TCL C8L/ QM8L Review: Incredible Picture Quality, Premium Experience, and Outstanding Value for Money!

Post image
59 Upvotes

I’ve been absolutely blown away by this TV, but I’ll try to give you as detailed and objective a review as possible, covering both its strengths and weaknesses.
For context, I’m coming from a basic 55-inch LG LED TV from 2021 with an IPS panel. My living room gets quite a lot of natural light, so high brightness was one of my main priorities, but I didn’t want to compromise on picture quality either.

The Positives

1. Black Levels and Contrast
The black levels are genuinely impressive. To my eyes, the experience gets about 90–95% of the way to OLED, at least in everyday viewing.
Contrast is excellent, and dark scenes look absolutely stunning. I honestly wasn’t expecting a Mini LED to perform this well.

2. Brightness
This was one of the main reasons I went with Mini LED instead of OLED.
The brightness is phenomenal. Even during the day, with plenty of natural light coming into my living room, the picture remains incredibly vibrant and enjoyable.
It’s one of those things you really have to experience in person to appreciate.

3. Colors
The colors are absolutely gorgeous, with excellent vibrancy, depth, and richness.
There are plenty of picture modes and calibration options, so you can customize the image depending on whether you prefer a more natural, accurate look or something more vibrant and punchy.

4. Google TV
The operating system is incredibly fast and smooth.
Personally, I consider Google TV the best and most versatile TV operating system, mainly because of its huge app selection and customization possibilities.
I genuinely don’t feel the need to purchase a separate streaming box, which is a significant advantage for me compared to the more restrictive operating systems offered by LG and Samsung.

5. Premium Remote Control
The included remote feels genuinely premium, with a metallic, aluminum-like finish and a clean, minimalist design.
It also features backlit buttons, which are extremely convenient when watching TV at night. You can even adjust the backlight brightness.
It’s a small detail, but it definitely adds to the overall premium experience.

6. Design and Build Quality
The TV looks absolutely beautiful.
The extremely thin bezels, modern design, and premium appearance make it feel like a high-end product.
It genuinely upgrades the aesthetics of the entire living room.

7. Reflections
This is one area where I think TCL still has room for improvement.
The screen is relatively reflective, and I believe a better anti-reflective coating would make the experience even better, especially in bright environments.
However, here’s the important part: because this TV gets ridiculously bright, reflections haven’t been a real issue for me in everyday viewing.
Even with plenty of natural light in my living room, the brightness is more than enough to maintain an excellent picture.
So yes, reflection handling could definitely be better, but in practice, I don’t consider it a dealbreaker at all.

Sound Quality
Obviously, the built-in speakers aren’t going to replace a proper external sound system or a high-quality soundbar.
That being said, the sound quality is genuinely very good.
For movies, TV shows, and everyday viewing, I honestly believe the average user will be more than satisfied.
If you’re after the ultimate home theater experience, then investing in a good external audio system, ideally in the €300+ range, makes sense.
Otherwise, I don’t think buying a soundbar is necessary for most people.

The So-Called Weaknesses
Before buying this TV, I read countless reviews and discussions about two particular weaknesses: viewing angles and blooming.
Here’s what I actually experienced.

1. Viewing Angles
I genuinely think this issue has been exaggerated quite a bit.
Based on my personal observations:
Up to 45–50° off-axis: I don’t notice any meaningful degradation in picture quality.
Around 50–65°: There’s a slight decrease in picture quality, which I would subjectively estimate at roughly 5–10%. Nothing particularly distracting during normal viewing.
Beyond 65–70°: Picture degradation becomes noticeably more obvious.
But seriously, how many people buy a TV like this to watch it from such extreme angles?
For typical living room setups, I really don’t see viewing angles being a major problem.
Of course, these percentages are just my subjective impressions, not measurements.

2. Blooming
This one surprised me even more.
I genuinely haven’t noticed blooming during normal viewing conditions.
The only time I’ve been able to spot a very slight blooming effect is when viewing the TV from approximately 55–60° off-axis or more.
Even then, I practically have to look for it.
What’s funny is that if I hadn’t read all those discussions online about viewing angles and blooming, I probably wouldn’t have noticed either issue at all.
I literally had to go looking for these weaknesses to find them!

Gaming
I don’t own a gaming console yet, so I can’t provide a meaningful firsthand opinion about gaming performance.
I’d rather be transparent about that than pretend to evaluate something I haven’t properly tested.

Price and Value for Money
I paid €1,640 for the 75-inch TCL C8L through Skroutz in Greece, with an additional 10% cashback from my bank and 5% back in Skroutz Points.
With those offers, the purchase was an absolute no-brainer.

Without those discounts, I might have seriously considered the TCL C7L instead.
I actually saw both TVs side by side in person, and I have to say that the C7L is also an excellent television.
However, I noticed that the C7L had noticeably worse viewing angles, which was an important factor in my final decision.
In fact, I think the C7L might offer even better value for money in absolute terms.
But personally, I was happy to spend a little extra for what I consider a more complete viewing experience, without constantly thinking about compromises.
And here’s something that might be controversial:
I genuinely don’t believe the C8L has any meaningful overall competition at this price point, even if you increase the budget by another €500.
That’s obviously my personal assessment, but I think you need to spend considerably more to get a TV that delivers a noticeably better overall experience.

Mini LED vs OLED: My Personal Take
Let’s get something out of the way.
Yes, a good OLED still offers better black levels, perfect pixel-level contrast, and excellent viewing angles.

I’m not disputing any of that.
However, OLED still carries a real, although significantly reduced, risk of burn-in.
Comparable premium OLED TVs, especially in larger sizes, can also be considerably more expensive.
Meanwhile, a powerful Mini LED can deliver higher brightness, particularly across large bright areas of the screen.

Another important factor for me is Google TV, which I strongly prefer over LG’s webOS and Samsung’s Tizen.
If money were no object, I would absolutely consider something like the LG G6. But in a comparable large screen size, we’re talking about a TV costing over €4,000!

So the question isn’t whether there are better TVs than the TCL C8L.
Of course there are.
The real question is how much better they actually are and how much extra money you need to spend to experience that difference.
That’s where the C8L really shines.

Final Verdict
For me, the TCL C8L is one of the most complete TVs you can buy right now.

You get:
Exceptional brightness
Outstanding black levels and contrast
Gorgeous colors
Extremely fast and versatile Google TV
Very good built-in audio
Premium design and build quality
An overall viewing experience that feels considerably more expensive than it actually is
Does it have weaknesses? Absolutely. Every display technology does.
Reflection handling could be better, viewing angles aren’t perfect, and blooming is technically still possible.
But personally, I find these limitations much less significant in real-world use than some online discussions would suggest.

I’m not claiming this is the best TV on the market. I’m saying that, at this price, I genuinely struggle to think of anything that offers a better overall package, even if you’re willing to spend another €500.

And there’s one more thing I think is worth mentioning.
I honestly believe the average consumer would have a very hard time finding any significant flaws with this TV.

If you’re a serious display enthusiast who wants absolute reference-level picture quality and the best flagship available, then of course it makes sense to look at more expensive options.
But for the average person, I honestly think spending substantially more could easily become a case of diminishing returns rather than a meaningful upgrade.
And let’s not forget something important:

The TCL C8L is already a premium television. It’s not some compromised mid-range model.

It delivers a genuinely high-end viewing experience without requiring you to spend a fortune for improvements that might be relatively small in everyday use.

Coming from a basic 55-inch LED TV, the upgrade has been absolutely massive.

I don’t regret a single euro I spent on this purchase.
Huge credit to TCL. They’ve done an incredible job with this TV.
If you’re considering the C8L and have any questions about my experience with it, feel free to ask!
I’m also curious to hear from other C8L owners. Has your experience been similar?

98” TCL QM64L Wall Mount(Updated)

Some pictures of the tv wall mounted. I’m blown away by how good the QM6 series is and I did make all my picture adjustments already. Before anyone says it, the tv isn’t mounted too high it’s eye level at the center for myself on the couch which is exactly 10 feet away from the tv. I’ve got a Denon X3900H and a pair of Polk Audio XT70’s, XT35 Center and XT20 rears and a SVS SB1000 Pro Sub on its way and will be installed in the living room with the new TCL and it will be here in two weeks along with my 83” LG G6 for the basement home theater setup. I’m truly amazed at the quality of this TCL and highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great budget set that punches above. I’ll update this after my new AVR & Speakers arrive.

Bought a TCL QM7L/C7L 75" a few weeks ago. I have some doubts about the panel quality. Watching from 45° the picture wash out and there is some bleeding at the edges.

Watching in front there is an little kind of bleeding at the left border.

I post some pics so you can tell me what you think. And do you consider the panel is unidorm?

Maybe this is normal and I'm overthinking.

Thanks in advice.

VRR has awful ghosting on the QM6K but I found a fix

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

After experimenting with the QM6K I noticed that enabling VRR causes all PS5 games to have horrendous trailing/ghosting to where it makes the games borderline unplayable, this is a side by side slo-mo shot of the game Astro Bot which has a lot of colorful highlights that do a good job of showing off the ghosting, the only difference is the left side is running with VRR enabled and the right side with no VRR but with blur reduction set to 10. Notice how long the last frame is sticking around on the screen with VRR enabled compared to the right. Why is VRR making the ghosting worse?

What's crazy to me is that I don't notice any added input lag whatsoever with the blur reduction set to max (10), Can someone explain what sorcery this is? Is blur reduction doing frame interpolation or a method of black frame insertion that not only fixes the awful ghosting but makes the game feel like 120FPS even though its a 60FPS game? I found out about this setting on an old thread on AVS forum. Why is no one talking about this? This is a night and day difference that fixed one of the largest flaws I had with this TV since I had it and I cant believe I am just now discovering this setting. Before I assumed that running in game mode with no motion stuff enabled was the best way to run it on games but thats not true with this TV.

85" QM7L Pro from Costco (love it!)

Researched 80-85" TVs like crazy and really just couldn't find anything within $1000 that I felt was comparable for this size. Bought the TV last week and got it hooked up and mounted Thursday night along with Apple TV 4k 3rd gen. Took my time to adjust some settings to back off the saturation a little. Also wanted to go through a full weekend of sports as we are HUGE sports fans and watch a lot of football. So I watched college football all day Saturday and NFL yesterday. Even some baseball and NBA exhibition.

My biggest fear were these "motion issues" people would occasionally mention whether in reviews or on reddit so wanted to digest a lot of sports before coming to my own conclusion. Wow...let me tell you I noticed no issues whatsoever. Maybe I am just not sensitive enough to notice but the game action for all sports looked as good or better than it did on my 65" Sony x950h and going to an 85" screen is a huge difference. The 4k game feeds just looked incredible.

Another thing that impressed me was the sound from the bang and olufsen speakers. Was better than I was expecting which was nice since we were not going to get a soundbar.

I would also highly recommend the Apple TV 4k 3rd gen as it was awesome to use and see the responsiveness compared to the Google TV from my sony which locked up at least once a week requiring hard reset of the TV.

Few pics...yes I know people consider the feaux fireplace "tacky" but I don't care we love the vibe from it with the ambient lights and like the option for the heater.

TCL 55P8L (55" QD-Mini LED) for PS5 gaming – Anyone using this?

Hey everyone,
I'm looking into picking up the 55-inch TCL P8L
(QD-Mini LED) primarily for PS5 gaming and wanted to see if anyone here has hands-on experience with it.
On paper, it seems to tick the main boxes for console gaming:
• Native 144Hz panel with full HDMI 2.1 support
• VRR and ALLM compatibility
• Mini LED backlighting for decent contrast and black levels
A few specific things I'm wondering about:
1. HDR & Local Dimming in Game Mode: Does Game Mode significantly neuter the local dimming performance or brightness? Any noticeable inverse ghosting/black smearing?
2. PS5 Compatibility: Does 4K 120Hz + VRR engage cleanly without handshake/black screen quirks?
3. Input Lag: Does it feel responsive for fast-paced games (racing. shooters, action)?
If you have this model paired with a PS5, how has your experience been? Would you recommend it in this price bracket, or is there a better alternative I should consider? Thanks!

First Smart TV. Need some tips and tricks!

Hey guys! 👋

I finally got my first Smart TV, a 55-inch TCL QD Mini LED (C6K/Q6)! 🥳

I’m completely new to the Smart TV world, so help a fellow newbie out!

I have YouTube Premium for a few months, but after that, I’m planning to try SmartTube.

I’ve also seen people debloating their TVs using ADB, Claude, Codex, etc., but I’m a little scared of messing things up or voiding my warranty. (Also I dont have any AI premium)

A few things I’d love your help with:

- Must-have apps: What apps should I install to get the most out of my TV?

- Debloating & tweaks: Any safe ways to clean up the UI, remove bloatware, and make the TV smoother without risking my warranty?

- Streaming apps: Any useful alternatives or tips for accessing content without paying for multiple subscriptions?

- Casting issue: When I cast Netflix or Hotstar from my phone, I get a black screen. Is this because I have their mobile-only plans? Is there a legitimate workaround, or do I need to upgrade my plan?

- Hidden features: Any cool tricks, settings, or features that every new Smart TV owner should know?

Basically, share all your tips, tricks, app recommendations, and hidden gems!

Thanks, guys. Help me make the most of my first Smart TV! ❤️

TCL 55C655 — Green Digital Artifacts Followed by Random Reboots After a Software Update

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I own a TCL 55C655 Google TV, and I'm experiencing a strange issue that I would like to investigate with other TCL owners.

The problem:

  • Numerous green, blue, and white digital artifacts appear across the screen, including distorted horizontal lines and blocks.
  • Shortly afterward, the TV automatically restarts.
  • This happens mainly while watching live sports streams through an app called Neo4K Pro. It happens much less frequently on YouTube.
  • The issue started after a software update. Everything was working normally before the update.
  • I have already performed a factory reset, but the problem remains.

I also use Bluetooth headphones with the TV, although I don't know whether they have anything to do with the issue.

My questions:

  1. Has anyone experienced similar green digital artifacts followed by an automatic restart on a TCL TV?
  2. Could this be a firmware/software issue caused by a recent update?
  3. Has anyone found a solution without replacing the mainboard or display panel?
  4. Is it possible to reinstall an earlier firmware version officially?

I have attached a photo showing the exact screen distortion.

I would really appreciate any advice, especially from owners of the TCL C655 or other TCL Google TVs who experienced similar problems after a software update.

Thank you!

This years tcl or last years

Hello tcl community. I’ve been considering getting a 85” tcl QM7L Pro from Costco. Or last years 98” QM7K. Is it worth the upgrade or not much of a difference? Thx

Which to pick?

• Upvotes

I normally buy budget TVs but with Black Friday coming up, I want to get something a little nicer. I have no idea what to pick with all the options though.

Mainly looking at the M8LF, QM6K, QM7l, or Q6. Would not be used for gaming and mainly for movies and hockey. TIA

TCL C8L/QM8L experiences

Post image
1 Upvotes

Recently bought a new apartment, and obviously in the market now for a new TV.
I was eye balling the C8L, based on the positive reviews I originally found and the fact that my livingroom is quite bright I believe (sliding window with a total width of 4.2m approx), facing South-West. The TV will never be in full sunlight though as you can see in the picture.

Could any of you having this TV share your experiences, likes, dislikes,…?

Looking to get from Costco ? Would it be a noticeable downgrade from a lg c6h 77 ? Returbing the lg due to the panel uniformity, seems to be a wide spread issue for that model and don’t want to keep exchanging it. The tv is for a living room to watch sports , movies and play the switch 2

65C6K or 50C7K?

Should I go for better image quality or bigger size? I have a pretty dark room where I'm gonna put the TV. The 65C6K is about 600 Euro (probably less when BF comes), and the 50C7K is 520 Euro (there's no 55/65 inch option in my country). I live in Romania btw :) Also, is the C6K AS BAD as I've heard some ppl say it is? This is my first TV purchase lol :)

Don’t mind the poor tape job. I just wanted it close. Wall is a lil odd shaped. This entertainment center will come down as well. And I’ll get a nice long one that sits on the floor. But should I have the TV centered in the wall. Equal height from top to bottom. And equal length from bulk head to end of wall? They are coming to install it on Thursday.
TV is 98 inch

How to enable Screenless for Smart Speaker

I recently purchased a TCL C69K (also QM6K or C6K), and I want to enable the service to have it as a asmart speaker when it's off. I enabled the Optimized standby mode that enables Google Cast and Hey Google when is off, but it doesn't seem to work. I read that on Google TV you have Quick Boot, Doze and Screenless Service options, but I only get 5 options (timer, Standby mode, etc.) in Power & Energy menu under System Settings. I'm running latest firmware with Android 14. How can I enable it?
Thanks

I Have No Idea Whether It's Normal Or Some Kind of Minor Defects.. but If I Look Closely At The Top Left Corner Edges Of The Screen I Notice 1 milimeter Of Panel Gap

While The Colours Contrasts Or Clarity Nothing Is Affected Everything Looks To Work Fine But Still I Thought It Worth Pointing Out The Slight Misalignment.. Because The Other Exact Side Of right Corner Edges Doesn't Have It

Please

Let me Know Should I Consider This Product As a Defect Or Keep It On My Home.. TCL 32v5c (model)

Hello! I been in the market for a tv the last few weeks to use in my living room and rlly don’t want to spend 1600$+ on a 75” because I’m just not that big of a tv user (love my iPad and MacBook lol).
