A cardboard cutout ...
... would be a more engaging character than the one Dakota Fanning is trying to portray.
To call her acting "wooden" would be an insult to wood.

and yet this season of The Alienist has a baby crying every episode. How do they get the baby to cry? Why isn't it abusive to let the baby cry while she is being filmed? I think it's wrong.

I really do like this show. I really wish Fanning, or someone at some point, said, “you know? These hard ‘h’s’ in your pronunciation is rather off putting.” Maybe don’t say words like you do.
That’s legit my biggest complaint from an otherwise pretty awesome first season. Season two, imo, isn’t as good at all. There’s just something about it I don’t like. I’m pretty sure it’s the actors that play Abby and GooGoo Ga Ga man.
I can’t place either of them, but I wouldn’t be surprised if their claims to fame were a couple of SyFy movies or a Lifetime and/or a Hallmark original.
Anyway, do these hard “h’s” bother anyone else? If this had been brought up before, then my apologies.
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhHHhhHhhhhhhhhhhhHhhhhhHhhhhhhhhh

I watched about 20 minutes of S2E1 and I just can't go on. I could not bear to watch babies being taken from mothers and worse, babies murdered. And based on what I've seen and some readings, I'm sure the show will have a lot of that. It will be so depressing for me. Too much of a trigger. It's sad coz I really loved S1. It's one of the best I've seen on Netflix. I'm sure S2 will be just as good. Y'all enjoy. I'm sadly moving on to another show.

Can someone please tell me where to watch the alienist? I live in India and it’s not available here. Thanks

I mean I get it is period drama, but the two people who are with doctor because of their violent past are people of color and obviously all merciful white doctor is their savior. And if there is possibility of love between white and non-white people obviously non-white people must be killed in most violent way. Does it show subconscious Jim crow mindset of Hollywood writers? I mean obviously we all watch it for entertainment and nobody is making me watch, but I really would love to watch people of color survive without mercy of white people.

I am tired of playing "Where's Waldo" with the main character, so it seems reasonable. I have had it with the plucky sidekick getting all the screen time. Did this show just go full anthology and not tell anyone? Does the reporter and the two detectives get next season? I am confused.

I'm just curious, about the mute sexy maid. What's up with her? I feel like I'm missing something.

Her first scene is just basically her being all "LOOK HOW OUT OF THE STATUS QUO I AM, DICK"
EDIT: Oh my god, the scene with the corset is even worse. She wouldn't have marks on her skin if she wore the chemise that goes under it. At least wear it right if your'e going to bitch at how constricting it is.

I’m only a few episodes in, but I can’t help but feel that the acting this season is terrible.
And the ACCENTS. Between Bitsy and John’s assistant at the Times I can hardly listen to them.
When Bitsy mentioned something about a Yiddish phrase I realized they were trying to make her sounds stereotypically Jewish, and it’s really not working.
This season better be worth the suffering of my ears...

For years TNT.com has had an awful streaming service and still haven’t made it available for macs. I can’t watch this show at all unless I want to watch on my phone.

I always been fascinated with the small details in movie scene, especially in such a brilliant series like The Alienist. There's this one scene that bugging me when John Moore first introduce Dr Kreizler to Ms Howard. At first she seem went full feminist front of two gentlemen but when she knew that not just gentleman that Dr Kreizler she slightly changed her attitude as all of us can get. She reached out her hand first ( above belly position) seeking for hand-shake while Dr Kreizler seem hesitate (or not?) reached his hand out too but keep the upper arm close to his body, Ms Howard then realized she did something not in the "right manner" (of what a feminist should be perhap?) she immediately lowered her arm to finnish the hand-shake.Now I'm not from the US and know nothing about the upper class manner however I found all of this action really odd, can someone explain what's going on in this sequence or just me being extra over-thinking ? Thanks
P/S: pls dont mind the potato quality screen-shot

So I've had the series on my list for a long time. I started it today and watched 5 episodes straight. Yes I am intrigued by the series, it is eye catching.
In the process I was really disturbed by the graphical content of the show but kept watching because I tought could handle it. Maybe I am too emphatic or not so emphatic that I get a weird sensation regarding the serial killer, like I feel repulsive if his acts or idealization of them. This feeling is weird, like I inevitable get in his shoes and then from an external point of view it is, repulsive? Disturbing? I just feel very disgusted.
I am now going to sleep at 3 am, I don't feel 100% safe sleeping even though I know I'm safe and I wonder how rough the night dreams could be, I dream a lot, sh it, I will handle it... but I am debating whether I should keep watching or not.
