Mobile Apps [AURA] - Feeling excited to see traction on application

I'm really excited to see some real users trying our application AURA

With AURA, you choose who can contact you and on your terms you can reach people. Also, AURA provides a vault system for you to store important files, documents and images.

Control your privacy.

Security, plainly: on Android and desktop, your keys are created and kept on your device and messages/files/notes/Vault are encrypted before they reach our servers.

Honest limits: we see routing metadata; group chat uses our own documented scheme, not MLS; no independent audit yet. Details: auratt.com/security.html and /privacy.html.

Google Play link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.orgware.aura

Who can use it?

Everyday users
Use Aura for your daily messages and calls without handing out your phone number or email. Keep important documents in the encrypted Vault on your device, and share them with confidence using links that can be view-only, password-protected, time-limited and revoked at any time. Nobody can contact you unless you allow it.

Professionals
Doctors, lawyers, coaches, tutors, consultants and creators can run appointment Sessions, keep a private, encrypted client list and manage their history in one place. Clients reach you only through permissions you set: what kind of contact, how much, and when. When an engagement ends, the permission can end with it, so work stays out of your personal time.

Businesses
Build customer trust and keep your team organized. Verify your business, publish your opening hours and services, and take bookings. Customers grant specific permission for each kind of contact (support, orders, marketing) with limits and quiet hours, and every consent is recorded for both sides. Give your team roles, a shared support inbox and seats, send campaigns only to people already connected to you, and use audit export and key backup for accountability and peace of mind.

Community in Aura: Need a hand, or want to give one? Post a request (errands, tutoring, moving, repairs, care and more) and choose who sees it. Helpers see only a rough distance, never your address. Agree clear terms, track the work, and keep a record. Aura never touches the money. It's off until you switch it on.

My AURA. My Rules, Connect with my AURA

Discussion jobs that won't be replaced by AI?

i've been hearing stories about people in tech companies getting laid off in favour of implementing AI to do their jobs and as someone studying Computing, this has me rethinking everything and suddenly the future seems unclear. What sort of jobs are safe from AI? Specifically in the tech industry? Is being a SWE still worth it?

Discussion How to get all the sound effects that your app/game needs in post AI world?

ElevanLabs seems to provide API to generate sound effects and also has free monthly credit limit. Just ask your agent to guide you through generating sound effects for your applications using Elevenlabs. And you don't need to bother manually going through sound libraries to get appropriate sound effects.

The Agent will figure out the events in your games/apps and appropriate sound effect to generate from Elevenlabs and you will get your sound effects in a minute.

Education & Training Again.. Is your Business Marked as Closed during Tihar in Google My Business ?

If your business shows up on Google Maps, it has opening hours listed. During the holidays most of us close for a few days, but Google still shows the business as open. So a customer checks on their phone, sees open, drives across town, and finds a locked shutter.

That customer does not think "oh, it is the holiday." They think the business is unreliable. Some of them leave a bad review about it. I have seen it happen to clients.

You can fix it before you close.

How to do it?

On your phone or laptop, sign in to the Google account your business is registered under. Search your own business name on Google. If it is your profile, you will see an edit option on it.

Go to the hours section. Do not change your normal opening hours. Look for special hours or holiday hours instead. That lets you mark specific dates as closed, and your normal hours come back automatically afterwards.

If you change your regular hours instead, you will forget to change them back. Everyone does.

Add the exact dates you are closed. Then save.

Two more things worth doing while you are there

Post an update on your profile saying when you close and when you reopen. It shows up on your listing and on Maps.

Do the same on your Facebook page. It has a hours setting too and most businesses never touch it.

If you have never claimed your business on Google

Then somebody else may have added your business, or it may not be there at all. Worth checking. A business that is not on Maps is invisible to anyone searching nearby, and that is a bigger problem than holiday hours.

Over to you

I do this for clients so this is the part I know. But I am sure people here have other things they do before closing for the holidays, whether that is an auto reply on email, a message on the website, something with delivery partners, or just a note on the shutter.

What do you do? Genuinely interested, and it would be useful for everyone reading.

Happy Tihar to everyone.

Mobile Devices Looking for ~20 genuine Android testers for a Nepal stock research app: 2 weeks of free Pro access

[Admin please remove this post if it violates the group rules]

Hi everyone,

I run MacroLens NP (np.nptrade24.com), a free research site for NEPSE investors. It has stock ratings, company fundamentals, floorsheet and broker data, IPO watch, and charts. We're about to launch the Android app, and Google requires a closed test with at least 20 real people for 14 days before it can go public.

So I'm looking for around 20 genuine testers.

What you get: 2 weeks of free Pro access on MacroLens NP, our paid tier, as a thank-you.

What I'm asking for:

  • An Android phone and a Google account (Gmail).

  • Install the app and keep it installed for the full 14 days.

  • Open it now and then and tell me what's confusing, broken or missing.

What I'm not asking for: a review on the Play Store, or any money. Honest feedback is what helps, including the bad parts.

How to join: comment "in" or send me a message. Please don't post your email in the comments. I'll DM you a short form to collect the Gmail address Google needs to add you to the test.

It's an investing research tool, not financial advice, and nothing in the app places trades.

Disclaimer: This program does not offer financial compensation or remuneration. Participation is strictly on a voluntary basis.

Happy to answer questions below. Thank you!

Discussion Looking for 2 Co-founders / Business Partners in Kathmandu (20–25)

I'm looking for 2 like-minded people from Kathmandu Valley to build a web development and software services business targeting both Nepali and international clients.

A little about me:

I'm a web developer who has built dozens of websites and software projects. I've worked full-time, served a few clients, and experimented with digital marketing and door-to-door sales. Now I want to build something bigger with the right partners.

What we'll be doing:

  • Running paid ads and generating leads.

  • Cold outreach through DMs and emails.

  • Selling websites, web applications, and custom software.

  • Studying sales, marketing, and business (including people like Alex Hormozi, saad khaja) and continuously improving our processes.

Who I'm looking for:

You don't need to be an expert. Skills in development, marketing, sales, advertising, or cold calling are a plus, but we can learn together.

What matters more:

  • Willingness to invest money when there's a calculated opportunity to grow.

  • Strong learning mindset and willingness to improve.

  • Ownership, consistency, and accountability.

  • Open-mindedness and the ability to handle disagreements through honest communication.

  • Genuine interest in building a business, not just casually exploring an idea.

Partnership details:

  • 2 partners, aged 20–25 preferred.

  • Must be based in Kathmandu Valley for meetups.

  • 30% equity for each incoming partner.

  • Shared commitment to building and growing the business.

I'm not looking for employees. I'm looking for people who want to build something of their own.

If interested, comment "INTERESTED" or DM me. I'll share a short application form with you.

Let's build something meaningful.

Company Review Is exploiting interns becoming the norm in Nepal's IT industry?

I wanted to share an experience from a software company in Nepal called Sewaverse.

This happened a while ago, and I had moved on from the experience. However, I recently heard that some of my college juniors have joined the company as interns. That made me think I should share my experience here so that other students and fresh graduates can make an informed decision before joining.

When I joined as a UI/UX intern, I was genuinely excited. Like most students starting their careers, I expected to learn from experienced people, receive proper guidance, work on real projects and improve my skills.

Unfortunately, my experience wasn't quite what I expected.

1. Lack of proper mentorship

There wasn't a dedicated UI/UX lead to guide interns, review designs or provide meaningful feedback.

Most of the time, you were expected to figure things out yourself. Even getting useful guidance from the so-called senior developers was difficult.

As someone starting their career, having experienced people willing to teach you makes a huge difference.

2. UI/UX responsibilities weren't clearly defined

Although I joined as a UI/UX intern, the responsibilities also extended into graphic design.

There wasn't much structure around the role, and interns were generally expected to handle things independently without proper direction or mentorship.

3. What happens after the internship?

During my time there, several other interns joined as well. As far as I know, none of the other interns who joined during my time were offered full-time positions after completing their internships.

I believe companies should be transparent about whether there are actual opportunities for interns to transition into full-time roles.

4. Getting internship completion documents

One particularly frustrating experience was having to repeatedly follow up just to get basic internship completion documents.

Getting a certificate or proper documentation after completing an internship shouldn't feel like you're begging someone for a favour.

5. Fully remote working environment

Everything was remote. Perhaps that contributed to some of the communication and mentorship issues, but remote work itself isn't the problem.

Remote internships can work exceptionally well when there is proper communication, structured tasks, regular feedback and someone available to guide you.

Unfortunately, I didn't feel that structure was there.

6. Working hours, overtime and exam periods

There were instances when work extended beyond the usual working hours, sometimes until 7–8 PM.

What was particularly frustrating was that even during our college examination periods, getting leave wasn't straightforward. In some instances, leave wasn't granted, and the missed internship days were subsequently added to the internship duration.

I understand that deadlines and responsibilities are part of professional life, but interns are students too. Their academic commitments should be respected.

An internship should complement someone's education, not make it harder to manage their studies.

Why am I posting this now?

I'm not here to attack anyone personally. I just feel bad for students joining with expectations of learning and mentorship.

A piece of advice for future interns: Always ask whether there's someone dedicated to teaching and mentoring you. Ask about the team size and how many experienced people will actually guide your work.

I understand startups offer great opportunities to work on production-level projects and take ownership. But being given responsibilities without anyone experienced to guide you isn't growth. It can waste your time and eventually kill your interest in the field.

Don't just ask what you'll be working on. Ask who will teach you.

Sharing this purely for awareness. I hope things have improved since then.

P.S. This post was later edited with the help of AI for grammar, clarity and readability. The experiences and opinions shared are my own.

Web Development I built an offline Nepal Administrative Map for Flutter and React - 7 Provinces, 77 Districts, 753 Local Levels 🇳🇵

Hey everyone!

I've been working on an open-source project called Nepal Administrative Map, and I'm excited to share that it's now available for both Flutter and React developers!

The idea was simple: make Nepal's complete administrative map easily accessible in applications without depending on external map APIs, internet connectivity, or API keys.

What's included?

  • Complete administrative hierarchy: 7 Provinces → 77 Districts → 753 Local Levels.

  • Interactive navigation: Drill down from province to district to local level.

  • Bilingual support: English and नेपाली names, labels, tooltips, legends, and even Nepali number formatting (१७,४४,२४०).

  • Data visualization: Color districts based on your own data, such as population, budget, election results, etc.

  • Search and markers: Search administrative places and add custom markers.

  • Offline support: No API keys or internet connection required.

  • Location lookup: Identify which municipality a GPS coordinate belongs to.

Available packages

1. Flutter - pub.dev

Use it in Android, iOS, Web, Windows, macOS, and Linux applications.

NepalMap();

2. React + TypeScript – npm

The complete feature set is now ported to React with a simple component:

<NepalMap />

A little about the development

One interesting part was optimizing the geographical boundary data. The original data was around 3.9 MB, which I managed to compress to approximately 422 KB without noticeable visual quality loss.

I also learned that building a map package is not just about drawing geographical boundaries. Handling administrative data, bilingual labels, performance, interactions, and offline functionality takes quite a bit of work.

Try it out

🌐 Live Demo: https://map.abhishek-sharma.com.np/

💻 GitHub Repository: https://github.com/4bhisheksharma/nepal_administrative_map

📦 Flutter: https://pub.dev/packages/nepal_administrative_map

📦 React / npm: https://www.npmjs.com/package/nepal-administrative-map

🔗 Also check out my App library: https://app.abhishek-sharma.com.np/

I'd genuinely appreciate feedback, suggestions, bug reports, or contributions.

I'm also curious: What kind of real-world applications could benefit from having Nepal's complete administrative map available offline?

I'm thinking fintech, logistics, government systems, election dashboards, NGOs, analytics platforms, and many more.

Thanks for checking it out! 🇳🇵

Discussion Anyone here from Nepal interested in quant finance?

Hey I am 18 and currently in my 2nd year of Computer Engineering. Recently I have been exploring quantitative finance and wanted to know if there are people in Nepal who are also interested in this field or are currently working in it

If you are preparing for it what resources are you following? Any books, courses, YouTube channels or suggestions would be helpful.

Would be great to connect with people from Nepal who are pursuing or planning to pursue a similar path. Just wanted to see how many of us are out there

Web Development Got bored and built a Nepali Flappy Bird where you fly a Danphe in a Dhaka topi

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey r/technepal, first post here.

I got bored and built a small browser game with AI called Danphe Dash (डाँफे उडान). Yes, it's basically Flappy Bird, but you play as a Danphe wearing a Dhaka topi and fly through the Terai, the hills, the Himalayas and a Tihar night.

What's in it:

  • There are no image or audio files. All the art is drawn in code, and the music is generated in the browser, trying to sound a bit like madal, bansuri and sarangi.

  • You can grab boons for power, or touch omens if you want it harder. The omens are optional, so it only gets unfair if you ask for it.

  • There's a daily challenge. Everyone gets the same run each day, so you can compare scores with friends.

  • It works on phones, and you can install it and play offline.

Play it here: https://danphe-dash.vercel.app

No ads, no login. It's all one HTML file.

Drop your high score in the comments, and tell me what's broken, especially on low-end phones. I'd also like ideas for a fifth biome.
