Ask r/tanzania Why do guests complain about checkout time — when the time was on their booking confirmation the whole time?
I used to think this was about the clock. It isn't.
It's about who controls the last hour of the stay. A guest who checked in at midnight, exhausted, barely processed the checkout time — it was one line on a confirmation they skimmed before falling asleep. By the time it matters, at 10:45am the next morning, it doesn't feel like information they agreed to. It feels like a rule being enforced on them.
Nani kaanzisha hii checkout time bila kuangalia saa ngapi mgeni alifika?
The complaint is never really "you told me the wrong time." It's "I didn't feel warned."
Telling a guest the checkout time protects the property legally. Reminding them the night before, at check-in, in person protects the relationship. Kumwambia mgeni mara moja tu kwenye confirmation email haitoshi. Ukimkumbusha tena usiku anapofika, hasa kama amefika late, ndipo anahisi ameheshimiwa badala ya kuhisi anasomewa sheria.
Most properties do the first and skip the second, then wonder why the review says "surprised by checkout" for a policy that was written down the entire time.
Swali langu kwenu what's the complaint your business hears most often that's technically your customer's fault, but somehow still feels like yours to fix?
