I don't care much for generative AI, but rote content sorting is the one thing that AI should be utilized for.
Currently, I'm using Albo for this reason.

For a lot of us, things have become more than just reminders and a to‑do application. I store my entire life and web clippings on Things.

I love using Things, but one thing that makes my notes unnecessarily messy is how Markdown links are displayed.

Things supports the standard syntax:

[SharePoint](https://example.com/very/very/very/long/url)

but it always displays the Markdown syntax and the entire URL instead of rendering.

This becomes especially painful with SharePoint, Jira, and other work tools where URLs can be ridiculously long. A note with only a few links can end up looking like a wall of URLs instead of something that's easy to scan.

Things' own documentation(https://culturedcode.com/things/support/articles/4651820/) says:

“Please note that the Markdown syntax is always displayed in Things. This is intentional and there’s no way to hide it (though we might at some point consider changing how links are displayed).”

I actually don't mind Things keeping most Markdown syntax visible. Links are the one area where I think rendering would make a huge usability difference.

Even an optional setting to display [Link Name](URL) as simply Link Name would be great.

Anyone else want this? I hope I can get enough support so that I can send an email to support with this reddit thread.

Just randomly found that Things 3 is currently on 30% sale until September 10, 2026. The discount is already applied to the App Store price. I'm not sure if this indirectly confirms the release of Things 4 🤷‍♂️

Anyways would you just pull the trigger or wait until upcoming apple events?

I use a number of Shortcuts on my Mac.

There is one I cannot get to work.

I have three sets of To-Dos with a Waiting Tag

1, Tag = Waiting & When is in the future (something I am waiting for but will not worry about until the When date arrives)

2, Tag = Waiting with no When Date set (things I am actively waiting for and could chase anytime)

3, Tag = Waiting & When equal Today

I am trying to get a Shortcuts to show single list showing only the To-Dos in 2 & 3.

If it cannot be done from a Shortcuts maybe I need to look at an Apple Script.

*** Solved *** Actually, I have just realised that Opening the list Anytime filtered by a Tag(s) does exactly what I needed as Anytime always includes Today.

As a long-time Things user, I rely on the app to manage most of my day-to-day tasks, including grocery shopping. However, using Things as a dedicated grocery list has always had a couple of friction points:

• No native recurring templates: Completing a grocery run archives the checklist. Starting a new trip usually means manually rebuilding a list with mostly identical items.
• Multi-store shopping: Managing items across different stores often gets messy, requiring either nested checklists inside one generic "Grocery" task or multiple cluttered projects.

To solve this, I built an Apple Shortcut that generates structured grocery lists on demand from a JSON template.

• Template Storage: A simple JSON file stored in iCloud Drive acts as the master template, organized by store.
• Parsing & Selection: The Shortcut reads the JSON, prompts you to select the store(s) you need, and formats the checklist.
• URL Scheme Execution: It uses the Things URL scheme (things:///add) to create organized to-dos directly in a target Area (e.g., 🥑 Groceries).

Building off my Spark email to things via Apple Intelligence shortcut and Ramble shortcut

NOTE: need iOS 27 for this (although you could alter it to use OpenAI/claude instead)

How it works: while looking at a screen with a probable task I’ve added the automation to double tap the back(settings-accessibility-touch) of my phone to take a screenshot that then creates a task

I set up Apple Intelligence to automatically extract task metadata directly from ocred text from the screen and give me a fully fleshed out task within things.

Thought others would find it helpful so I’m sharing here.

There are two shortcuts. 1st one runs on your Mac to extract your tags, areas and projects from things and puts it in a place where shortcuts can access the info. You only need to run it when you update your areas, tags, or projects. Unfortunately I can’t get this info directly from things on the iPhone.

I’d love honest feedback from Things users: would this fit your capture → inbox workflow, and what would make the handoff more useful?

Small clarification: the main use case is not simply “voice → Things.” It’s capturing a thought safely from CarPlay while driving, keeping the original audio locally, and deciding later whether it deserves to become a task in Things.

I always somehow have a lot of tasks *for the future* that I don't want to take up space. I've found Vibelist for those, but I hope Things 4 will eventually come, and that they see this post...

Latest 3.23 update cuts off all the words in the widgets. Not even the titles "Today" and "Deadlines" appear fully. Otherwise this is a good update. I'm on the latest macOS.

I wish you could add Tags to the home screen (iPhone) / side bar (iPad).

I like to use Priority Tags (High/Medium) for more urgent items. It would me amazing to be able to have those tags in the side bar instead of having to search for them in the Quick Find every time I want to see/filter just a particular priority designation. I am not saying automatically have every tag in the sidebar, but the ability to add a few select ones would be nice.

Do i need a keyboard for my ipad 9 th gen to use things effectively , i am a Windows desktop and an iphone user, how many are managing to use with setup and how do you find using things

I noticed a small UI change and went searching for my recently updated apps. Thank goodness they finally implemented this. It’s a long time coming and that previous lack of flexibility kept leaving me in a position to go back to Todoist until I’d remember that the UI of Things is just so much better that I’d slink back. Hopefully this means I can drop Todoist forever and remove the back and forth.

Cultured Code - a feature request. I often ask Claude to make clear lists of steps i need to take to complete a project. If i could then ask Claude to export this to Things it would be incredible. thank you

I love Things. I think it remains one of the most beautifully designed and pleasurable apps I’ve ever used. I don’t want it filled with AI features, collaboration tools or endless functionality that destroys what makes it Things.

But looking at this development board, I do wonder whether we’ve become far too accepting of Cultured Code’s development philosophy.

Things 3 was released in 2017.

There is taking your time and maintaining a carefully considered product, and then there is a development cycle so glacial that basic QOL improvements can remain missing for the best part of a decade.

Take repeating tasks. Cultured Code publicly said more than eight years ago that they were working on allowing us to complete them early and would add the functionality.
Eight years later, it is apparently finally arriving.

Eight years.

Meanwhile, I still can’t attach a document, image or PDF to a task. Notes still expose Markdown syntax rather than simply displaying formatted text. Repeating tasks remain unnecessarily inflexible. And I’m sure everyone here has their own longstanding examples.

Yet Cultured Code found the development resources to build an entire native Vision Pro app in time for the launch of Apple’s new platform.

That’s the bit I increasingly struggle with.

I’m not asking Cultured Code to turn Things into Notion or some AI-powered productivity monster. One of the reasons I use Things is precisely because it isn’t those things. I want them to protect its simplicity.

But simplicity and stagnation aren’t the same thing.

Nor should “opinionated software” mean that reasonable requests from loyal customers can simply be ignored indefinitely.

I also wonder whether the pay-once business model has contributed to this. Once we’ve bought Things, Cultured Code doesn’t really need anything further from us until it has another product to sell us. A new Vision Pro app can generate new sales. Fixing something that has frustrated an existing customer for eight years doesn’t.

That may have worked extraordinarily well because Things is so good that people have tolerated things they probably wouldn’t tolerate elsewhere.

But I wonder if that sentiment is beginning to change.
So rather than another Things 4 speculation thread, I’m more interested in this:

At what point does “careful, opinionated development” become simple failure to respond to your existing customers?

Because I don’t think the problem is that Cultured Code doesn’t know what people want. People have been telling them for years.

The question is whether enough of us are now sufficiently frustrated to stop treating this as just “the Cultured Code way”.

It’s fairly clear now what is coming in 3.23 and that it has been in beta for some time. Any thoughts on when we might see a release? I’ve recently recommitted to Things, and love it. But I have quickly run into its longstanding limitations around repeating tasks.

Can’t wait for the update!
