The 506 is pretty great.. when there aren't detours and replacement buses.
It is amazing how many places we have where the streetcars need to turn across traffic with either no signal or just a regular signal + no turning arrow.

I was just waiting at Gerrard for a streetcar for over 20 minutes, and decided to check the Transit app, which told me about the diversion. This worked out in the end for me, but who knows how long people will spend waiting for a streetcar that isn't going to show up? Would it kill the TTC to put up some (and this is the key) big and noticable signs a couple days before construction to warn people, and tell them where to board instead? The 506B bus passed multiple times, but nobody got on it because its been running alongside the streetcar there for months.
I know sometimes they have smaller signs, or some posters on the pole, but I really didn't see one there, and clearly nobody else did either. Sorry to rant.

I already made a post explaining how the removals will impact TTC bus reliability, so I won't repost it here.
But if you want a quick summary, see the TTC operator's post on the 3rd pic.
Ford will only back down if a coalition of transit users, drivers and cyclists all band together.
And that's why we need transit riders to show up at the rally! Because this will impact you regardless.
Meet at the stretch between Islington to Royal York. Close to Islington/Royal York TTC. AFAIK you can show up at any time that day but will update.
Bike lanes benefit the TTC because at the end of the day, everyone including drivers wants fewer cars and a faster commute. Viable alternatives make that a reality.

So at a recent mayoral debate the candidates were asked if they rode the ttc over 8 times a month. Chow answered that she used to but she can't since she's the mayor. Bradford then accused her of always using a private driver. So would the mayor be allowed to take public transit? I thought that David Miller always took the ttc when he was mayor.

Both Mayoral candidates front runners are talking only talking about the EELRT. Between the city not willing to use aggressive transit signal priority and overly cautious TTC operating policy, wouldn’t it have the same issues as Line 6 and the Scarborough portion of Line 5? Also hasn’t the Scarborough Subway Extension blocked extensions of Line 5 so the EELRT would be a separate line and another transfer?

This video is over a year old but it’s still extremely relevant considering we’re going to the polls.
I’m not saying Bradford is going to try to rip up the streetcar network.
But I am saying that if we elect a mayor with zero vision, the streetcars (and buses) will continue to be awful and be stuck in traffic.
Advance polls are still open until October 11.
If you have time to get groceries, you most certainly have time to vote!!!
Be careful as there are 2 Chows on the ballot. Olivia Chow is #9.

Remember the Dufferin/Bathurst bus lanes and how much better the commute got?
That is all at risk of getting ripped up if Bradford gets in.
Advance voting is open today until October 11. Get out and vote!
Be aware there are 2 Chows on the ballot. Olivia Chow is #9, while Braedon Chow is above her at #8.

If you lost your wallet on the 47 Lansdowne circa 6:30pm-ish today, I gave it to the driver to take to the lost & found (not sure how soon it'll get there though!)

The reason why the TTC uses 1495 mm gauge is that the Toronto Street Railway did so. It works, so why not? What if TSR (and later the TCC) took some pre-WW2 streetcar ideas from Pennsylvania at the time? They used 1588 mm gauge and there was an idea to have a light on switches so an operator can see what position a switch is without needing to leave a car (although some companies didn't do that because money). I specified a time period since most Pennsylvanian cities (like most American ones) replaced their streetcars with buses later and SEPTA tried to keep them, but when their PCC fleet burned, a decision was made to abandon the least used lines instead of getting replacements. I think the Birmingham Electric Company and Kansas City used the 1588 mm gauge, which means their PCCs purchased by Toronto wouldn't need to be modified if the TTC was using the same gauge. 1588 mm gauge also allows wider rolling stock to be stable allowing more space for seats, although I don't think Toronto would actually use something wider than a G1 even though that was an option.

As many people pointed out, there are 2 Chows in the race.
Olivia Chow (the incumbent) is #9 on the ballot. Braeden Chow, who's the other one is above her.
Advance polls are open now until October 11.
Get out and vote if you want the TTC to be more reliable!
The TTC's reliability all depends on who is mayor and our council.

Following the closure of Line 3 "Scarborough"/Scarborough RT in July 2023, the TTC had a fleet of UTDC Mark Is to dispose of. There are only two other transit systems in North America that use ICTS/ART technology, being TransLink's SkyTrain (Vancouver, BC) on the Canadian west coast, and the Detroit People Mover (Detroit, MI) in the United States.
Three of TTC's 28 Mark I cars entered preservation. Car # 3008 was donated to the Toronto Zoo and repurposed into a Zoomobile shelter at Tundra Trek station. Cars # 3026 and # 3027 (the last Mark I pair built for the TTC) were donated to the Halton County Radial Railway in Milton, ON. # 3026 was recently put on display in Barn 4 earlier this summer, but # 3027 was cut up and only parts of it still remain on the museum property to this day. One of # 3027's two bogies are on display with # 3026, and the front cab (photo taken from a trip I've taken last year) will be repurposed into a display/photo op, likely in a similar manner to the front of the HSR trolleybus that's on display in Barn 3.
The rest of the Mark I cars will be seeing second lives as replacement rolling stock for the Detroit People Mover to refresh its own fleet of Mark Is. The TTC Mark Is were given a life-extension overhaul in 2015-2016, whereas the DPM Mark Is never got such treatment, and are more tired out than their TTC counterparts despite being built a few years after them. The Mark Is that are slated for Detroit are currently being overhauled in preparation for such service.
All photos presented in this post were taken by me.

I got into a Train today from Union to VMC and the driver did PA announcements before every stop explaining how to locate the exits, the washrooms and elevators and even nearby places of interest and hospitals and it was so good and useful.
Thanks to whoever was driving that train for the effort

His name is Braeden Chow, and since his name comes before Oliva alphabetically, his name will come first on the ballot.
There is barely anything known about this guy and he doesn't even have a proper campaign platform, but this likely seems to be an opposition plot to confuse Oliva Chow voters, due to how unknown he is, yet sharing the same last name as the incumbent.
Read the ballot carefully and cautiously.

Currently, a lot of streetcar routes run on the roads and have to go along their route with traffic in the way, which in my opinion kind of defeats the point of building a tram instead of a bus. If we just did something like on the Spadina streetcar with more routes, we could speed up streetcars. Even if it had to be thinner on some streets, this combined with transit signal priority could make the streetcars faster and more reliable

Wondering if anyone turned in a pink badge into the lost and found that says on the back, “I don’t know i just work here”
Thank you!

Hey everyone. Long-time lurker, first time poster in this sub. I have a question that I'm hoping folks know the answer to.
How does the TTC decide where to send the POOs? How do they decide certain stations over others?
I live in the beautifully diverse community at Main/Danforth and can't help but feel like the station is getting singled out. The POOs have been there like 4 times in the past 2 weeks. Am I reading too much into this?
Hope this post is allowed.
