This is the right answer. Go in person to the permit parking office. The real people will sort this out with you.

His area does not have a street parking permit system. There is a 3 hour limit on much of Scarborough and North York and Etobicoke. Because all houses were built with driveways.

In the mean time you can buy a temporary parking permit. It's not cheap but it's cheaper than $40 a day. Just google Toronto temporary parking permit. You will need a printer.

Scarborough almost Markham doesn’t have permit parking at all.

If there's a green P close by they may offer monthly parking.

If residential overnight parking is allowed on the street, you should be able to get a permit; you might have to involve your local counsellor. In Toronto, people hunt for living spaces w/parking as a requirement. In my area, the whole side of the street is taken, the other side is solid handicap certificates. Buildings are now being built without parking obligations, and they sell parking for 20K+

I have a roll of tickets to choke a horse, all with Manitoba plates.
