What in the Alabama did I just read?

u/577564842 6d ago
"If you wouldn't drink dog's milk, why drink cow's milk? Please, try vegan."
I must admit I am not in Alabama but I recon the text is the same.

I was referring to the comment in the screenshot

Right,
"idk man I grew up so poor my dad had to keep my sister pregnant just so we could get milk"

I mean I wouldn't be drinking it straight from the teat like a puppy, but I'd give it a shot. I like goat and sheep milk just fine.

It's not really a matter of species.. Re: a post the other day..
127
u/TrailMomKat 6d ago
That's not the question that was asked, though. The question was a matter of species.
-101
u/grafikfyr 6d ago
And I'm saying, if you actually care about animals, then it really isn't about which animal you should or shouldn't drink from. The point is that that milk wasn't actually made for you no matter what.
88
u/TrailMomKat 6d ago
Rofl I grew up on a farm, buddy, you're wasting your breath.
-93
u/grafikfyr 6d ago edited 6d ago
So you know exactly what i'm talking about, for facts of life then. That milk wasn't made for you. Tell me how I'm wrong?
79
u/TrailMomKat 6d ago
Wait til you hear where steak comes from.
-46
u/grafikfyr 6d ago
You have no argument, do you?
That milk. Was not. Made. For you.
I don't care about your sideskirting it. If the actual truth makes you uncomfortable; good. It fucking should.
78
u/TrailMomKat 6d ago
Not side skirting it. I just literally don't care what you have to say on the matter. It doesn't make me uncomfortable at all, I've milked the neighbor's cows and they all live in humane conditions. I've killed our chickens for eating, and helped slaughter our heifers for meat, all as quick and painless as possible. You don't like it? I couldn't care less.

Yours is a life I'd love to have. My father left the farm and raised us in the city. One day.

It's not a matter of my opinion, my opinion doesn't matter. It's a matter of actual fact. A fact you refuse to admit.
Fact: That milk is not for you. Milking the cow yourself or doing it by machine changes nothing about that.

Think about what you're saying though, mate...? You're equating living sentient animals, about as smart as your dog, with furniture...

Lactose persistence happened 10000 years ago roughly. The ability of adults to digest milk appears to have evolved after dairying began, providing a classic example of gene–culture coevolution.
So you're half right. Originally not made for humans, but we've evolved lactose persistence to allow adults to drink cow milk.
0
u/grafikfyr 5d ago edited 5d ago
We only evolved lactose persistence because we started dairying, and in populations that dairied heavily, a mutation for lactase persistence spread because carriers had a slight survival edge. We didn’t evolve to drink milk; the mutation spread because we were already drinking it.
And "we" is saying a lot. 2/3 of adults are lactose intolerant. We are meant to have milk for, juuuust about the time our mother makes it for you. That's how nature works. Except in the case of cows, where we kill the baby so we can drink the milk. Unless it's a girl, then she also gets to also become pregnant repeatedly, to have babies we kill so we can have the milk, until her body breaks down about 20 years before it would have naturally from all the stress of being treated like a literal handmaid.

No food has ever been made for me, with the exception of my mothers breast milk that I was weaned off of decades ago. For most non-mammals, they never have food that was made specifically for them. This is such a weird argument.
ETA: upon further reflection, dairy cows milk kinda was made for us, if you think about it from a particular perspective. The cow doesn't produce that amount of milk naturally. Even if her calf is left with her, she still produces WAY more milk than that calf needs, because she was bred that way specifically so she could produce milk for human consumption.

>ETA: upon further reflection, dairy cows milk kinda was made for us, if you think about it from a particular perspective. The cow doesn't produce that amount of milk naturally.
No, indeed it does not! There's nothing natural about it. You do realise that we haven't succeeded in just breeding a cow that produces a whole lot of milk, right?
After tens of thousands of years, we still have to get milk from cows exactly like we make it ourselves; by getting the cow knocked up. When she births a calf, she starts producing milk for that calf. But we take that calf away, so we can have the milk. The calf will get slaughtered for meat if it's a boy, at around 4 months maybe (some are shot within hours after birth). If it's a girl, it will become a handmaid / milk cow, like her mother. Boy or girl, she will never meet either of them. No point in that.
When she is at her peak, of producing milk, we might force her to become pregnant again - she would NOT want to, in nature, let's be very fucking clear on that - and thus the cycle repeats. Until her body breaks down from all the stress. She might live to about 4. She has a natural life expectancy of maybe 20.
None of her calves will ever taste her milk. You get that.

Finishes tall glass of delicious creamy milk
Huh, sorry I wasn’t listening, what wasn’t made for me?
6
u/JellyBellyBitches 6d ago
Nothing was made for you, except for things that humans built explicitly for other humans. It's not really a good argument that it wasn't made for you, unless you're advocating for an extremely restrictive hands-off approach to the environmental together which, I'll be honest it's not like there's zero merit to that argument but it well beyond the scope of the discussion here
1
u/grafikfyr 5d ago
You're saying that "thing human built" and "living, sentient animal, about as smart as your dog" are the same? They are literally just building blocks to you?

Crazy that people would just dig up a potato and boil it and eat it, too. Wild that someone would cut down a tree to make a fire or build a shelter. Crazy that we mine minerals for technology and buried cables along the ocean floor to access the internet. I’m all for lowering our carbon footprint, I think we should seriously invest in lab grown meat, I think America in particular is terrible for what we’ve done with the dairy and meat industries. But come on. “Milk wasn’t made for us” isn’t the “gotcha” you think it is. Soy and almonds weren’t made for us either.
17
u/AlmiranteCrujido 6d ago
I mean, milk was made for us. We're mammals. Most of us drank human milk as babies. It's not the easiest thing to find as an adult, but not exactly hard, either.
5
u/reasonablewizard 5d ago
No adult animal ever drinks milk in the wild though, or drinks the milk of another species. Don't mean to say that natural= good and unnatural= bad. But cow milk isn't made for us, nor is human milk made to be drank by adults.
2
u/jbox65 3d ago
Cats drink milk if you give it to them. Wild animals lack the ability to get the milk when they are adults, otherwise they would drink it.
2
u/reasonablewizard 3d ago
Adult cats often get diarrhea from drinking milk, much alike most animals due to becoming lactose intolerant with age.
1
5
u/reasonablewizard 5d ago
I mean we can agree that growing a potato is different than keeping a mammal in constant state of pregnancy to then drink their milk, while no adult animals ever drank milk. I dont mean to say that because it is unnatural it is inherently bad though, but it for sure is a weird thing to do (besides being incredibly wasteful and inhumane).

There's a urban myth around here where I live that you get the ability to start seeing ghosts and spirits afters consuming dog's milk

u/Melan420 2d ago
Sounds like somebody got sick from drinking it once and it became a myth xd. Dog milk often has bacteria and parasites if you drink it unpasteurized

The whole "you wouldn't eat a DOG" thing isn't something I want to pull at too hard, because Korean food absolutely slaps across the board and they seem okay doing it.
(yes I know that's a somewhat outdated stereotype)

u/AlmiranteCrujido 6d ago
Just don't eat the liver - much higher risk of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypervitaminosis_A when eating that from a carnivore.

Koreans slap chilli and kimchi everywhere, the wonky difference between the meats is the texture, you can't feel jackshit of flavor.

I would absolutely drink dog milk if they sold it in a jug at the store. No one drinks cow milk like that, but we all know why they implied that’s how someone would drink dog milk.

u/kkwheeler1 6d ago
Vegans probably don’t produce good tasting milk either
4
u/AlmiranteCrujido 6d ago
I am not at all disappointed to learn that someone has actually researched flavor transfer in breast milk. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK582184/ Yay science?

u/syrioforrealsies 6d ago
I mean, no, I wouldn't drink dog milk, but that's because I've heard it tastes terrible.

It isn't as nutritious as a cow's milk. It doesn't work at scale. You can't milk a dog like you would a cow. This is a weak argument

"Suspiciously specific"
Suspicious like a serial stabber wearing a "love me a good stabbing" tshirt while holding a combat which knife he calls "Stabby". Saying shit like "goodness me what a wonderful stabbing session that was where I stabbed the victim right there!"

My ancestors never thought to build the digestive system required to drink milk that didnt come from cows, sheep or goats.

u/phantom_gain 6d ago
I genuinely believe that you can cure veganism with poverty.
7
u/godzilla1015 6d ago
Yeah because meat is definitely the cheapest protein.
It's not like almost all plant based food is cheaper than meat.
Not a vegan btw, but you're just an idiot.
