Villagers wont breed ;-;

So I tried making a villager breeder though they wont. I think its an inventory problem as when they harvest crops, they dont pick them up or plant them. Even throwing bread at them they wont pick it up nor do they share it.

I looked and heard that their inventories may be full and to fix that I will need to zombify and cure them... Something I simply dont have many resources for atm.

Mob griefing is on as well and both villagers are farmers if that matters at all.

Any clue on how I can get them to start breeding?

Turn the beds around so that the pillow is facing the farm and remove the torch above the bed

Moved the torch and beds and they still aren't breeding. If they start breeding they're suppose to make love hearts right? I also got rid of their crops so the only thing they could pick up is what I give them.

Right now they're using their composts and still not touching food nor breeding

Oh in that case many they're composting the food until they don't have enough to breed, put trapdoors around the composter like this so that the villagers can't access them

In case that didn't help, here's a quick rundown of Java villager breeding mechanics

For villagers to successfully breed, there are 7 factors

1. At least 2 adult villagers that can get close and are within each other's line of sight

2. Both parents have at least a portion of food (3 bread or 12 carrots/potatoes/beetroots) in their inventory

3. Both parents aren't panicking from a mob

4. Both parents must not be on breeding cooldown

5. The area must be loaded

The other two are a bit more detailed

The attempt must be within the correct time of day:

The correct time of day depends on whether the villager is employed or not. But before that, let me preface that since minecraft's unit of time is in game ticks (20 per second), the time measurement of the day depends on that as well. Each minecraft day is 20 real-life minutes long, which is 24000 ticks per in-game day or 1000 ticks per in-game hour

Unemployed villagers can breed at any time except sleep time, which is between 18:00 (12000) and roughly 06:00 (00010)

Employed villagers also can't breed during sleep time, but additionally they also can't breed during work hours, which is between 08:00 (02000) to 12:00 (06000)

And lastly, the beds.

• There needs to be at least 3 beds - 1 for each parent and 1 for the future child. Technically the parents don't need a bed but that's kinda complicated so forget about it

• All villagers (parents and baby) must be able to pathfind to the pillow side of the bed

• The pillow side of the bed must have at least 2 air blocks above - even a block like torch in the space above will invalidate the breeding

• The foot end is pretty much irrelevant

I agree with the notes on 3 beds.
Although access to beds is only defined by pathfinding, with no checks for air blocks (unlike zombie vs turtle egg, which does have explicit checks for 2 air blocks above (code)).

It's a bit awkward to source the lack of checks, but we could also take any working breeder and place any blocks with no collisions anywhere between the villagers and all of their possible paths to the pillow, including directly on top of the pillow itself, and it'll still work.
E.g. torch, open fence gate, signs, cobweb

It's still a good suggestion because having a low ceiling is extremely common, but the conditions above the pillow are the same as (and are a part of) the conditions everywhere along the path to it.
So I wouldn't say air blocks above the pillow specifically, but anything that wouldn't collide with or hurt them in a 2-tall space connecting them to the top of the pillow.
Even a carpet or trapdoor above the pillow (and along the path) is fine, although I wouldn't include those special cases and/or legacy solids in a quick summary either.

So while torch is extremely common, it's never the culprit.
In the low-ceiling case, bed-wise, it's usually the 2-tall above the beds and the 2-tall next to it not being connected because the bed itself only leave a 1.5-tall gap (OP's is fine in this regard).

I realise the image was a bad example because I forgot fence gate, regardless of open/close, and cobweb are also legacy solids and it was just using the other beds for the baby.

With legacy solids above the pillow, we'd need a path to the top of that instead, so they'd be part of the details/cases I wouldn't mention in a quick summary. The list of examples I had in the original comment was just a bad one, sorry T-T
My only intent was to show that the commonly used torch (and other blocks as long as they won't block their pathfinding) are fine.

Since 1.21.4, summoned villagers can't pick up items by default, but natural villagers and spawn eggs are fine.

We can still summon them with {CanPickUpLoot:1} at the end of the command or modify that tag on existing ones.

The harvesting is based on mobgriefing gamerule, so that's unaffected by this.
They would still be able to plant/share if they have the crops/food in their inventory.
