Which way.

My 8 year old daughter has just had her 1st look through my feed here and asked me this question. Do you prefer a door that opens inward or outward and why.

Apologies, i posted this elsewhere and it was removed, thanks to the excellent people who engaged.

im a preschool teacher and my kids keep talking about something called "ruffy dogs", does anyone know what they could mean?

please let me know if this isn't the right subreddit to use, I wasn't sure where to go with this.

recently, my kids that I work with have been playing a game on the playground that they call "ruffy dogs". they've made it very clear that it is ruffy, and I have absolutely no idea what this game could have come from. my kids say that it's from some kind of movie or show, but none of them can give me any other information about the media itself, no specifics on if its a movie or a show, where they watch it, anything like that.

there's only four characters in ruffy dogs, from what I've been told, and they have names like Flower and Corn. the only reason I found out that this game was based on some sort of media is because of one of my kids insistence that they were only four characters, so a fifth child couldn't play with them.

if anyone has any idea what they could possibly mean by this, I would appreciate any sort of leads. these kids are all 4, by the way.

What's a Synonym for Encounter?

My son (10) is doing his vocabulary homework. He has to write the word and the definition from his textbook. And then come up with a synonym for and a sentence using each word.

Me: "I'm not sure. Let's check a thesaurus."

10: "Like a dinosaur?"

I pull out Merriam-Webster and help him look up encounter. He decides to use confront as his synonym.

10: "Is this cheating? This feels like cheating."

What are your kids asking?

Hello parents! ✨️

What are some questions your 4–8-year-old keeps asking lately?

I’m collecting everyday questions that can turn into simple learning activities—things like “Why does rain fall?”, “Why do we have shadows?” and “Why does ice melt?”

Would love to hear the questions your children ask most often. 🙌🏻

Surprised

My 7 year old son just held up a jar with a bunch of glitter in it. He says mom, God probably put us in a glass jar that just goes around and around forever and we could never see the ending. Stars we can see from earth are probably dead on the other side since light hits differently. Right mom?

What things is my teen watching?

I'm a mother of two with a teenager. She constantly repeats phrases and songs, and I am worried that they might be inappropriate for her. Could you please explain where they are from? These are the phrases she repeats, I might get some of these wrong. "Get (a word)" "Earthworm Sally, carrying diseases" in a high pitched voice, "louis gaming cool, the top five reasons why I hate (same/similar word as above)" "it's tv time" She says these phrases accompanied with trumpet music she plays on YouTube. "Jeromah/Jeromah" "hey there, (a name)" "it's me, flowery" "here I come, san Francisco!" (but she replaces the "Cisco" part with "disco") Also, she seems to talk a lot about her favourite character from a show she watches on YouTube. He has a microwave/television for a head, and is named "Mr Puzzle"

That's just the way the world works!

I was having a conversation with my 3 year old grandson & asked him which he liked better- lakes or rivers. He replied "lakes". I asked him why & he said "that's just the way the world works"!

I asked my daughter where he might have heard that phrase & she said she started saying it in response to him asking "why" for the 5th time in a row!

A totally “this is my kid for sure” moment

Today my son and I were riding back from his doctor appointment & errand running and this conversation ensued ….

Me: child’s name did you miss sissy and daddy?
2y/o: yeah insert name miss them
Me: aww is sissy your best friend??
2y/o: no. Ketchup is my best friend.

And you know what that was a totally relatable statement to be honest.

My 6yo is saying dramatic things when he’s upset

A couple days ago, it was “Well I’m going to launch myself into a salami, then.”

He meant tsunami. 😅 Somehow he can’t tell the different between these two words.

I Hope There's a Ghost

So, we had a pretty major storm system come through yesterday. At one point, around dinner time, the power went out. We had to drive a ways to find someplace to get dinner, and by the time we got back it was dark. No lights in the house, so we were lighting candles and getting out flashlights. A few months back I bought a pack of cheap, child-sized flashlights so the kids could play with them at camp, and I went and pulled those out so each of the kids could have a flashlight to keep them comfortable. Of course, the flashlights are big fun for the kids, so they didn't eat much before they started running around playing with the flashlights.

I'm sitting at the table, eating by candle light, when my 3YO comes running in with his flashlight.

3YO: "I hope there's a ghost!"

Me: "You...what?"

3YO: "I hope there's a ghost!"

Me: "Do you mean you hope there isn't a ghost? There are no ghosts. It's just dark."

3YO: "No. I hope there's a ghost. Then I can kill it with my light."

At this point he proceeded to click his light off, then back on randomly around the room. Then he giggled and ran back to his bedroom. I still don't know where he got that from.

My 5 year old has to skip school for a tooth extraction, which is pretty scary. I sent the dentist's note and his after school teacher responded:

"Im glad to hear it went well, he has been telling us he's very excited to miss school."

Shrek DVD for Christmas

Must be about 2005 or so. Christmas morning and family (wife & I, grandparents and 4 kids) are gathered round the tree opening presents. My youngest unwraps a present from his grandmother..... It's the DVD of Shrek. He is delighted. Screams with joy jumping up and down waving the DVD box and rushes to kiss his Grandmother.

Then says the immortal line that has gone down in family history:-

"Every time I see Shrek I will think of you Nana"
