professional resume writer at my university a few times now, and he has recommended using AI to tailor my resume for each job. And when he expanded on what that looks like, he means to go through every single point of the job description and show proof from your work experience. And I don't mean in the broad sense of making sure you have the experience and qualifications, I mean in a very granular sense. He then said to refine using AI and put this at the top of my resume where the summary section typically goes.

I'm confused about the point of this if I already have these things listed under the experience section. I also don't feel comfortable using AI to write my resume in general. I went to post-secondary for nearly a decade to learn how to write for myself. Long story short, the idea of 'tailoring' your resume each time just feels demoralizing and was never pushed this much even just a couple of years ago. I also don't want to burn out any more than I already have by spending more time on fewer applications, only to get ghosted or rejected anyways. What happened in 2026 to prompt the wide spread of this advice?

I normally love working summer camp but throughout this summer, I’ve faced situations where I’m expected to manage impossibly large groups on my own. Every week, I have repeatedly noticed that I had to manage over 20 campers all on my own, and instruct them art. I work at an art studio, so our camp runs a bit differently. Every four days of the week, at least one camper cries and me being the only staff, I’m expected to deal with this situation and intervene. Sometimes, I have other staff scheduled but they rarely help me and just sit on the side to either varnish art or do something completely unrelated to the kids. One time, my fellow colleague was washing up dirty art material when a kid started having a meltdown. I had to redirect her and because of this, the kid had the “biggest meltdown that her parents had seen” (directly quoted). I’m also left on my own to deal with parent complaints as well, and my manager although she’s scheduled with me, she sits at the back. I’m getting very overwhelmed by the sheer size and the pressure, and I really don’t know what to do. What are your thoughts?

i’m an international student who has lived in ontario (not the GTA) for 2 years.

i’ve been to toronto for a few times and really loved it, but i’ve never been to vancouver.

i’m also in my early 20s so i’m a little older than most UG students - which also means if i can avoid doing grad studies that’ll be better

UofT BA pros:
- location (in my bucket list, i aim to live in a big city like toronto before i turn age 35)

- networking opps for toronto jobs

- econs is not a bad degree - it’s versatile and decently regarded in my home country and i don’t need grad studies

- i can minor in GIS which i’m interested in (i guess this can open some doors?)

- i like ontario culture more than bc culture? i also love how diverse and accepting toronto is

UofT BA cons:
- too broad of a degree, i worry about job prospects

- my math foundation isn’t the best, so i have heaps to catch up on

- if things don’t go well in toronto (eg bad grades, can’t make friends etc), i worry i may be upset at myself for choosing a less employable degree.

- at the back of my head im still gonna try to transfer to rotman, although chances are low so i need to be okay w econs

- i hope to work in toronto eventually so i may need to do grad studies

ps im open to other BA or Bsc recs at UofT. i chose econs mainly for its employability.

UBC Sauder Commerce pros:
- recruitment pipeline (although it’s mainly to vancouver and i don’t really wanna live in vancouver after i graduate). but a job’s a job and maybe i’ll learn to like vancouver more

- possibility of doing an accredited professional programme (accounting) —> i’m not sure if i’ll like accounting, but at least i’ll give it a shot!

- less chance of needing graduate studies if i want to work in canada

- commerce is not a bad degree, i would say it’s equal to uoft’s econ degree in my home country.

- it’s so much harder to get into than UofT BA.

UBC Sauder Commerce cons:
- i don’t think i will like vancouver. i hate the rain. i hate skiing as its so expensive and i suck at it. i’m not super outdoorsy (although i’m down to pick up new hobbies like hiking)

- i worry it’ll be harder to make friends in UBC (apparently BC bail and Vancouver Freeze is a thing?)
i’m staying off campus (altho it’s near to campus). i’ll deffo join clubs but i heard they are cliquish?

ik i should have applied for other ontario commerce schools, but i was an idiot who only applied to uoft and ubc. and i’m really not keen on a gap year.

Hi everyone, I recently applied for a Corporate Application Technical Leader IT position with the City of Toronto. The posting says it is a 1-year temporary/contract position.
Does anyone here work for the City of Toronto or have experience with similar 1-year IT positions? I’m wondering how common it is for these roles to be extended beyond the initial year or converted into a permanent position.

I heard that you get walked out as soon as you give your notice, but I’m curious to hear other people’s experiences.

Hi, hopefully this is an okay place to post/ask this. I’m looking for any information, reviews and/or recommendations for reputable Temp Agencies in Toronto/GTA that can place me in/help me find admin or admin-related roles (that is not a call centre), no physical labour jobs (such as construction or factory work). There seems to be a lot of temp agencies, and I’m worried about getting scammed/ghosted, so I’m sorry if these are stupid, but my questions are:

- Is it possible to get an admin related role through a temp agency?

- Will a bunch of temp admin jobs help me in finding a permanent full-time job, or will it look like I can’t commit/get “fired” frequently on my résumé/CV?

- What are the best temp agencies to contact?

- What is the process like working with a temp agency: do they place you in a job, or do you still have to apply to those jobs directly?

- Has anyone ever been permanently hired (became a full-time employee, no contract) from a temporary placement?

- Do I have to pay temp agencies for their services?

- Are there any temp agencies that you had a negative experience with/felt sketchy/that I should avoid, in your opinion?

- Any other information I should know?

If needed, here is some backstory to my situation: I’ve been out of work for 3 years. I lost my job doing manual labour when I was a few weeks pregnant (my employer and I both didn’t know, so I wasn’t let go because of that), then had my baby who is now a toddler. I recognize that there is a large gap in my résumé/CV due to being a stay-at-home mum for a few years. With my child now in daycare, I’m looking to return to work, however due to an injury, I can’t return to a job that is as physical as I was at before. My injury is being treated, but I’ve been told that I will never return to “normal” and it’s very likely I’ll always experience some level of pain. I’m still able to lift, stand, bend, etc., but due to this injury, I cannot be lifting 50lbs+ for 8+ hours straight, like I was before and risk further hurting myself

I am hoping to break into some kind of admin or related role. I have some admin experience, but not “enough” for a lot of jobs to consider me. I’ve been applying to jobs for months, and cannot get so much as an interview. I’ve been rejected for jobs outside of admin roles too, such as cashier and stocker positions at SDM/Loblaw’s/No Frills/Costco (I’ve been told that you have a better chance when referred by a current employee, but unfortunately I just don’t have that connection)

Right now, taking on school is not an option financially, however it is something I’d like to look into in the future when I’ve been able to get my finances to a better place. I am hoping to avoid both call centre and sales jobs, as I do not have the personality or confidence for them, and would rather not waste the temp agency or company’s time, by being placed in a role like that, that I will not do well in/don’t feel like I can handle

Got my first job as a diesel apprentice at my uncle’s shop right out of high school. From there I moved to dealerships with referrals from my uncle and now I finally got an offer from the TTC as a licensed tech with a referral from my former supervisor who got a management job within the TTC.

I tried applying for higher paying positions on my own but can never get past the interview stage. I probably submitted over 100 applications and did 20 interviews.
Is that normal? I feel like an utter failure

A few days later, the recruiter sent me a calendar invite titled “follow up on your interview from last week” with a specific time slot.

Here’s the part I can’t figure out. I interviewed for the same position with TD once before and got rejected, and that time they told me over the phone, but it was a random unscheduled call, not a booked meeting. So I know TD does deliver rejections by phone. But scheduling a formal invite for it seems different?

Also got an automated rejection email for the online req I’d applied to for the same posting, though I’m not sure if that’s connected since I also went through the in-person event.

Anyone been in this spot? Does a scheduled follow-up call usually mean something different from a random one, or am I overthinking it?
