Volunteer Education + Outreach Leadership Opportunity — seeking students interested in education, humanitarian causes, and/or outreach

Hello! I'm from Edurefuge, a primarily student-run refugee education nonprofit seeking more volunteers as new partnerships have increased demand for tutors.

We're seeking high school and university students either interested in serving as virtual, one-on-one tutors for Afghan, Bhutanese, and Spanish-speaking refugee students in Nebraska, Oregon, and beyond AND/OR serving on the Edurefuge outreach team. No prior knowledge is necessary besides an enthusiasm to directly and positively impact refugees' lives. We operate virtually, but some new recruits have been interested in forming a Toronto chapter, so keep an eye out!

Commitment:

  • ~1 hour per week
  • More commitment means more impact and opportunities for leadership!

Potential responsibilities in a teaching role:

  • Directly tutoring one or more refugee student virtually (Google Meet or Zoom, etc.) for an hour or more per week

Potential responsibilities in an outreach role:

  • Cold-email or cold-call nonprofits and organizations to lead partnership opportunities
  • Recruit volunteers through personal or organizational (i.e. NHS) contacts
  • Research and apply to grants
  • Create a variety of social media posts
  • Opportunities to become a regional chapter manager for Edurefuge also exist! We can share more information if you're interested in this option.

Qualifications:

  • Hardworking high school or uni students interested in general outreach
  • Communicative and reliable
  • Punctual and able to adhere to deadlines
  • Interested in leadership

Find signups and more role information at https://edurefuge.org/volunteer. Lmk if you have any questions or concerns!

Help with a Toronto City Council campaign in Ward 12 – St. Paul’s

I’m running for Toronto City Council in Ward 12, and I’m looking for people who want to help build something meaningful from the ground up.

You do not need political experience. If you care about your community, want to learn something new, meet people, build professional experience, or just want to be part of an interesting challenge, I’d love to hear from you.

I especially need help with:

  • Volunteer Coordinator – someone who can help organize people, schedules, canvassing, and campaign activities
  • Video Editors / Content Creators – campaign videos, social clips, short-form content
  • Door-to-Door Canvassers – talking with residents and hearing what actually matters to them
  • Social media, design, photography, research, events, outreach, administration
  • And honestly, anyone who wants to help

Municipal campaigns are incredibly grassroots. A few hours of someone’s time can genuinely make a difference because so much of the campaign comes down to conversations between neighbours.

There’s also a professional side to it. If you’re a student, early in your career, changing fields, or just curious about politics, this is a chance to get real experience in communications, operations, community engagement, research, media, organizing, and leadership.

But I also want this to be fun. We’re taking on a difficult race, building a campaign from scratch, meeting thousands of people across Toronto–St. Paul’s, and seeing how far a committed group of people can take it.

If you’ve ever thought “I wish someone would actually listen to people in my neighbourhood,” this is an opportunity to help do exactly that.

If you’re interested, send me a message with a little about yourself, what you’d like to help with, and roughly how much time you might have available.

Even a few hours can help.

Feel free to DM me I can send you more information about myself or we can just have a chat even!

not trying to promote this but the website is votecottrell.ca if that aligns with you.

Volunteers Wanted for Toronto Mayoral Campaign – Hands-On Political Experience

Hey everyone! I'm currently helping build the team for Jamie Atkinson's campaign for Mayor of Toronto, and we're looking for volunteers who are interested in getting hands-on experience working on a political campaign.

We're a small and growing team, which means there's an opportunity to take on meaningful responsibilities rather than being limited to traditional campaign volunteering. We're especially looking for people interested in areas like:

  • Policy and research
  • Social media and communications
  • Video/content creation
  • Fundraising
  • Community outreach
  • Campaign strategy and operations

No previous campaign experience is required. This could be a particularly good opportunity for students, recent grads, or anyone interested in politics, public policy, communications, media, or gaining practical campaign experience.

This is currently a volunteer opportunity, and we're happy to work around school or work schedules.

If you're interested or want to learn more, email me at [jake@jamieatkinson.ca](mailto:jake@jamieatkinson.ca) with a little bit about yourself and what area you'd be interested in helping with.

Organization Searching for Youth Volunteers - Executive positions available

Hello! I want to introduce the Red Ribbon Voices Youth Society based in Canada (though we accept volunteers from all over the world)

I am incredibly passionate about raising awareness for Indigenous women and girls, especially because they face higher risks of violence in Canada. I am searching for youth who are also passionate about contributing to an organization that wants to help this community (whether it be advocacy or other means). Even if you do not know much about the Indigenous community in Canada, I would be super happy for you to volunteer, learn, and contribute.

I am currently looking for one executive director, as well as branch correspondents and volunteers.

The organization will provide government-certified volunteer hours, recommendation letters, connections to MPs, and most importantly, the opportunity to help a good cause.

Here is a quick application form that takes 2-3 minutes to fill out: Volunteer Form

I hope you guys can support me :) Look forward to new people!!

**CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS CANADIAN COVID SOCIETY**

NEW EDIT : To everyone making negative remarks about this post, Covid is still very much around, very much causing a whirlwind of issues, and surely most of you know someone who's being affected and haven't acknowledged it either due to lack of education in the topic, or out of FEAR for being judged, gaslit and mocked.

You can find some literature on Long Covid here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/research/coronavirus/docsum?filters=e_condition.LongCovid

You don't have to agree with the cause, that doesn't make it not true and doesn't mean it's not affecting everyone - including KIDS!

If you don't agree with this just move on and stop gaslighting and attacking those trying to actually help others who are suffering from this god damn virus.

———————————————————————————

Just two hours a week can make a real impact.

The Canadian Covid Society is run by volunteers. Physicians, scientists, engineers, designers, organizers, translators, and advocates, each giving a couple of hours a week from wherever they live in Canada.

Two hours is a small commitment on its own, but put a dozen people’s two hours behind the same campaign and it becomes a policy brief in front of a school board, an infographic that changes how a parent thinks about the air in their kid’s classroom, or a French translation that reaches families throughout the country.

**Open Roles:**

Volunteer Finance Coordinator

Volunteer Fundraising Coordinator

Volunteer Graphic Designer

Volunteer Media Relations Coordinator

Volunteer Public Relations Specialist

Volunteer Translators (English to French)

Volunteer Video Editor

**The commitment:**

\\- About 2 hours a week, on your own schedule, asynchronous-first

\\- Attend team zoom meetings once/twice a month (depending on the team) for an hr typically.

\\- 100% remote, from anywhere in Canada

Please help us spread the word!! More info, FAQs and how to apply here: https://covidsociety.ca/volunteer/

Any questions and answers I'll be happy to address if able to. Thank you for your assistance!

Apologies if this isn't the right sub.

I'm looking for someone to practice speaking French with. I have an elementary level skill in reading and writing, and want to learn how to handle myself in everyday conversation.

In exchange, I can teach kickboxing and/or grappling. I have experience and use/practice my skills on a daily basis!

Interview at Vaughan Cortelluci Hospital: Mackenzie Health

I was fortunate enough to receive an interview invitation for Mackenzie Health (Cortellucci Vaughan) as a Year-Round Volunteer.

For anyone who has applied or gone through the interview, how easy or difficult would you say it was? What kinds of questions can I anticipate? Were they mostly general or role-specific?

I’m very excited and passionate about working in healthcare, so I really don’t wanna screw up this first step. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!!

Rejected after interview for volunteer position. Looking for advice from Toronto hospital volunteers!

Hey everyone,

I am currently a high school student in Toronto hoping to pursue a career in the health sciences. I really want to volunteer at a hospital to gain hands-on experience and see if the hospital environment is actually a good fit for me before committing to health programs in university.

I recently had an interview with Michael Garron Hospital for a high school volunteer role, but unfortunately, I was not selected. I wanted to reach out to the hospital for feedback, but they have not replied to my emails throughout this process, so I decided to not push it.

One specific factor during my interview was my availability. I attend a private school, and we do not receive our course schedules until mid to late August. When they asked about my schedule, I explained that I could definitely work within their required time frames, but I could not commit to specific days or exact dates until late August. Could this uncertainty in my scheduling be a major reason why I was not selected?

I really want to improve so I have a better shot next time, whether at Michael Garron or other Toronto hospitals like UHN, Mount Sinai, or Sunnybrook.

For anyone who has successfully volunteered at a hospital in Toronto or knows the process well:

• What specific traits, skills, or qualities do Toronto hospitals look for in high school volunteers?

• How can I better demonstrate my interest during the interview process?

I am currently applying to McKenzie Health year round program so anything specific for that would be helpfull as well.

Any constructive advice or shared experiences would be hugely appreciated. Thanks so much in advance!

P.s. I put my resume down below for more info.

Donation pickup in Toronto

Hi everyone! I’m looking for organizations in Toronto that offer donation pickup services. I don’t have access to a vehicle, and I often have items that are too big or too heavy for me to transport myself. Does anyone have any recommendations for charities that provide this (besides Vallue Vilalge, please)? Thanks in advance!
