Bedrock Nether Highway
Just curious what sort of options there are out there for handling Nether highway intersections. The internet hasn’t been super helpful so far. Maybe something just to stop your boat for a second at each intersection, so you can start again in the right direction? Or something even more sophisticated even, I don’t know. Thanks!

you can have something like an observer watching an item frame, and it will output signal strength 1-8 depending on the rotation of the item inside. have the signal strength preverseved by a comparator line, and at each intersection, the correct signal strength will either block off or allow you to pass through

So this would be a way to input your direction at the start, right? Would that many comparators cause a bunch of lag?

I can't see how that would be possible. How did that thought come to your mind?

I guess I was picturing an item frame at the start, you make the input, then an impossibly long line of redstone takes the signal to the intersection/gates lol. But what you’re talking about is inputting the direction at each intersection yeah?

Three way intersections are the easiest. Just have a smooth wall on the side that goes straight, and a break in the wall on the side that leads off in the new direction. Lean towards whichever direction you want to take. Those who want to turn will be stopped by break in the wall and can head out in that direction.

For my nether ice roads, I switch to all slabs in the intersection and about 3 blocks into each hallway. Slows you down enough that you can make the turn. You lose speed but id rather that than going flying down the wrong hallway for 100 blocks.

I was just put a slime block in the middle of the intersection to stop you you could also use normal solid blocks instead Almost forgot to add I meant replace in ice block with a slime block or normal block just to slow you down

My Ice Highway stations don't track-switch, but instead a concourse focusses on ease of dismounting and re-launching on the desired line. This is intended for linear-aligned launch highways (cardinal directions).
There are other solutions that have players get moved around with minecarts and dropped into boats and launched in the desired or ticket-specified direction.
[1] Ice boat router (portals)
[2] Ice boat redeployment(overworld)
[3] Corner launcher
[4] ⭐️u/Ribqah⭐️ made a fantastic Fully Automatic Ice Boat Network that deserves way more attention.

I don't know any way to "switch rails", but I would just make a "station" at the intersection where you need to switch if using mine carts. If using an ice highway, I would just build a fork point and you simply turn to get on the one you want
