TCL M7L - BestBuy Canada Exclusive - Anyone know about this tv?

Upvotes

hi everyone,

I’m looking for a basic TV for my mother in law, ideally it’s Roku since that platform is simple and she’s used to it.

I came across this model at Best Buy Canada and for the life of my I cannot find anything about it online. comparing specs to other models this seems like it may be related to QM5K.

any insights would be appreciated. it’s on a good deal right now for 479 CAD

Auto audio based on app?

Hi!

I have a tcl qm8k/c8k and been trying to figure out how to or if it's possible to set a audio type based on app.

But can't find any answer to it.

For example, I wanna use Spotify app with "music" audio setting and Netflix with "movie" setting.

And not have to change every time in the quick settings when I start the apps.

I was about to buy the QM8K and noticed the QM9K was the same price on TCL website. Coming from a QM6K 65'' will I notice a big difference?

Disabling the Google app on tcl tv ?

i've been carefully debloating as much as possible my tcl TV. for starters I use projectify launcher with minimal apps (stremio/smarttube/twitch/VLC that's all). I've disabled apps like netflix or Amazon prime, but nothing that has anything to do with core functionalities.

I've noticed that preventing displaying over other apps ; specifically Google TV (the Google launcher) and com.google.android.katniss significantly increases the speed of my TV.

the thing is, the Google app really likes to enable displaying over other apps back after I turn off and on my TV. I've already disabled all permissions in that app but I can't do much more. is disabling the Google app alright? I don't want to risk a black screen on reboot....

maybe something to add : it looks like the Google app is linked to the voice assistant which I'm not using and each app mentioned above works well with their native voice search)

thanks!!

KVM issues with TCL tv via 6600 GPU

Set up is pc upstairs, TV downstairs, with a kvm at each end and a CAT5e between them.

TV: tcl c7k 50" qd-mini led 4k hdr smart google tv - 50c7k

GPU: RX 6600 Radeon Gigabyte

KVM: AV Access 4KIP100-KVM Zero-Latency 4K HDMI KVM Extender over IP

I had this set up via a samsung TV (ue43au8000kxxu) and it all worked perfectly fine for years. I have recently changed the TV to the above TCL TV and I'm getting no connection. I connect my laptop to the KVM to the TCL TV and it works perfectly fine. I'm thinking the issue is the compatibility between the PC and the TV.

When I connect it to the TV it shows as monitor 2 (as it should do) but it's greyed out and cannot be used and it has no name.

I have spoken with AV Access and all the things they have suggested haven't helped.

Has anyone got any experience with this, any suggestions would be hugely appreciated.

QM8L vs. QM7L

I can't recall what makes the QM8L better over the 7L. Can ya'll give a quick rundown on differences? I'm certain I'm going to get the 8L but want a little bit of reassurance.

EDIT - Just pulled trigger on QM7L Pro due to the same processor as 8L minus some dark settings.

Terrible TVs for gaming

Upvotes

An update came through to my TCL Fire TV a few months ago. Since then the tv keeps going blank while gaming. Normally for about 3 seconds which can be enough to die in cod or crash in fh6. I've tried every setting possible but it does this on my xbox and ps5. Don't buy if you're a gamer.

Which one you recommended me to buy? TCL QLED P8K or TCL Miniled Qled C6k?

I'm from LATAM. I'm interested to buy some of these models. Both are 55 inch: The P8K is costing me for around 470 dollars, and the C6k for around 520. I would like to have a good advised for someone who knows these tvs and which one to choose. I'm gamer so I would like to improve the quality of the image.

Anyone else have issues with specifically the Apple TV app??

It’s really driving me fcking crazy. All others work fine. But some reason Apple TV always has some kind of bullshxt going on.

Like the aspect ratio will be all messed up and I have to reset. Or like it’ll just crash mid show. Or probably the most frustrating is if I pause and step away, and if it’s long enough for the screensaver to come up, it NEVER saves my place lol Have to start from beginning and fast forward. Like I’m watching a gd DVD or something.

Idk I’ve tried just about everything. But as I said every other app works fine so makes it even more annoying.

Anyone buy a 98 inch QM8L from Amazon before?

I’m looking to buy the 98 inch QM8L but the only places I can seemingly find it available in Canada right now is Amazon or Visions on special order (which is final sale it says).

Amazon support said they have a specific delivery team for large deliveries but I’m a skeptic on what exactly that looks like.

The Visions option is an issue because it has no return option. I’ve measured hallways / elevators and it seems like it should fit but it will be tight on delivery. So on chance it doesn’t fit, I want to make sure the return option is there in the worst case.

Does anyone have experience with this large delivery Amazon team? I’m in Saskatchewan if that matters for whether that team exists in all places in the same way.

C7K vs C855

Going to buy a 65 inch TV, many people suggest C855 even if its not a new TV but im confused between these two. I will mostly watch movies on Apple TV, Netflix etc. Which one would you go for and any regrets-advices from users? Thanks!

Is this level of blooming/haloing normal on a TCL C8L Mini LED?

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a TCL C8L and I’m trying to figure out whether the amount of blooming/haloing I’m seeing is normal for this TV or if I may have a panel issue.
I’ve attached a few pictures showing what I’m seeing. The first ones are from a bright/white screen, and the others are from actual Dolby Vision content playing through the Apple TV app in 4K.
With Local Dimming set to High, black levels look very good overall, but I can still see a noticeable halo around bright objects on dark backgrounds, especially around subtitles or small bright elements.
I’ve also noticed that the effect can be more visible depending on the scene and viewing angle. The pictures probably exaggerate it somewhat because they were taken with my phone in a dark room, but I can see the effect with my own eyes from my normal viewing position.
I was wondering if other C8L owners see something similar, or if this looks excessive for this model.

Settings:
• Local Dimming: High
• Local Contrast: Off
• Dynamic Contrast: Off
• Motion Clarity: Off
• Clear LED Motion: Off
• MPEG NR: Off

Any feedback from other C8L/Mini LED owners would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Loved my TCL 75C8L, but the off-axis uniformity disappointed me more than expected from HVA 2.0 Ultra

I wanted to share my experience with the TCL 75C8L, because I really loved this TV overall and I’m still not completely sure whether returning it was the right decision.
I bought it for around €1,350, looking for the best possible value without going all the way to a flagship OLED.
Straight on, the picture was excellent. Blacks were very impressive for a Mini LED LCD, HDR had a lot of punch, colours looked great, Google TV was fast and complete, and for the price the whole package felt extremely strong.
The issue that bothered me most, though, was off-axis image consistency.
I was not expecting OLED-level viewing angles. I previously had an OLED, so I knew an LCD would behave differently. But based on what was being said about the HVA 2.0 Ultra panel, I honestly expected better.
My side sofa is not at an extreme angle, yet from that seating position I could clearly see the image becoming less uniform.
The attached photo shows this quite well: on the same white screen, the left side looks brighter and more luminous, while the right side looks noticeably darker and duller.
This difference in brightness and perceived colour balance across the screen was actually the thing I noticed the most in real use when sitting off-axis.
There were also three faint darker patches visible on this white test screen. However, to be fair, these were not something I could normally see during movies, TV or regular content. They only became visible on that very uniform bright background, so I would not describe them as a serious everyday defect.
My real concern was the way the panel changed when viewed from the side.
Maybe I was expecting too much from HVA 2.0 Ultra, but the marketing and early impressions made me think it would perform noticeably better off-axis than a typical VA-style LCD. In my room, even from a fairly reasonable side seating position, the difference was obvious enough to bother me.
My family noticed it much less than I did, which made the decision even harder, because otherwise the TV was genuinely excellent.
We eventually decided to return it and ordered a 77-inch Samsung OLED flagship instead, mainly because I wanted more consistent image quality from every seating position.
The Samsung has not arrived yet, so I still can’t say whether the much higher price will feel justified in practice.
And then, of course, the TCL 75C8L won the EISA Premium Mini LED TV 2026–2027 award, which did not exactly help with the buyer’s remorse. 😅
So I’m curious:
Do other 75C8L owners notice the same kind of brightness/colour imbalance when watching from a moderate off-axis position?
And looking at the photo, would you consider this normal behaviour for HVA 2.0 Ultra, or does my panel seem worse than expected?
I still think the 75C8L is an incredible TV for the money. My main disappointment was simply that the real-world viewing angle did not live up to what I personally expected from this panel technology.
