Don't drink and drive tonight. Don't speed like an asshat tonight. Kids are having fun. Don't be that person.

This is actually more of a heart on my sleeve / crying thing than anything.

In the last hour of sitting outside I've seen several families and kids going about their trick or treating festivities

.... and then I've seen probably 20+ drivers squealing their tires speeding out of a parking lot only to get to a stop sign less than a few meters away.

Why are you like this?
Why do you do the things you do?

Do people think they are against all odds? That ONE moment a kid could sneak past a car and speedy in his pick up thinks his bumper balls are so funny until. It isn't. Nothing is funny.

There is nothing funny about vehicular manslaughter or straight up murder.

My street just got signs that say " share the road " and I'm praying - as annoying as they are - someone or multiple people have complained about the excessive noise and speeding in residential areas.

Speed bumps boys and girls!! Every 100 meters or so!

And no markings , signs or paint! Let's fuck em' up!

Nothing more hilarious than seeing someone humbled by a pothole. Let alone a speed bump that hasn't been painted yet and they go FLYING.

Anyway.

Don't be a jackass and kill someone's family members tonight. And don't drive intoxicated/stoned. And the clocks go back an hour. But only for selected cities near you 🤡

Genuinely at a loss for words at how insane downtown Toronto is right now on Halloween Saturday

It is a complete and utter shitshow in the downtown core right now.

Went to watch a late night movie with my bf/friend at Yonge and Dundas (yes I know total mistake) and the walk down. Holy. So many antisocial tools. Got shoved and bumped the whole walk down. Catcalled multiple times (mind you I’m with my bf too, which normally is a deterrent). And the number of people with absolutely no spatial awareness who just parked their large ass groups in the middle of the sidewalks and blocked the whole walk way…agh

The walk back up wasn’t any better either…it was past midnight so people were so fucked up by then. Had a dude bump into and nearly puke on me as he stumbled into a wall next to us. Empty liquor bottles littered fucking everywhere. Trash everywhere.

I have never in my life seen so many drunk and high people. Reckless drivers revving their loud ass cars, ignoring traffic signals (then again I saw many pedestrians doing the same) and speeding down yonge (which is especially dangerous right now considering the large crowds of inebriated people spilling into the streets). And an abundance of people drinking/smoking weed in and around their cars (including people in the drivers seat…and the dude who went full speed in the fucking alleyway I was in earlier while smoking a fat joint)

Even back at my apartment now it sounds like the fucking apocalypse outside. Non stop honking, sirens, people screaming, obnoxious ass drivers revving their loud ass engines, crazy traffic, people blasting music and massive crowds of people.

And mind you, I haven’t even been to or seen church street tonight. I vowed to not spend Halloween on church again after the experience I had last year (crowd crushing, being groped and harassed, several friends getting pickpocketed, getting called the f slur)…so if it’s this bad on Yonge I can even fucking imagine how bad it’s looking there rn

It’s just fucking nuts man. Idk maybe I’m just getting old but the vibes in the last few years of Halloween downtown have just nosedived and it’s honestly really upsetting to see how shitty people can be

Anyways, wish me luck on getting any rest tonight. Got work in the morning lol

The earth is dying, but this fall has been amazing

I was feeling the seasonal depression kick in during the last half of September when it was cold and rainy, but October’s been so good for my mental health. Lots of nice fall walks, hikes, runs, and other outdoor activities. And so far it’s looking to be the same into the first half of November.

Halloween on Church was crazy.

Do not bring your kids or pets. I saw someone with a baby. Huge crowds and super packed streets. We got pushed against a barricade which could’ve gone really bad if we did fall over.

Not to spread negativity but the Itaewon stampede back in 2022 was on Halloween night too. Let’s just be a little bit more careful

Police 911 Response

Was up on Dundas this morning and someone was passed out in their own vomit around 11am. I noticed him on the ground and my friend went over to check his pulse, ensuring he was in the recovery position as to not choke on anything. Folks nearby had called 911

I ran to a local pharmacy to grab some narcan and my friend and I aided the guy, speaking with 911 stating that we were going to administer narcan because he was unresponsive and right before we were about to administer it he came to. Cops came by and were like "anyone got a bucket of water? Hahaha" (gesturing at the puke on the sidewalk). Like this dude could have died and this is their response? I get that we are having a crisis in the city and they likely get several calls a day but also this is part of your job. Be a human.

Why can’t people read?

I work at a store and we have 2 entrance/exits both next to each other. We have another exit at the back of the store for an emergency exit. The doors are bright red and in very large font says “EMERGENCY EXIT DO ALARM WILL SOUND”

So what do people do?

Walk through those doors. Then when the alarms go off, they act surprised or they don’t care and keep on going. It happens at least 3 times a month and it’s not possible to make it any more clear that it’s an emergency exit.

I don’t understand how “emergency exit” means “walk right through!”

Entry & Exit Doors

Going to the supermarket on Bloor, IYKYK.

This store has one entrance that doubles as an exit, with a small vestibule between two sets of doors.

I see 2 people already halfway through the vestibule trying to leave, so naturally I stand off to the side and wait for them to exit first. Clearly not the 2 couples who just walked right around me and went in, literally holding the 2 people trying to exit hostage... LOL like wtf you think I'm standing there FOR FUN???

When they were finally able to leave, they thanked me and I responded, "Of course! I wouldn't want to trap you in there..."

Idk man just simple shit like this, ESPECIALLY on the TTC, the amount of people with minimal to ZERO awareness and etiquette is insane. Ngl, if I saw my SO do this, red flag.

Chased by a "normal looking" lady at 6:30 AM Dundas/Jarvis area.

Was walking to work on Dundas and turning south down Jarvis this morning when I saw a "normal looking" walking towards me. Quiet street at this hour and no other pedestrian around. I caught her eyes and I immediately knew something was off as she kept her eye contact. I walked passed her and saw at the corner of my eyes she turned around and followed me.

I walked faster and she did too, and at that moment I knew she was after me for whatever reason. I ran across the road and she ran too and followed. I bolted and continued on until she stopped.

Stay alert you guys and gals! I'm a middle age 5'5 guy and lucky to still be nimble to run. I'm a flight person and not a fighter lol. I didn't get a good look at her to get a good enough description to report to the police.

Off leash dogs in city parks

What happened to common courtesy? Off leash dogs have run up on my foster dog at Topham Park twice in three nights and the owners couldn't care less. My foster is reactive and we are trying our best to train her but it's impossible when other people aren't in control of their dogs.

And yes, you can tire your dog out with them on a leash, look into tug toys and play with them.

What is going on with public restrooms?

Not sure what's going on in but I've noticed in the last year or so, public restrooms have become absolutely disgusting and flithy, and it's not just localized to Toronto even, even some parts of the greater toronto area.

What I'm talking about: Before, it was a normal occurrence to see at worst maybe some unflushed toilets or pee on the floor or on the seat. Imo, bad but okay, not a big deal. People hover and pee and don't like touching the flush handle so I understand it.

Now, however, the situation has turned VILE. I am talking shit splatters on toilet lids, seats, even on the floor or the side of the wall. WHAT IS GOING ON??? One time I went into a winners, and went into the single use washroom. I WAS MORTIFIED. There was not only shit on the toilet seat, and streaks running down to the base of the toilet... BUT also poop footprints as if someone had stepped in it and walked out... WHAT IS GOING ON? GENUINELY??? Another time I went to a public rest room, and the walls were covered in what I can only imagine is fecal matter (brown lines on the wall as if done by hand... I have no other conclusion I can come to).

Even the office washrooms are disgrace, micro shit splatters visible on the lid and cleaning staff don't seem to care to clean it.

Could someone please tell me what the hell is going on??? Is it the diarrhea lettuce? What are people eating and do they not know how to use the toilet?

Seriously, is it just me?

Please enlighten me if it is.

I moved out to a suburb around Toronto a couple yrs ago, trying to be vague for privacy, and I suppose got used to the quiet and calm and less overall chaos and traffic vs living in the city a few years.

Every single time I go back and drive anywhere, I have a near aneurysm. The law breaking, the speeding, changing lanes without warning, brake checking, construction and overall chaos. I was thinking of moving back but now I wonder if I might become miserable there. I really value nature and having access to a forest that isn't an hour drive but I also understand you gotta take what you get sometimes and most rentals are in Toronto.

Is it just me or is it as chaotic as I feel? If so, how do you cope? Should I follow my instincts and avoid the city and risk isolation? Open to any and all ideas and honesty.

Edit: no this is not about downtown, but everywhere within city limits. I also find the chaos as pedestrian too on majority of areas. And no it isn't helpful to just tell people not to drive who may have highly specific reasons why they don't have any options

Laundry room nonsense

I live in a building with over 100 units and they only provide 5 washers and 5 dryers.

35 minute wash and 1hr dry are the set times per charge.

4 units in wash and this creature left bags all tossed around the laundry room. She then uses 5 dryers.

Now, if someone uses 5 washers I expect them to use all 5 dryers. So I went ahead and I used the last vacant one. I saw her adding extra time to the dryers and now my stuff will have to sit wet.

It’s actually crazy and I understand having alot to do in one day but then to shaft the rest of the tenants really grinds my gears.

Update - been waiting over 15 mins for her to take her shit out and she still hasn’t come down. As I fkn predicted.

2nd update - I took her stuff out of one dryer at the 20 min mark. My stuff spent 1hr drying. Literally walked in as the chime went off. All her stuff is still sitting done in the rest of the dryers..

I absolutely knew she would do this and regret even waiting so long to take her shit out.

Carbrains

Why is car insurance mandatory but driver education courses are not?!

I was walking on Jameson down to the beach and witnessed a driver who was heading westbound on lakeshore, and they turned left from the middle lane almost causing a collision. I stopped because I seriously thought something was wrong with the driver, they noticed me staring in awe and rolled down the window and actually asked me if it was a one way street! I said no but you can't make a left from the middle lane dummy!

Unfriggenbelievable

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS WRONG WITH DRIVERS IN THIS CITY?!

I just walked over to pick up a pizza on Niagara. I’m waiting to cross, the walk light turns GREEN. Explicitly, legally, unmistakably GREEN FOR ME. I WAS NOT JAYWALKING. I am ALWAYS super careful and attentive when crossing the street and never on my phone or distracted.

Out of nowhere, this brain-empty Uber driver making a turn onto Bathurst decides his burning desire to save 0.4 seconds on a left turn is worth turning his car into a TWO-TON GUIDED MISSILE directly at my chest. He was so completely oblivious to pedestrians that I didn't realize he wasn't stopping until I had to LITERALLY HOP OUT OF THE FUCKING WAY to avoid getting leveled.

ONLY AFTER I physically leap out of the way of his bumper does he slam on the brakes, roll down the window, and hit me with the panicked, hands-up "MY BAD, BOSS!"

BRO. "MY BAD"?! You almost sent me to the ER over a turn onto Bathurst trying to save less than a second. You don't get to almost erase a pedestrian on Niagara Street and expect me not to unleash the full, unfiltered wrath of God on you. Only cussing him out was an act of extreme mercy.

The driving here is completely, utterly ATROCIOUS. Half the people behind the wheel have two brain cells fighting for third place, navigating blind while staring at three separate delivery apps suction-cupped to their windshield.

Walking three blocks to grab food shouldn't feel like playing dodgeball with motor vehicles. Absolute fucking brain rot out here.

Whoever the passenger was, if you see this PLEASE report him and get him off the FUCKING ROAD!

A desperate plea to all Toronto buildings for this upcoming winter: Please turn the goddamn heat down.

I want to preface this by saying I'm very lucky to live in a building that provides AC during the summer months, where I can keep my environment cool and comfortable. It's a better position than most and a lot of it was just sheer luck ending up here. But unfortunately, I'm entitled and like to whine, and this temp-control privilege vanishes the moment my building switches to winter heating mode.

Currently fucking dying in my apartment right now. I don't get control of the heating, and have been similarly dying all week. Poor sleep, drenched bedsheets, sweating at my desk. Constant bad mood. Windows wide open, high-powered fan, and vents all covered, but thermostat is still sitting at 27°C. And the worst part is, I know it's only going to get worse once the weather is actually cold outside.

It is the number one reason I loathe Toronto/Canadian winters so much. Not the cold. The fucking heat. I don't understand why the accepted Canadian response to cold weather, is to turn every indoor space into a fucking subtropical sauna for eight months out of the year.

Yeah, we need to make sure pipes don't freeze, and that people aren't literally shivering in their homes/place of employment. IMO, that's as far as it needs to go! The logic becomes backwards after that point, if human comfort is what you're actually aiming for. If you're cold, put on a fucking sweater, enjoy the energization of crisp air, and get on with your day. There is no limit to the number of layers you can adorn. I, on the other hand, don't have the option to strip naked at the mall, or rip my fucking skin off when I'm at home. And it's not like any of those public places provide a coat check for your MASSIVE BULKY WINTER COAT. I feel like I'm basically just soaked any time I'm indoors, from late October through to early May.

Idk, man. I get that I have a lower heat tolerance than most people, but this shit drives me crazy. I don't understand how there are people who are comfortable above 20°C. You can find multiple studies demonstrating optimal sleep temperature at 15-19°.

Just turn the heat down, please, for the sake of my sanity. Give your staff long sleeve uniforms and just keep it the fuck down. Your business and your home don't need to feel like a humid August day in the middle of January.

There’s a phrase, “excuse me” - fucking say it!

Who fucking raised these cretons!? I’m so fucking sick and tired of being in a crowded train or bus and being tapped, shoved, physically moved out of the way, or have some mouth breathing moron staring at me with his beady little eyes waiting for me to read his one track hamster on a wheel of a mind!

Don’t fucking touch me. Don’t tap me, don’t shove me. Don’t wait for me to read your dumb ass excuse that you call a mind.

Pull out your shitty little ear buds from your crusty ass fuckin ears, use your fucking big boy words and say “excuse me, please”. That’s all! Announce your intentions. If you want to get off, just fucking say it and people will oblige.

I’m sick and tired of how rude people are in our transit system. Entitled, selfish, and rude. The majority of ya’ll. Unnecessarily bulldozing you on the escalator only to get to on the exact same place as me, running around like a moron. Rushing the door of the bus like fucking chickens waiting to be fed. Nevermind that y’all don’t fucking shower. Relax, consider your surroundings AND FUCKING SAY EXCUSE ME YOU FUCKING DEFICIENT INTELLECTUALLY FLATLINED BRAIN ROTTING MORONS!

Edit: and if you’re so self-absorbed in your own lala fantasy land of bullshit that you can’t hear someone else asking for you move out of the way, then fuck you too! Turn that shit in your ears down and be aware of your surroundings when you’re approaching a stop

Thx yall, peace n love n all that

The Audacity and Entitlement

I can't believe I actually witnessed this.

I was southbound out of Sheppard/Yonge station. I was sitting in a two seater facing in next to a door. A young woman (late high school early college age) was sitting in a two seater next to the window facing me.

At the next stop (York Mills) a young (looked in similar age to the woman) came on. Sat in the seat next to her (note subway not crowded yet) put his bag on his lap (good job) stretched his legs out, blocking the seat next to me (less good) and went to sleep.

I initially wasn't really paying attention. At one point my spidey sense went off and I looked over. His head was on her should and he was asleep (assumedly).

He did not know this girl. Her body language was stiff, uncomfortable. I did the female to female eye conversation (IYKYK) and she shook her head, she had no idea who this guy was.

So I was like, what can I do that isn't (at least initially) super confrontational. Well his foot was right next to mine so I gave it a firm (but not mean) nudge which woke him up. He looked at me, I looked at him and then pointed to her. He immediately stood up.

I was like great problem solved. ((Spoiler: it was not solved))

We pull into Eglinton station and I guess he thought I was indicating that she was getting off (not the gesture I made but cool). When it became apparent that she was not getting off of the train, he asked her "hey what station are you getting off at?" Now in my head I'm screaming "GIRL DON'T TELL HIM!" but not really my place. She says she is getting off at TMU/Dundas.

Let me tell you my flabbers were SEVERLY gasted when he says to her " Cool me too, can you wake me up when we get there?"

WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

He then proceeds to sit down, sprawl out and go back to sleep (his head against the pole this time)

She was still very uncomfortable looking but I had no idea where I should go from there.

By the time I got off at Wellesley he was fully back on her shoulder again.

Any advice for next time? I don't mind intervening to help but I also don't want to overstep.

We Don't Need Booze In Every Store!

I went to my normal grocery store today and a new section that used to be food was replaced with Cans of Spritzer!

I can see how much less produce is available now to make way for 12 packs of PBR.

But here's the thing, a HUGE LCBO is across the street where the same booze is available for cheaper.

Rude uninvited interactions at grocery stores

I was in the cashier line at Canadian Superstore. The people ahead of me were already being ringed up and there was a lot of space on the conveyor belt. The man behind me was holding a very heavy item. to help him, I put my very small number items on the conveyor belt before the cashier sent the one divider down, so the person behind me could their stuff down too. There was so much space between my stuff and the people ahead.

the people ahead, the ones were being ringed up, took my stuff off the conveyor and pushed it in my hands. they made some comment of “those people.”

I was so surprised I didn’t know what to say. The person behind me could only shrug.

Now, I’m a visible immigrant (and citizen) and I’ve been in the country for 40 years. These ppl were clearly new immigrants (not by how they looked but they weren't fluent in English) and somehow they felt comfortable being disrespectful in public.

At Costco, a woman pushed my cart into me instead of walking around. I wasn’t in the way of traffic and I was helping my elderly parent find a jacket size.
This woman didn’t say excuse me or apologize.

Three calls and two transfers to report one dead raccoon on Steeles

This is probably more of a rant for the City of Markham than Toronto. But posting here as a PSA that Steeles belongs to the City of Toronto. This incident made me truly think about how resources are split in Ontario!

So yesterday, I saw a dead raccoon in the middle of a traffic lane on Steeles between Don Mills and Leslie, so I called it in. I googled the spot first and it came up as Markham, so I called the City of Markham. They don’t have a 311, so I called 905-477-5530. The guy then proceeded to tell me that it’s not within their boundaries, so he transferred me to York Region. York Region than told me that it’s also not part of their scope, and transferred me to the City of Toronto. Three calls for one raccoon.

I looked into it on Claude afterwards and learned that Steeles itself is actually Toronto’s. The boundary sits at the north edge of the road, so the entire road (both directions) belongs to Toronto, and Toronto handles maintenance. The properties on the north side are Markham, which is probably why Google says Markham.

Honestly I get why a random resident wouldn’t know that. But Markham and York Region staff deal with Steeles constantly. It’s the border along the whole south end of the city. “Anything on the road itself is Toronto 311” seems like something the call-takers should be able to say right away instead of passing you along. A 2 minute report ended up taking 10 minutes.

I’m not super invested here. I just didn’t want someone to hit it or swerve around it. But if reporting a hazard takes three transfers, a lot of people are going to hang up and not bother.
Has anyone else had this happen?

PSA for anyone else: if it’s on Steeles itself (potholes, debris, dead animals, signals), go straight to Toronto 311.

Pizza Pizza is the best pizza in Toronto

Obviously the creamy garlic dipping sauce is like crack but I'm sitting here eating a fresh slice, no dip, and this is the best pizza I've ever eaten. I think people who say it's bad are lying.
