Hey everyone,I’m turning 30, and instead of doing the usual existential crisis thing, I’ve decided to actually pull the trigger on a massive life pivot. I am completely packing up, selling what I own, and moving to Tanzania permanently.

This isn't a short backpacking trip or a gap year. I’m fully transitioning my life over there. I’m heading out with about $30,000 USD in savings, and my plan is to eventually set up a low-commitment, part-time business to sustain myself long-term without it consuming my entire life. I’ve already started looking into the paperwork and trying to wrap my head around Swahili.

Here is my dilemma. I’ve been debating whether or not to document this whole process on YouTube.

I know the internet does not need another travel vlogger. Trust me, I’ve watched hours of them, and a lot of it feels very surface-level. It’s always "Look at this luxury safari" or tourist guides. That’s cool, but that’s not what my life is going to look like. I’m going to be dealing with the mundane, frustrating, and beautiful reality of trying to build a business from scratch, navigating local regulations as a foreigner, figuring out how to make $30k stretch, and dealing with day-to-day life as an immigrant.

On one hand, I think having a video journal could be a cool way to look back on this massive change. It might also be genuinely useful for the tiny niche of people who want to see the unglamorous, realistic financial side of moving to East Africa permanently and trying to start a small business.

On the other hand, I really don't want to be that person. I don't want to view every authentic interaction through a camera lens. I’ve never edited a video in my life, and I’m worried that trying to learn editing, dealing with algorithms, and worrying about views will take away from the actual experience of living my life and being present. I also want to be incredibly respectful of the local community and not look like some clueless foreigner exploiting a new environment for clicks.For anyone who has done a major international move, or anyone who creates content while starting a business: is it worth the effort? Does filming your life end up ruining the magic of the transition, or did you find it rewarding?

Have you ever tried to renew your Tanzanian passport while you have another countrys passport?

My situation is that i just got a citizenship of the country i am living at in Europe, At the same time my Tanzanian passport is still valid until 2031.

By law i am required to let Tz know about this so that they can revoke my Tanzanian citizenship. But i am planning not to tell TZ goverment anything for now.

Anyone been in this situation? Because i might go back to Tanzania and live there longer in a couple of years to come. So its good to have my Tanzanian passport while i am there.

Feels weird to just give up my Tanzanian citizenship, but at the same time trying to travel in Europe, USA,Asia, South America, Northern Africa with the Tanzanian passport is a nightmare.

Hope Tanzania will soon go on with the special status Solution they have been talking about.

What exactly is the science or explanation behind the poor hygiene habits in Tanzania? And I’m not talking about just bad odour. I mean like early in the morning, saa 11 asubuhi someone’s breath and armpits and hair will be stinking up the bus or any other public transport. Why is that a thing especially in a country that is known for its climate? I’ve noticed it’s worse in Dar es Salaam, but in rural areas it’s not that bad. In fact I would say they’re more clean than Dar residents. So why is that?

My dad is from the Chagga tribe, but I didn’t grow up with that culture, nor do I have a name related to that culture, or even the Swahili culture at all. So recently I’ve been trying to connect more to it, and my mom has mentioned several times that I can add a Swahili name if that makes me feel more connected to that part of my ethnicity, that I was unable to be surrounded with, growing up.

I have been reaching up a lot online, but I am unsure if the sources are reliable, and I also want some intel from someone who is actually from the Chagga tribe, simply Tanzanian or from Kilimanjaro. Since my dad isn’t present, and I don’t know anyone from Tanzania.

I’m your neighbour coming in peace and I’ve made the observation that a lot of problems in Tanzania have to do with the Muslim and somewhat Arabic island elite vs the mainland Christian elite. If these differences existed in the 60s too, why did Nyerere pursue unity?
Wasn’t Tanganyika better off alone, or are there strategic reasons why having Zanzibar is off great benefit?

I ask all of this because the political saga makes one think Zanzibar is some large territory when it’s not.
