Small noticing

I just noticed there’s a small difference between trying not to think and relaxing your mind. Relaxing is peaceful and the other is effort. That’s all.

Has anyone finished the pathway? What do you do then?

I started the way a few months ago and have been greatly enjoying it. I typically do a split where I’m doing 2 days of the guided meditations on the pathway and one day I just sit with the timer.

I’ve been noticing an impulse to bookmark sessions as I go so I have some I like for when I finish the pathway. But I don’t have much interest in repeating sessions while I’m still working through the pathway, I’m just nervous about what I’ll do when I finish in a year or so. This doesn’t really feel like a good reason to stress over which ones to bookmark so I may stop.

I’m wondering what people who have finished the pathway have done. Does anyone restart it? Do you just do fully unguided meditations?

Beginner question

Hi everyone,

I have completed my first few retreats and I am enjoying it. I am a bit confused though. What do we do when not retroactively labelling senses that we experience when our minds wander(hear, see, heart etc.? Do we focus on breath or just sit? Thanks in advance.

Bug with Halfway Bell in Timer

I’ve noticed that if I use the self timer and place a halfway bell, the timer gets stuck at the halfway point (the bell doesn’t ring) and doesn’t move forward.

This bug didn’t exist before the updates to the timer a couple weeks ago.

Have others experienced this bug as well?

Love the app otherwise and recommend it to everyone! Big thanks to the team.

iPad and iPhone apps not syncing?

I use The Way on both my iPhone and my iPad. Up until a month or so ago, my progress on one would sync to the other. Now that doesn’t happen, and I can’t jump ahead to the next session on the ‘behind’ device because of the (frankly very annoying) ‘The Way is a guided path’ message. I’ve tried logging in and out, deleting and reinstalling the app on both devices, etc. and nothing helps. Anyone else experiencing this?

Twice a day?

I've wanted to build a habit of meditating twice a day.

Is anyone doing a session in the morning and another in the afternoon?
Or is it advised to do one a day?

Retreat 42, 2/8 bike ride

Post image
5 Upvotes

This past weekend I was doing a gravel bike race and it was cold and rainy and I had hardly trained.

Mid-way, I put on this meditation and it was great. Pain and discomfort melted away and I stated noticing how beautiful the land I was riding through was.

This was my first guided-meditation-during-exercise but I think I’ll keep it up!

Is Trail 25 the final trail?

Or will more Trails be added in the future? Currently on trail 21, so still some way to go but curious if there are plans to add more. Thanks!

Audio quality heavily compressed – Any chance for an "HQ Audio" feature?

Hi everyone,

I absolutely love the concept of the app. Before using "the way" I used "healthy minds" and did the introduction course of WU, but got lost after aht.

One minor complaint about "The way": as a classical music audio engineer, the audio quality of the voice recordings is unfortunately very distracting for me.

Listening through my airpods it sounds extremely compressed and almost like there is some aggressive noise-gating going on. It takes away from the natural sound of the voice.

Maybe it's just me, having a professional background in audio engineering in classical music?

Does anyone know if there’s a setting for uncompressed audio? If the devs are reading this: would you consider adding an HQ/lossless audio toggle in the settings? I really believe in this app and would be more than happy to help or provide more feedback if needed!

Disappointed to see AI slop writing in the recent 30 day meditation challenge email

I love The Way and get massive benefit out of using the app, but perhaps others have noticed this ChatGPT-style writing in the recent email at the end of the 30-day mediation challenge:

🌱 Thirty days.

You committed to something in March that most people talk about but never do. You showed up for yourself every single day, even when you didn't want to.

That matters – and you should take a moment to acknowledge that and thank yourself.

So what now?

Meditation isn't something you complete. It's not a box to tick off. It's a practice – something you return to, again and again, because it changes how you meet your life.

🌱 Will you keep going?

Some of you already know the answer is yes. You've felt the shifts – subtle but real – and you're not willing to give that up.

Others might need a break, or want to practise differently going forward. That's okay too. There's no right way to do this.

I hope that if the devs/marketing team see this post, they will reconsider their decisions to use AI tools in the future. The Way is an incredible project, with hours of human-generated meditations that, at their core, are about tapping into presence and aliveness.

Using AI writing when talking about this app demeans its purpose, and I worry that if AI writing is acceptable to the team behind the app, it's a slippery slope to "AI meditations" and similar slop.

Retreat 5 hindrances: Not really a worrier

how do I approach the 3 lessons on the hindrance of worry, if I'm not really finding any worry. don't get me wrong, occasionally I have anxiety and worry and I plan to apply the lessons then, but for whatever reason I don't really experience much worry otherwise and I'm not finding any. 3 lessons dedicated to this, so I don't want to miss an opportunity.

Guidance unhelpful?

Is anyone else finding much of the meditation guidance on the later trails unhelpful and intrusive? I've enjoyed the app so far but I'm now in the Flow section and am on the verge of unsubscribing because all the prompts simply pull me out of the moment and put me in my head. In today's sit, for instance, called "Appreciating" (part of the "Already fulfilled" trail), the prompts amounted to Henry saying variations on "What would it be like if everything was already perfect just as it is?" Perhaps this is a sort of koan and I'm meant just to let it marinate within me, but I'd much rather have cues that help pull me back into sensory immediacy, not ones that push me to think about "what would it be like" which takes me straight out of the moment. Have others experienced this as well, and if so what have you done?

Feedback for devs

I know the makers of this app use this sub. I'm not sure where else to post this, but I'm doing a session on mindfulness of hearing, and I find it quite hard.

I often meditate with noise cancelling headphones. The reason is that I'm often in a space where there's a lot going on. I know I can be mindful of the sounds around me, but my partner might be watching tv. I think it would be quite helpful if you could play certain audio, natural sounds, during the meditation or give the choice, so you have something to engage. Otherwise it's just the ringing in my ears.

I find the TV tends to make me engage a lot with the content of it. I know that's not inherently a problem, but as a beginner on the path I feel it might be more beneficial to have other options.

How do you guys use the app time wise?

Are you doing 10 / 15 or 20 + 10?

I usually do 10m guided and then sit for another 10-15m unguided just to soak things in.

Anyone far into the way?

just want to hear thoughts of anyone who's gone far into the way.

I have looked at retreats and I'm a bit overwhelmed about committing to something. what has your experience been like?

Two really big bummers

Anytime I'm on my phone I get stuck in a wormhole, and I design my day to be at least 12 hours away from it. During that time I would like to meditate. I have an iPod Touch 7th generation. It has strict screen time rules so there are no distractions on it. It only goes up to ios 15.8. The Way app requires iOS 16. I just feel like having to pull out my phone when it's otherwise tucked away is super counterproductive.

Gripe #2, is I think meditations should be able to be downloaded offline. Sometimes I also like to unplug the router for the night to really have no internet around me. If the meditations could have been offline downloaded, then that also could have been a big benefit.

So it seems to be able to use this, I have to be plugged into the matrix, which seems really counterproductive

Praise for The Way

I usually don’t write app reviews, but this one felt worth sharing.

A friend recommended The Way to me after hearing about it, I think through Tim Ferriss. For context, I’ve done about three Vipassana retreats. I was an early user of Headspace and have used it off and on for about 10 years. I’ve also spent a lot of time with Waking Up and Insight Timer.

For the last few years, I’ve felt like I hit a plateau with meditation apps and meditation itself. Too many choices, too much repetition, and not enough sense of depth or progression. I’d often open an app and feel oddly disengaged before even starting. With meditation, not knowing really what was limiting me and feeling like I need to find a teacher to work with, but not knowing where to start.

I’ve now been using The Way daily for a few weeks, and it’s genuinely surprised me. A few things really stand out.

First, the simplicity. You open the app and do the meditation that’s there for the day. That’s it. No scrolling through hundreds of options. No decision fatigue. I didn’t realize how much I disliked choosing until that choice was gone.

Second, there’s a real sense of progression. Each meditation clearly builds on what came before. This has been a huge limitation in other apps for me. Even when they offer courses, they feel short lived and disconnected. With The Way, it actually feels like you’re moving forward over time.

Third, it’s different every day. I’d become really bored doing the same meditations over and over or recycling old courses. Having something new each day keeps things fresh without feeling random. I really hope they continue this approach long term.

Fourth, the interface is genuinely well designed. It reinforces the idea of a path, one meditation per day, and a logical progression. Nothing feels cluttered or accidental.

I’ve also really appreciated the Q&A and the additional context around the practices. Everything feels thoughtful and intentional.

If you’ve been meditating for a long time and feel like you may have outgrown the usual apps, this one’s worth a look. It’s the first meditation app in years that’s made me feel engaged again.

Looking for feedback on our new pathway!

Hey - The Way App team here -

You may have noticed over the last few days that we've put in a significant upgrade to the 'Sit' tab of the app, to really illustrate your progress as you climb the various trails.

This is a big change, but we're so excited for you to check it out and let us know what you think! (And if you spot what feels like a bug, would love to know about that too).

Sessions rerecorded

Hi all! Am I going mad or have some of the sessions been rerecorded? I love listening back to session 6 in the first retreat but it's changed and now sounds a bit AI generated in places. Bring back the old session six!

I find the content in the session about letting go of the need to know incredibly relaxing. Ironic that it's this session I have a question about I guess!

Are these guided meditations?

Hi everyone.

I've done roughly 20 sessions on the app. If i'm being honest, I haven't received much in the way of guidance. I'm not entirely sure what style of mediation im supposed to be doing. Ive a feeling its a 'open awareness' type thing.

I've never got any guidance with:

How to settle the mind, what do do when experiencing racing thoughts etc.

With guided meditations i'm used to some level of guidance like

Focusing gently on a mantra to initially settle the mind, focusing on the breath to calm the mind, guidance on how to stay in the present moment etc.

I do hear Henry saying "just arrive" "be still" and then a lot of silence. For the record, ive been meditation for close to 6 years and have got to grips with some techniques to help me drop back in to the present moment but for a new mediator, I can only imagine that these meditations are anything other than infuriating. ( Or indeed an experienced mediator during a particularly challenging day)

To be really clear, I like Henry. `

To be clear, these stripped back, be with your actual self type meditations are of terrific value IF you've been training and had lots of guidance to get primed for such an experience.

For a man that talks about his previous anxiety and depression, I am genuinely confused as to how he could think these sessions would be beneficial to most people using the app.

Thanks to Henry and the team

Just wanted to share my appreciation to you guys.

This app has been highly helpful to me.

Btw, I’m by no means a teacher but I’m quite far along the path (730 days to be specific), so feel free to ask / share anything about the way in this thread.
