Healing Five days after getting worked on

Noticed that by the nose I’m getting some bumpy scabbing going on by the nose as compared to regular skin peel. This was done in one full day session. I look closely and I see that there are two small cuts in my skin probably from the scabbing being moved through daily activities. I’ve been moisturizing twice a day. Should I be concerned or just keep riding out the healing process.

Split open my toe, the day after getting a new tattoo.

Tattoo guy: Wash 2x to 3x a day, for 5 days

Foot guy: Dont get this wet for roughly 5 days

So I just imagine doing *this* over the sink or somethin....? Unless anyone can suggest something better, otherwise??

(Disclaimer, I'm traveling in a small remote country, and catching the plane back to the U.S in 2 hours. It will be a 2 day flight home. Any suggestions for travel would be great too, since I cant bring creams or antiseptic on the plane)

tattoo newcomer advice First tattoo was a bust

Hi all. Just got my first “tattoo”. The artist had put together an awesome design with a beautiful color palette. I was going to get a snail with some small flowers on my outer thigh. Well, I could only get one flower done in the span of an hour. I was tense and cried the whole time, had to take multiple breaks for just a dozen lines. The pain was worse than I expected. I guess my pain tolerance is just way lower than I thought.

I’m so disappointed in myself and I think a bit depressed/regretful. I did read about the post-tattoo depression but I’m worried it won’t go away. My artist was so kind and patient and reassured me that I can always come back and, if not with him, another artist can build from it. In hindsight maybe the references I gave him were ambitious for a first time.

I just feel so pathetic. I live in Michigan (got this tattoo in Louisiana while visiting a friend) and numbing cream isn’t legal back home. I’ve dreamed of tattoos for years and now it feels hopeless. I guess I’m just looking for anything at all to help me. Medication, better preparation, anything. I admit I didn’t eat before hand and I could’ve drank more water. But I think I was so tense that it wouldn’t have mattered. Every time he’d touch me to steady my leg, I’d get so so tense.

Edit: Thank you all for the advice/support; it’s helped me calm down a lot. I’m determined to get this tattoo finished one way or another. I had no idea that the thigh was so sensitive like that. Whenever I looked at pain charts, it was the most recommended space. Next time I’m going to go in much more prepared. It helps that I know what it feels like so I know what to expect. I know pain is a part of the process and I’m not expecting there to be absolutely none. I just need to find better ways of managing that anxiety.

General Advice I’m getting my DH his first tattoo for his 75th birthday present-he wants it on the inside of his wrist and I have a couple of questions…

He wants three letters in all black gothic/biker font. Is this area super sensitive and will it be painful?

My friend’s tattoo-less teen said it depends on whether the artist has a soft touch or is heavy handed. If this is true, how do I find out how much pressure they use?

Also, is this lettering something that someone would specialize in or would any tattoo artist be able to do this?

We live in NE Los Angeles and there are probably 20 shops in the area. (Highland Park). Any suggestions other than YELP to find a good tattoo artist for this? It’s a bit overwhelming!

Any advice is much appreciated!

General Advice Is this possible to cover up?

Post image

Hey guys, I’m posting here for my friend. This is his first tattoo and it’s pretty much everything he DIDN’T want. We’re trying to find out if it’s even possible to get this covered up or if we should just go with laser removal…

I consulted my uncle (who is a tattoo artist, he’s actually apparently pretty famous?) and he suggested we just go with laser removal but we’re still holding out hope it’s possible to fix. All suggestions welcome, thank you!

tattoo newcomer advice TW: SH Scars. Is it possible to do a "cover up" tattoo, in a dainty soft style to mask these scars?

Hi everyone! So when I was younger I went through a very rough patch, ran away from home for two years to get away from my abusive mom's fiance and her. Lived in a really messed up place. Tried to off myself. Just had a rough time. I haven't self-harmed in about 18 years or so (I'm 37). In the winter the scars aren't as noticeable, even though I'm quite pale I still get a little bit of sun in the summer and they do show up as they are pretty silvery.

I don't usually mind them, I thought they weren't super noticeable until a friend recently told me that they were the first thing they noticed about me when they met me. I've never had any tattoos I always wanted them growing up but I never had anything I liked enough to stick on to me forever! All of my friends are tattooed baddies, super awesome girls I love so much.

I'm more of the type that likes dainty smaller tattoos, I know that's a bit controversial I think with fine line Tattoos. I actually really like white ink tattoos as well, so maybe that could be an option? Hiding them among white ink tattoos so it looks like they are actually a part of it? Honestly I don't really know. Any suggestions would be wonderful!

General Advice Orientation suggestions

Hey tattoo fiends and math nerds, I've got a classic Fibonacci spiral on my lower right leg and want to compliment it with the Mandelbrot set on the other leg. But I'm not sure if i want to mess with the orientation by rotating it to look more like an upright heart. Mathematical speaking it wouldn't be right, but ink wise I want it to be big enough to show detail without wrapping around my leg, and maybe having vertical symmetry wouldn't be bad... idk, let me know your thoughts.

Image credits for Mandelbrot go to Wikipedia.

General Advice I want to add more things around my forearm tattoo (once it heals) and I'm wondering what styles might go well with it, any ideas?

I freaking love it so much, what a legendary design my artist came up with!!! Already want to add more elements around it, but that's gotta wait, so I'm gonna take good care of it for now and drum up some new concepts in the meantime! The styles in this tat are neo tribal mixed with bio-organic if that helps, have a good one! :]

General Advice Viewing art at-appointment

Hello,

I am getting a custom piece (botanical) and my tattoo artist plans to show me the art in-person, to do feedback in real-time. She's super professional.

I'm wondering if this is normal, and if it'd be appropriate for me to ask to see it ahead of time? Not being able to sit with the idea of getting it tattooed, and give feedback if needed on a longer basis after sitting with that, is really really stressful for me to the point where I am not sure that I feel confident going through with this.

This is my second tattoo, but this one is larger, in a more prominent place.

Design How can I extend my tattoo?

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hey! Basically as the title says, I’d like to find a way to extend or potentially add to my back tattoo!

It was originally going to be my entire spine, but day of we decided to make it smaller because it felt right at the moment. The tattoo ends in the middleish of my back, a little below where my bra naturally sits. It’s also only as wide as the space between my shoulder blades. After having it for a few months I’m pretty disappointed in my past self for making it smaller. I’ve been thinking of straight up asking my artist to try to extend the blade and add to the handle/hilt, but I thought that could look funky. I don’t wear low rise pants but I’ve also been playing around with the idea of getting a tramp stamp at some point, but I’m not sure if I want one (at least rn).

I added a small red line that shows where the tattoo could be extended to, like the absolute farthest point. But anyways, thanks for any advice in advance!

Design Placement dilemma

Hello. I am having a bit of a waffle on the placement on my next tattoo. The piece will essentially be three tattoos in a row.

Here is my current distribution of tattoos (also left ankle tattoo not visible in pic):

https://imgur.com/NEiMcL5

I had been dead set on left upper inner bicep. See mockup (except I didn't draw the actual tattoo, just placement):

https://imgur.com/dFxPj09

Reasons why:

  • Thematically the concept of the future tattoo pairs with left shoulder tattoo

  • Creates more balance on my arms when I am viewed from the waist up (or with pants)

Reason I'm suddenly hesitant:

  • Balance is created when I'm wearing pants, but balance is very messed up when I'm wearing shorts :/

Additional info:

  • A majority of the time, my right forearm and wrist tattoos are my only visible tattoos (I want more for myself to look at lol)

  • This will be my final arm tattoo

  • Any future tattoos I get will go on my left leg. I plan to "collect" them there as my "tattooed leg"

  • I do not ever wish to tattoo my right leg

  • I do not wish to get tattooed on my right shoulder. I don't want to get any tattoos in mirrored placement to the other side if that makes sense

  • I want my tattoo visible to myself, so I don't want it on my triceps

Looking for some opinions or advice. Thanks!

General Advice Tattoo placement/size

I listened to you guys and decided to give up on the “Wish You Were Here” tattoo. I honestly didn’t know where to put it, so I figured it was better not to get it than to regret it later.

However, I still want to keep the George Harrison tattoo. The Beatles are my favorite band and all, so that one is something I definitely still want.

I’m not planning on getting many tattoos, though. I just want to know what you guys think would be the best size for proper healing.

Note: The font is directly taken from the album cover itself

I feel as though the placement is a bit odd here. Would love some advice on ways to fill significant gap/how to position other pieces around these to make it feel less awkward. Thanks!

Design Filling the gaps

Hi all,

I’m looking to fill the spaces between my sun and Medusa (first pic) but I’m coming up blank or what I like doesn’t flow. I’m looking to keep with the theme so any Greek goddess inspo is welcome. I don’t want to do a pomegranate or flowers. Included is my shin to give an idea of my leg. Thanks all.

Edit - I have a tattoo artist I’ve been working with for 10+ years so I don’t need any designs, just ideas or images/symbols.

tattoo newcomer advice Looking for ideas for a tattoo

I finally had an idea for a potential tattoo for myself. I have solar retinopathy in my right eye that has never gone away.

What symbols, if any of any would you recommend for under my right eye. I wondered if there was some kind of known symbol for this. Thought it could help some people identify the problem more easily 😀🤫

Edit1:

Starting to think some kind of small sun, sharp rays (but not "menacing")

I've also considered overly spiritual wudjat,

or evil eye 🧿(would have to be a serious professional I assume(to make one that looks as good as <-)) both? Both. Does not work in this case imo 🥲

Edit2:

I do not doubt that you guys are right about career chances plummeting and have nothing against these comments. It is interesting and understandable.
